The breakfast ended at that point. Evelyn’s sudden and uncontrollable cough caused slight chaos and when they had made her stable, none of them talked about what the King had pointed at.
Evelyn was relieved, since she was not ready to hold a conversation concerning finding a mate or anything of such.
“Thank you so much! I would be on my way out”, she suddenly announced and stood to her feet, with her mother trailing behind her to ascertain what might have gone wrong.
“Evelyn!” Her mother called out while she kept walking farther away.
Evelyn found herself at the beautiful palace garden, and that was when she stopped walking.
She let out a huff and dug her hands into her head to take off the pressure she currently felt.
“Evelyn!” Her mother called out as she finally approached her, panting heavily and trying to catch her breath.
“Something is wrong with you! I observed this the moment you walked into the dining hall today”, her mother explained, peering piercingly into her eyes and trying to search for an answer.
Evelyn wore a frown and quickly turned to face her mother, with her fists clenched and her eyes brimming with fury.
“Out of every other person! Why did you have to choose the Lycan king?” Evelyn asked angrily as she flicked her hair and let out another huff.
Her heart was burning with the fact that she was mates to the Lycan King, and the worst was that she wasn’t ready to tell her mother.
“Is there a problem with that? You accepted this already, and that’s why you are here. What changed?” Her mother asked curiously, trying to decipher why her daughter suddenly changed in a split second.
Her mother thought of the Lycan king’s son, but that couldn’t be a reason for her sudden change because none of them were cruel and disrespectful to her.
“Tell me! What’s going on?” Her mother asked again, while Evelyn sighed deeply and turned her face away.
How was she going to tell her mother that things changed the moment she realized that she was mated to them? That was trouble and she knew it!
“This is not right! How about the secret? My secret?” Evelyn cried out as she dug her hands into her head and paced around.
“I mentioned to you that you can handle it! Just as you’ve always done. This won’t be different”, her mother chimed out almost immediately.
“This is different! He is the Lycan king! I would be killed even before you bat an eyelid”, Evelyn said, almost yelling out of her lungs.
“That’s why we must hide the secret! He would never know”, her mother argued while she sighed tiredly.
“This was a mistake! I should have never come here, nor would I have accepted this! It’s a mistake and I’m leaving today!” Evelyn said and started walking out of the garden, but her mother was quick to grab her wrist.
“You’re not going anywhere! You would stay here until the wedding is over. The king already told you that”, her mother insisted, but Evelyn pulled her hands away from her grip.
“I can’t stay here, mother! I can’t”, she said and turned to leave when she bumped into someone who almost got her rolling to the ground.
“Are you okay?” He asked with a soft voice that made Evelyn dumb for a second.

Evelyn’s mother forced a smile to her face after she walked out of the scene to leave Evelyn together with the young man.
“Hi Nathan!” Evelyn said as she smiled and tried to calm her breath that was still tensed from the heated argument she just had with her mother.
“Are you really planning to leave the palace?” Nathan said, while Evelyn sighed deeply and sat on the chair that was just beside where she stood.
She scrunched her brows as she tried to think of an answer to his question. A moment ago, she was yelling at her mother and telling her how much she wanted to leave, and now, she was numb and unable to reply to Nathan.
“Please, don’t leave…”, Nathan pleaded as he stared into Evelyn’s eyes that turned soft immediately.
“Is it because we are mates and our father is about to be married to your mum?” He asked and Evelyn gulped.
How would she tell him that there was something more than just that? That she held a secret that would get her killed in the Lycan kingdom?
“Evelyn?” Nathan called out, causing her to jerk out of her thoughts.
“I’m not leaving!” Evelyn finally said with a small smile and a little sigh of exasperation.
How could she leave when she was already drawn to all of her mates? Was it that easily to leave the mate bond? Was she going to survive if she did that?
These were questions that swirled around her heart, and she knew the simple answer to it all; No.
“The king wants you to be protected here all through the wedding. And, I would be glad to have my mate around”, Nathan said while Evelyn’s wolf jumped around her head.
Evelyn chuckled calmly after which she turned to look at Nathan who was seemingly the nicest from the quad.
“I’m sorry about last night. It must have been so embarrassing for you!” He said and looked away while Evelyn blushed in embarrassment.
“It’s fine. We are over with it now”, Evelyn said with a small smile that showcased utmost sincerity.
“Alright! I hope to have fun together with you. For now, I have to go and handle some things”, Nathan said as he waved at her and started walking out.
“Okay! I would just have a tour around the palace”, Evelyn shouted back at Nathan, who nodded his head and started walking away.
She took a deep breath and smiled calmly.
A wave of excitement flushed through her and suddenly, she was convinced that this was worth staying at the palace for; her mates…
She swirled around as she made to proceed with her tour guide, but a voice startled her, almost causing her to stumble to the ground.
“Would you want a tour guide?” A baritone voice asked Evelyn, who yelped and tried to regain her stance.
