Chapter 5

1557 Words
Brian Brian had to escort Vanessa to the mall for shopping. She had insisted he go with her, since they no longer spent quality time together. They arrived at the best mall in the city and Vanessa was all over Brian the whole time. “Isn't it beautiful?” Vanessa asked in admiration. She had opted for a wedding fitting. Vanessa was getting tired of waiting for Brian to propose to her already. Now that Mia was out of the way, what was stopping him now? It's been two weeks since she moved out of the apartment and signed the divorce papers. Brian squinted his eyes at her and a low scowl appeared on his face. “I love this dress so much. What do you think, Brian?” He said nothing and fetched his phone from his pocket. It was buzzing the whole time. He connected the call and said with a frown on his face, “Jeremy.” “Hello, sir,” Jeremy said in a way of greeting. “Any lead on her whereabouts?” Brian asked out of the blue. Jeremy was startled by his boss's question. He wasn't expecting that. Now he needs to come up with something good. Otherwise, he'd be in trouble. “Still working on that, sir.” Jeremy gulped down his saliva nervously. “The thing is, the Blake Empire is having a launch of their latest fashion brand and Mia Thompson will likely be at the party. This is your chance to get to meet her, sir.” “Right, I forgot about that,” Brian rubbed the back of his head. “But still, keep searching for Mia and I wonder why she has no last name. Grandpa just keeps making things difficult,” he sighed and glanced at Vanessa. “Do you love her,” Vanessa asked with a scowl on her face. “This is not the place for this, Vanessa.” “Where is?” Vanessa snapped, her fist clenched. “It has been two weeks since she left and all you can do is search the entire country for her. Aren't I enough? For goodness sake, you're divorced already.” She stomped her feet against the ground. Brian's face hardened at those words, he shot her a cold glare with disdain evident in his eyes. “Don't you dare,” he hesitated before saying anything, "Don't?” Vanessa was stunned by his actions and took a step back. Brian stormed out of the mall without sparing her a glance. “Brian.” Vanessa stomped her feet against the ground with gritted teeth and a clenched fist. She needs to do something as soon as possible. Brian is slipping away from her hands and Mia is to blame for this. ** Brian arrives at his grandfather's mansion in the countryside. He alighted from his SUV and paced the mansion with an angry expression on his face. “Miss Vee, where is Grandpa?” He asked the housekeeper. “Welcome young master, in his study,” the housekeeper bowed slightly. Brian opened the door to his grandfather's study. He stood still with a hardened expression on his face. Mr. Wade took a glance at his grandson and adjusted his glasses, he leaned his hands on his desk with his fingers interlocked. “And who do I owe this visit,” he said with no trace of a smile on his face. He knew Brian was here for just one thing and that was to whine. He would never come to the mansion for something important or to check up on his grandfather. “Where is she?” Brian asked. “Where is who?” “Mia, where are you hiding her? And what the hell is her last name?” Mr. Wade scoffed and leaned backward on his chair, “I thought you never loved her? So why are you looking for her everywhere and besides, how am I supposed to know?” “You brought her to the mansion. You asked me to marry her, so you should know better,” Brian snapped. “And you didn't hesitate to throw her out after you got the company,” Mr. Wade narrowed his brow at his grandson. “Now listen up boy, I never handed over the company to you to lose focus. You brought this upon yourself and now, you're out there searching everywhere for her when the company is collapsing.” Brian cleared his throat and took a step back. “I-I,” he stammered. “I thought as much,” Mr. Wade scoffed, “Don’t ever ask me such questions again. And I'm giving you three days to pull through with the proposal else,” he adjusted his suit and looked away. Brian nodded and stormed out of the mansion. When he was out, he groaned in frustration. **** When Mia first came into the family, they all thought she was some dirtbag Mr. Wade had adopted and treated her like trash. Mr. Wade sighed in his home office as he went through memory lane of what his family had done to Mia if only they knew who she was. The intercom on his office desk buzzed, and he pressed the button on it. “Hello, Grandpa.” “Mia, how are you, my dear?” The frown on his face disappeared at the sound of her voice. “Shaw Group has struck a deal with Blake Empire, we'll be launching our brand design soon, and I want you to be at the event. I owe you a toast.” “Alright my child, I'll be there,” Mr. Wade smiled and hung up. He had always loved Mia and nothing could change that fact if only Brian had been able to see the difference between the two women and never treated her poorly. While one was a gold digger, one loved him for who he was. ** The next day, Brian had his assistant book an appointment with Blake Empire. He had his proposal in one hand and his phone in the other. He palmed his hair neatly in the car and looked at his appearance in the mirror. Tristan Blake had scheduled the meeting in one of the most luxurious restaurants in town. Brian made sure to come on time, he slid out of the car and straightened his suit. He made his way into the restaurant and straight to the VIP section. Jeremy handed him the documents. “Thank you,” he said and flipped through it for the last time. Jeremy froze for a while and Brian frowned at him. He turned his back to have a glimpse of what Jeremy was focused on. “Mia,” Brain's voice was barely above a whisper. Anger flushed through him when he saw the appearance of the man beside her. They were holding hands and giggling. He stood up from his seat and stormed to her table angrily. “Mia,” he screamed. Everyone jolted at the sudden sound and soon, a frown appeared on their faces. Mia ignored him like he didn't exist in the first place. She turned to Victor and flashed a warm smile. Brian could feel anger fuming inside of him. Isn't he the same man who came for her the day she left his mansion? “Is this it? You couldn't even wait for a while before publicly disgracing me,” he snapped. “Let's go.” He grabbed her hands and tried to shove her out of the restaurant. “Let go of me,” Mia glared at him with disdain. Victor blocked his hand and sneered at him, “She doesn't want to go with you.” “Piss off,” Brian snapped at Victor and turned to Mia. “Let's go.” Mia hit him with her purse and released his grip on her, “Don't you dare come close to me ever again. The next time you try such a thing, I'll get you arrested for harassment.” Brian was taken aback by her sudden confidence. Mia had always been obedient, but the Mia right in front of him seemed different and fearless. “Come on, Victor, let's get out of here. I have lost my appetite already.” “But, what about lunch with Tris...?” Victor didn't get to complete his statement before Mia cut in. “Let's go home,” Mia said and shot daggers at Brian before leaving. Home? His eyes widened in shock. Did she just say home? She moved in with the man already? Brian stomped his feet against the ground in fury and turned his back to follow her, but Jeremy interrupted. “S-Sir, the meeting,” he stuttered. Brian clenched his fist in anger and let out a low growl, he straightened his suit and went back to his table. Tristan and his secretary majestically walked in, tugged in a black tuxedo. His neatly curled hair and black sunglasses had a shimmering effect on his beautiful features. He looked around and wondered where Mia and Victor were. He had invited them over for lunch to talk about the launch of their new brand and a possible business prospect with Brian's company, the Wade's Group. “Mister Tristan,” Brian interrupted his thoughts.
