Chapter Five

1155 Words
("Where the hell are you now, Eva? Didn't we have an agreement that you can't be late?") Her manager's voice echoed in all corners of the elevator Eve was in. She was on her way to her unpredictable plan... Pretending to be Damien's girlfriend and meeting his desperate grandmother. It wasn't as hard as she thought, it was just one night, and all her worries would be gone tomorrow. They just have to stick to the plan and act according to its instructions. "I know. You're going to hate me for this, but something happened Bre-" ("Don't waste this opportunity with your excuses, Eva. It's for you, for your career!") His voice hardened. Eve could tell he was very disappointed and she understood. However, if she doesn't show up in front of Damien, all her hard work will be ruined as well. Not only with her career, but she may also discover the existence of her daughter. She couldn't let that happen. ("I'm very disappointed, Eva. I hope you know that. But I need to hear what your excuses were, make sure it's reasonable, or I don't know what to do with you anymore.") Brenny added as silence fell over the line. One thing she liked about him was his thoughtfulness despite many circumstances. His temper can easily explode, but he never ignores her side. “I don't have much time to talk, but this is all about Damien Heather. Please be patient for once. I'll make it up to you after this." she mumbled. Eve didn't have many minutes left and ended the call as the elevator doors opened. She adjusted her hair and scarf as she cleared her vision to look for the car Damien was talking about. It was ten minutes before she got his message. Luckily, her search didn't take long as she spotted a black colored car coming her way. “You look stunning tonight, Miss Darlington." Eve's head instinctively turned right after settling inside when she heard a familiar voice beside her. She was surprised to see him sitting pretty as he stared at her. She had no voice to answer him because her brain was in awe. “You-you…what are you doing here? You said—” She stuttered; her eyes were glued to his. Now she understood why he was in first place among all the women who saw him. Because he really did look otherworldly handsome. "I changed my mind," he replied. He kept looking at every inch of her. She, on the other hand, was impressed. Her mind stopped working; she was too speechless to look at him. The mysterious and calm Damien Heather. “Should I start calling you baby? Or darling?" Damien murmured in a playful tone. He was definitely enjoying it. Especially when Eve's expression was priceless. She couldn't believe how it went from stone cold to pleasant. "That's too much and-" “It suits you." Damien crossed his legs comfortably. He wanted to see Eve's cheeks turn red. However, she quickly looked away before he could. He laughed as he saw her turn away from him. It just means she was scared or maybe too shy. "What makes you think like that? You don't know me, and shouldn't we discuss how we're going to behave in front of your grandmother?" She was relieved to finally think of something to talk about. She feels embarrassed to see him staring at her. Mostly when he raised his kissable lips when he smirked. “Oh, I know you, darling. You have no idea,” she knew he meant otherwise. Eve, however, began to pound like a drum after hearing his words. Her thoughts immediately went to her daughter and there was fear. She was scared because her mind started overthinking everything. “You promised not to bother me again after this act was over. Don't take your words back Mr. Heather." She replied, gritting her teeth. Her admiration for him went unnoticed. The one thing on her mind was to stay away from Damien after the night was over. "Promises, promises," he murmured. That gave her some relief, but not anymore as his expression grew serious. "I wonder if we've met before, your scent and expressions were somehow familiar-" "No, we don't. T-that's impossible, this is the first time I've spoken to you. I didn't even know you existed." Eva wished to get out of the car, but the fact that it was moving, and she had to finish that night was in the back of her mind. "Just calm down, okay? He was just crazy." She muttered to herself as she pulled herself together. Being with Damien Heather wasn't as easy as she thought. This also gave her the courage not to cross her path into his again. No matter what. " Is it so? Then it was," Damien looked away from her and at that moment Eva's phone rang. His peripheral vision picked up on her hesitation as she stared at her phone. He didn't want to meddle in her affairs, but his mind kept thinking about who was calling. "You can pick up the phone, don't be shy. I won't say anything,” after hearing him speak, she pressed the display and answered Liam's call. It was bad timing; she knew the man would just ask her where she was. And she doesn't want to explain herself and lie about when she was with someone. "H-Hello Li? How can I help you?" Eve's expression was unreadable. She feels very embarrassed knowing that Damien listened in on her conversation with her ex-boyfriend. ("Where are you, Eve? I spoke to your manager earlier, but he said you can't make it tonight. Did something happen? I need to know you're okay,") "It was a man," his mind interrupted Damien's thoughts as he distracted himself from hearing their conversation. Part of him wanted to destroy her phone so she could stop talking to him. But he remained quiet and calm, still in control. "W-well, I'm fine. Don't worry. I had something very important to take care of so I couldn't make it." Eve bit her bottom lip; she saw Damien's lips turn up. He really listened to her every word. ("I see. I can't make you tell me what's going on. I know very well when you say it's important, but take care of yourself. I hope to see you again, maybe on a coffee date, when you have time?”) Even if Damien's mood was even a moment ago, he didn't know how his fist clenched as his expression darkened. In the back of his mind, he didn't really care. But the more he denies it, the crazier he gets. “We're here, love. You should end the call now.” His words came out smoothly. But he managed to introduce himself calmly while Eve was glued to her seat next to him.
