Chapter Nine

1038 Words
"Oh my god. This isn't happening…" Brenny muttered in complete disbelief. His pair of brown eyes were still locked on the small child hugging Eve. He wasn't surprised, but he was on the verge of losing his mind. “Brother, could you give us a moment to talk? Take Yssa with you,” Eve had no choice but to talk to her manager about her daughter. It doesn't matter what happens next. What mattered to her now was to explain everything and flee away. Because she meant everything to her daughter. "I don't have much to ask, Eva. You already knew what I wanted to hear from you. I believe you- " “I was nineteen when I gave birth to Yssa. It was also the time I entered the fashion industry.” She cut him off. She had no reason to lie anymore, she was caught and out of excuses. "That was four years ago. You are good at keeping secrets. I never knew you already had a little superstar with you. We've been working together for almost three years now, Eva. Why did you not tell me about this? You don't believe-” “My brother, he's the only one who knew of her existence, Brenny. It was hard for me. I felt guilty for hiding my daughter. And I'm not sorry for hiding her from everyone, she's my everything." She replied, her expression bright as her gaze was fixed on the floor. Not even on a single occasion did she regret keeping her daughter away from anything that would harm her. "I see. As selfish as it sounds, I don't know your whole story. Can I ask you one more question?" Her head nodded slowly. She wanted to end the conversation as soon as possible. "Does her father even know she existed?" Brenny's voice trailed off. Although she expected his question, she couldn't help but be speechless. Her brother Evan had never asked that question before. He remained silent and supported her decision despite wanting to know who Yssa's father was. "No. I can't find any reason why I should." "Okay, that explains it all. What do you want me to do?" She quickly raised her head. She wanted to throw herself around her manager for being a good friend. She just wanted one more thing. She knew it wouldn't be that easy. But she'll try anyway. “I wanted to leave everything here, away from this town and everyone." There was hope in her eyes, but sadness in his. The truth was, he expected her to say that he just wasn't good at anticipating things. Eva was like a sister to him. “It was the most difficult request, but I have a feeling it would also be the last." "I had to; my decision is now final. I cannot bear to part with my daughter this time." "I thought I was bringing good news before, but it looks like it's going to be bad news now." The reason I came here early was to inform you that SCG has chosen you as the new face of their brand. I don't think that would help,” he sighed deeply. Not only will Eve's career collapse, but so will his. He worked hard for it, but when he saw the tiredness in her eyes, he wanted to sacrifice. “I'll try to talk to Mr. Heather about it. Thank you for the eternal support and patience you have given me, Brenny." “Don't thank me yet, I'm not sure how easy it is to get rid of your images in the fashion industry. But I will try my best and take care of myself. I hope that one day I will be able to get to you again, when all is well." Eve went to hug him. Minutes passed and both were emotional. “But thanks for everything anyway. I will visit you after this matter is settled. I'll miss you." Not long after, Eve finds herself waving goodbye to Brenny, who has just entered the elevator. She then closed the door only to see her daughter waiting for her. Her pair of emerald eyes looked confused as she looked into her mother's face. "Mom, are you crying?" The little girl spread her tiny arms and hugged her. She just felt better. "No baby. I miss you so much. I'm glad you came to visit me here. Did you have a good time with your dad, Evan?" Yssa nodded her head as they walked into the living room where her brother was reading a catalog. He was the one who wanted his niece to address him as her father because he didn't want the little girl to be confused about who her father was. Her daughter grew up without knowing the truth. She was smart and obedient at such a young age. “Mom was just on her way to see me. She informed me last night to visit before she went home." Evan started after Yssa fell asleep in her arms. She was snoring softly. Black and curly hair covered her small face which Eve tried to fix. But she stopped after hearing him talk about their mother. "I'm sorry. I didn't pay much attention to the consequences. I wanted to take a vacation last time, but my plan was really messed up." She now understands why her brother suddenly appeared. Her family didn't know about her daughter yet. And she wasn't ready. “You can't just abandon your career so easily, sister. Everyone will be looking for you, especially mom and dad. They will definitely come here and-” “I need to stay away from this place, Brother. Yssa is no longer safe here. I've met him twice this month and I couldn't take another chance to see him again." She muttered bluntly. With that, he fell silent and fell into deep thought. It was the first time she had spoken about the matter of her daughter's father, but Evan could easily understand what she meant. . "Hmm. Now that you mention it, I'm going to start gathering some information on this moron." He spoke with a determination that masked Eve's expression.
