Amber When I stepped inside the house, my nostrils immediately being attacked by the scent of the strong cinnamon. Gail must be making my favorite hot chocolate cinnamon drink. I found my bestie in the kitchen as she handed me the cup. “Here you go, babe.” “Thanks.” Gently blowing the smoke and slowly poured the liquid into my mouth. Delicious as always.  “That was rare for you to woke up easily without my help,” Gail said. “I couldn’t sleep really well last night.” “Oh! Were you thinking about the hottie soldier from last night?” “He’s an ex-solider, Gail.” “It doesn’t matter.” I chuckled, taking another sip.  “Speaking of him, I met him while I was taking a break at the park.” “Really?” “Yeah. He was playing with his dog. A Pitbull.” “Ah, your favorite. And then what happened?” “Nothing. We were just talking until he ran away.” “Ran away?” “He looked…panic when he was around me.” “Maybe because of your atmosphere. That old guy must be interested in you.” I laughed. “Old? That’s kind of rude, you know?” “I heard from Shane he was at the same age as him; thirty-six.” “That’s just six years difference from us.” “He is still older than us.” “Okay. Anyway, I’m not interested too no matter how hot he is.” “That’s what you said about guys.” I did. Because I was indeed uninterested in any of them. Call me weird, whatever, I don’t care.  “It seems my feeling toward the opposite s*x has died a long time ago.” “Amber…” Blinking my eyes to her, facing her gray irises. Damn it.  “Sorry about that.” I took another sip until I felt Gail touching my shoulder.  Smiling in an assuring way, she stated, “Your heart is never dead, Amber. You deserve everything you want.” I could only smile. “Thank you, Gail.” And she left. My heart was never dead. I deserved everything I wanted. The thing was…whenever I wanted something, it ended up in a bad way. The easiest thing so I won’t get hurt anymore was by shutting down my heart. I was not a fool to repeat everything I had faced before. The damage had been done. No one could repair it. No one. Becker Shaw. Wait a second. Why the hell I had to think about him? And why it had to be Becker to be the first one in my mind? I must have gotten weird around him. Not just him. “I will be staying with Dom tonight,” Gail said while walking back to the kitchen. “That’s your house, Gail.” “Are you kicking me out?” she joked and I laughed. Turning around, facing my best friend. “I’m sure Dom is lonely without you around. Why don’t you spend more time with him? I’m okay here by myself.” “So you can bring home a guy here?” What did that even mean? I kept looking at her until I asked, “When was the last time I brought a man into our house?” Her cheeks slightly bloomed. Ah, Gail liked it when I said this house was her house too. Because it was. We purchased this house together and we paid the monthly installment together. It would be cruel if I considered this house as mine just because Gail had moved out with her boyfriend. Although this house was under my name.  “Never.” That’s right. A solid never. Whenever I wanted to get laid, I would do it in the hotel or their house and left in the morning. It was just like that. A fling. One night. One time. Period. “I have to go to work now. What will you be doing until your shift?” “Maybe sleeping until evening.” And she laughed. “You need to pick someone today, Amber. How funny.” Oh, right. “And by the way, your phone kept ringing while you were out running; Cassius.” “Oh. What did he want?” “I didn’t pick it up. I don’t want to talk with him. I know it’s none of my business but I never like that guy. Ever since our high school year.” “I know, Gail.” “He’s a total asshole.” He was. Cassius constantly bothering my ass since we were a kid. Just because our parents were friends. But that didn’t mean their children could be a friend to one another. Well, Cassius never forced himself too much and he was a great companion to talk with. That’s it. “I’ll be going now. See you later, babe!” Gail parted again and headed to me. Landing a kiss on my cheek as she headed to the door.  Okay. I looked at the clock and it was still 08.30. I could sleep for an hour and picked up Julian. I hoped he had a great day in Greece. With that decision, I went to my bedroom. Immediately throwing my body to the mattress without bothering to change my clothes first.  Weirdly enough, those gorgeous teal-colored eyes showed up first before I was sent to my dream world. *** Becker “You have met Amber?” Tiffany asked. Ah, she knew her too.  “I have. Why you ask?” “Sometimes she came to play with the dogs. She loved them.” One point to her; she was definitely a good person if dogs loved her. Although I was seriously hoping we won’t meet while I was on my shift.  My eyes went to Zeus playing with the other dogs. With the gorgeous white Siberian Husky. Was she a female?  Tiffany broke my mind when she informed him about, “Amber is single,” that.  Looking at her in confusion, “Why you told me that?” “Just want to let you know.” I scoffed. Well, at least I knew she was free as a bird. Although Amber had made it clear that she didn’t do a relationship. Meaning I won't be facing any drama. It's not like I would do that. And Gail told me Amber was not into commitment. Catapulting me back to what Gail said last night and how sadness was written all over her face about her friend. I’m hoping someone will change my best friend. Did she get herself heartbroken by someone? That was the most logical reason I could get.  I spent the rest of my day working with dogs after dogs. I groomed them. Taking them for a walk. Playing with them. Tiffany looked happy having me around. Yeah, because I was the money magnet. Particularly, to women. I didn’t want to be arrogant, although my level of arrogance had passed the maximum level. But I knew how attractive I was to the ladies. Only the soldier ladies from the base who was immune to me. Well, some of them.  Sometimes I f**k when I needed a laid. Hold it, I never touched any of them back at base. They were off-limits.  And those gorgeous dark emerald orbs appeared. Oh, f*****g Christ! I had my resolution.  I definitely needed a laid. To f**k Amber out of my goddamn system.  This was completely unacceptable.  I didn’t even know who she was yet her presence had been engraved into my mind.  I wanted her. Just by imagining her sexy lips wrapped around my c**k. Her cry in pleasure when I devoured her p***y. And her whimper when I had my d**k inside of her.  I never wanted a woman badly as I wanted Amber. Or maybe instead of a random laid, I had to f**k her. To get her out of my mind. She said it herself. She didn’t do commitment so she must be experienced with a lot of guys. I was the same. None of us would hurt each other after we f****d. I had to make sure of that first because I had this experience before where the lady wanted to be more while I didn’t. Resulting in me had to break her heart until she gave up. Heartless, I know. But it needed to be done so I could focus on my life. I had told her but she stubbornly didn’t want to listen. Or maybe she was deaf. Don’t blame me with her own stupidity for falling in love with me. When my shift was over, I looked around to find. Zeus. Where the hell was he? “Where’s Zeus?” I asked Tiffany. “I think he’s still in the garden. It seems he has a crush on Shiro.” “Shiro? Oh, the white husky. I think he is.” “Your boy is in love, Becks,” she teasingly said. “Maybe his owner will be soon.” “Very funny, Tiff. Well, see you tomorrow then.” Parting ways with her, I went to fetch up my boy. As I reached the garden, I saw Zeus and he was not alone. Someone was playing with him. Someone…I soon recognized who that was. s**t. Without any worry, I approached them. “Zeus,” I called and Amber immediately turned to me. “Hi there.” “Hi. Why the hell are you everywhere?” “You are too. I was just passing by and Zeus called me.” Obviously.  I looked at the plastic bag next to her. “Shopping?” “Just some stock at home.” She patted Zeus. “See you around, Zeus.” And she stood up. “Go back to your daddy or he’s going to murder me for kidnapping attempt,” she joked. I laughed and whistled for him to come to me. Zeus did immediately. “He’s very smart.” “You should look who owns him.” She cracked. “I can guess with how cocky you are. Did you just get back from work?” “I just finished,” I replied and she blinked her emerald orbs. “I work here.” “Oh…” “Well, I just start today. I don’t want to waste my time being unemployed and Tiffany was kind enough to let me work here. I’m her money magnet.” And she laughed again. Oh, I loved her laugh. That was cute.  “I’m sure with you around, more women would come to leave their dogs to you. And your delivery service won’t be used.” “Or being put into good use.” “You are funny. I never thought though.” “Well, what do you think of me?” “I thought you were more a serious type of person because of how you apologized to me when I fell on the road.” “There’s more for you to see.” And her face became plain. What the f**k did I just say to her? Stupid Becker.  “I have to go now,” she said, avoiding the subject. She grabbed her plastic bag and went past me. Her perfume entered my nostrils. Bewitched completely. f**k, she smelled so good! That perfume screamed take me to bed. Motherfucker.
