Chapter Six

“Raised your lips, woman. You wouldn’t want us to be caught, don’t you?” Damien whispered through Eve’s ears when they were about to get inside. She was still in the mind of pulling herself after what he had said earlier. It was unfair, how easily he got her speechless over nonsense things without trying hard. And there was Liam who had heard of him, another problem for Eve to solve afterwards. “Is that all I needed to do?” she replied, raising her cherry lips. There were maids lining up as they entered the entrance. She hadn’t fully taken a clearer glance at the place since her eyes were fixed on the guards and maidservants who bowed and greeted them. For the third time, she felt awkward. Especially when everyone is staring at her. It was suffocating and strange. She shouldn’t be, since her life has been on the run of avoiding paparazzi. However, being with Damien Heather made a huge difference. “For now, but I need you to do something later. Just go with the flow. As long as you don’t fake your smile and eyes. She won’t notice it,” Eve could feel his warm breath touching her nape and it gave her a tingling feeling. Fortunately, she was back in herself and had calmed down. “Damien, Hijo. You made it tonight. I’m so glad-is this the woman you were talking about? Oh my, what a beauty.” They hadn’t fully reached the living room yet when his grandmother appeared. The old woman looked very pleasant as she gazed at both her and Damien. Her warm aura and smile made Eve comfortable. She thought of her to be the same as him, short-tempered and frigid. “Good evening, grandma. Of course, I wouldn't say no to taking this chance, especially when I’m with my girlfriend. This is Eve,” he spoke gently, which surprised Eve. She, on the other hand, smiled sincerely and bowed her head. Although she was comfortable with her, she still cannot use her voice. “Eve. What a beautiful name. How are you doing, Hija? Welcome home,” “Good evening, ma’am. Thank you, I feel great. I hope you feel the same too,” her voice went as gentle as she could. Damien’s grandmother held her hand and gestured to them to walk with her, which they did afterwards. Eve’s eyes were still adjusting to the chandelier's light above. She was careful and alerted to what would be the next movement of the man next to him. He seemed like he had fallen into deep thinking as they walked to the dining room. “Even your voice was soft, Eve. You should call me your grandma starting now. You will be my grandson’s wife soon.” They both chuckled after hearing her. Damien smiled at his grandmother to cover up their reactions. “I think we need to eat our dinner first, grandma. Those matters were too early to talk about, and my girlfriend here wanted to know you more as you want to know her.” He stole her attention and winked at Eve, who did nothing but smile like what he had said earlier. His grandmother laughed. It was visible to her face how happy she was. And Eve’s conscience was getting in her head, she felt bad for lying. She could see how she wanted her grandson to have someone to take care of him. Her soft heart was starting to get carried. “Please, have a seat, love. Dinner will be served now,” Damien got her attention. He had noticed how her expression softened. “T-thanks…” She replied and sat next to his seat. Their eyes locked as if it happened naturally, no acting and pretending. And this scenario was witnessed by his grandma. “I hate to disturb you both, but dinner is ready. We should eat first before that,” right then they acted like it never happened. Back to their own selves and minds. “Try this, my dear Eve. It is one of my favorites, it has a savoring taste.” Eve widened her smile. But her nostrils were busy smelling the shrimp’s smell. She was definitely right that the dish had contained shrimp. And she was allergic to it, however, as she looked at the old woman’s brightened expression which made her forget about the consequences later. “This is…is delicious g-grandma. Thank you for sharing one of your favorites.” She muttered after swallowing one spoon of the dishes. Her eyes once again met Damien, who was looking at her. She’d wish he hadn’t seen how her expression changed furtively. “I’m glad you like it; we will surely get along in the future. I’ll teach you this recipe when you do have time. What do you think?” Her lips parted. She was out of words, luckily, Damien held her hand and smiled at her. It was surprising, but it did help her cope. “We’ll think about it, grandma. It is still a long journey for us. If you did not know. My girlfriend has a busy schedule. She was a model. I forgot to mention it last time.” He intertwined their fingers below the table. If Eve’s body hadn’t started to get numb, surely, she would fully have felt the tingling sensation her body had reacted to. “Well, my time is not getting any longer anymore, Hijo. As much as I wanted to spend time with you and Eve. So, I could leave this world without worrying that you will be alone. I do hope that I can still see your children one day.” The senior’s voice went weary. This time, Damien lost his words. He did not like how his grandmother sounded, because he never thought of losing her. She was the only family he had; his grandma had been his parents. She was everything to him. “Well, I’m sure I could make time for you to teach me your recipe, ma’am. I mean, grandma. Right, honey?” Eve pressed his hands and took him back to his reality. He did not expect her to say those words, but they felt good for him. Damien saw her eyes go watery, and those were the sincerest eyes he had ever seen but at the same time familiar.
