Prologue
Amber
~Twenty-one years ago~
Sometimes I wished that I was never born.
If I could turn back the time.
If I could convince my mother from the womb, I would ask her to just kill me already. I won’t be sad and haunted her. I would be grateful.
“You are so beautiful, Amby,” the older man said. I cursed my beauty as well. I wished I would born ugly and unattractive to anyone.
All because of my face.
All because of my mother.
Why she had to have me when she didn’t really want me?
Why she had to keep me when she could have anyone she wanted without me as her extra luggage?
I heard another bump as my body slightly jumped. “Ah, your mother is having fun with my mate now.” She was. Always. And would always having fun with men. Not just a man, but men. She loved this world, she introduced it to me as well. If you think I liked it, no, I hated it. I hated this man. The second my mother came home bringing these two men, I knew what would happen to me. Mom never liked it if I ran to my room and locked the door. I would get scolded and she would slap my face. Punishment for disobeying her.
I’m being a good mother here for you so I have to share.
I didn’t need to go to school to know that a kid like me was not allowed to have this kind of experience before I reached eighteen. The world had changed.
The man pressed himself closer to me. I could feel something funny around his crotch. No. I didn’t want this. No matter mom allowed me. No matter mom allowed this man. I didn’t want this!
He was about to grab my chest. “No!” I screamed and ran away. Immediately went straight to my mother’s bedroom, finding the man’s friend was on top of her. Both eyes were on me.
“Oh, my f*****g God! What the f**k are you doing, you stupid girl?! Don’t f*****g disturb us! I was just about to come!” mom yelled and scolded me.
Why did all this have to happen to me?
Why I was here?
I felt the man came behind me while grabbing my shoulders. “You better satisfy him, brat. If you don’t, you won’t be having any dinner until tomorrow morning,” she threatened.
I couldn’t feel anything anymore. Letting the man guided me back to my bedroom. “You don’t want to get starve, do you?” he whispered. “Don’t worry. Even though you are so pretty, I won’t f**k you now. But remember, when the time comes, I will f*****g do it.” He kissed my cheek. Feeling the burning sensation on my skin as I was being pulled back to reality.
“No!” I screamed while pushing him away.
“You little slut!” He grabbed my wrist, pulling me in his direction. Heading to the bathroom. “You need to be taught a lesson.” I saw the tub was full of water. Did mom use it before me?
And without warning, he pressed my head into the water. My face was covered with cold water. I couldn’t push my head up with this man’s stronger hand. He was stronger. Bigger. I couldn’t do anything. Some water entered my lungs and he pulled my head harshly. Feeling my hair would be ripped away from my head. “Will you listen to me now, little girl?”
“N—No! I won’t—” And he pushed me back to the water again.
Would I die like this? I hoped I did. Because if this was how my life was going to be, I chose death instead.
Please, God. Please…take my life.
Not until I was being pulled up again only to be thrown and my back hit the edge of the sink. “Motherfucker!” The pain kicked in as the man immediately ran out in panic, leaving me alone. What just happened?
My body was trembling with the coldness. Not just from the water, but fear. And then the man returned, I immediately covered my head, refused to see him. Only that I was being wrapped with something warm. “Are you okay?” the voice soothingly asked me. Slowly opening my eyes, seeing a man with a black hat. “You are going to be all right, okay? Your neighbors called the police and said you’re in a danger,” the kind policeman said.
“M—Mom? Where is—” Before I could ask, my eyes rolled to the back, and fell into the kind’s man hold.
“Amber? Amber!” he desperately calling for me.
“Mommy…”
While I was calling my mommy before the darkness surrounded me completely.

Becker
~Nineteen years ago~
“You’re not going to change your mind?” dad asked. I think that would be a billion times he had asked me that question ever since I decided to join the military.
My father was not in the military before. He was just a regular office guy, working his ass off to feed me. “I won’t dad. Don’t worry about me, I’ll be fine.” He smiled. Half proud and half sad. Well, he couldn’t help it because I had no idea when I would be back. All depended on the task I would be given later and it was not like I wanted to go home as soon as possible. I didn’t go just to come back soon.
“Darling, Becker will be okay.” There she was. My lovely stepmother. Appeared behind my father, wearing her favorite red and white checkerboard apron. “Your father is so going to miss you, Becker. The house will feel so empty without you around.” Her lovely green eyes were on me. She thought she could fool me. She could deceive my father for all she liked but she could never fool me. All I did was seeing everything behind that fake motherly-like smile.
“I know he will,” I flatly said and turned my attention back to him. “I have to go now.” We hugged each other.
“I’m so proud of you, son. It doesn’t matter what happened between us in the past.”
“Dad, stop.” My old man was smaller than me. With me already six foot four tall, my father could easily be hidden from everyone. “The past doesn’t matter anymore. You are here now.” He nodded his head in agreement. I let go of him and tapped his shoulder as I grabbed my bag. “I’ll see you again soon, Dad.” And I turned to Gianna. “And you as well, mother.”
“Good luck, Becker.” I knew she was about to approach me but I turned around and headed to the door, leaving my poor stepmother hurt by my action. Whatever, I didn’t care.
I headed to the awaiting car in front and deposited myself inside the truck. “Hey, buddy. Have you parted properly with them?” Shane asked.
“I did with my old man.”
“Ah, poor Gianna got dumped.”
“Drop it, Shane.” He punched his truck away from my home.
As the truck went off, I looked at the side mirror, seeing Gianna came out, and kept looking at Shane’s truck. “Son of a b***h…”
“What? You said something?”
“Nothing.”
The sky was blue. The sun was shining brightly. Almost like the weather and the nature approved of my decision to join the military.
And I would never regret it.
As long I could get out of that house. And away from that woman because the last thing I wanted…
...was me destroying my family.
