Chapter 4

Back at Brian's mansion, Vanessa was seated on the sofa while Brian tried to bring the puzzle together. He was still confused about the gift. He wondered where Mia had gone since the divorce. He turned his back and his eyes met with Vanessa, who couldn't even remember his birthday. “It's getting boring around here, Brian. Let's go out,” Vanessa stood up from the sofa and walked slowly towards Brian. Brian adjusted on his home office seat and glared at her in disdain. His cell phone rang, and he picked it up almost immediately. Since Mia left the house with those men, he felt disconnected from Vanessa. “Sir,” Jeremy said at first, “We couldn't find Miss Mia.” “Are you that useless, Jeremy?” Brian snapped in frustration. “Find Mia and bring her to me,” he slammed his fist against his desk. Vanessa frowned and narrowed her brows at Brian. “Why do you need her when I'm here? What am I to you, Brian?” Brian shot Vanessa a cold glare. Brian roared on the phone, “I want her here before midnight. Search the entire country if you have to.” Jeremy gulped down his saliva nervously, he didn't know where to start looking. “B-But, sir,” he stammered, trembling at the other end of the line. “The Investment.” “What investment, Jeremy,” his cold voice rang through the phone. “The proposal, sir. It got rejected.” “What do you mean by that?” Brian frowned. “What the hell is going on? We made a good proposal. Who got the deal, Jeremy?” “T-TY corporation,” Jeremy stammered, his voice shaking. “Wait, what? I thought they were on the brink of bankruptcy. How is that possible?” “The company's new CEO came onboard a few days back and according to the news, she revived the company,” Jeremy didn't get to finish his statement when Brian cut in. “She? What do you mean she?” “According to the news, Mia Thompson is back, sir,” his assistant replied. “Wait, what? The mysterious Mia Thompson, the same owner of Shaw Group who went missing two years back?” Brian's eyes widened in shock at the revelation. Now this is trouble. According to the rumors, Mia Thompson is a formidable force when it comes to business. Although she never appears in public places, she made headlines on the news and now, she is back. ** Mia made drastic changes in the company. She made a list of top executives to be rotted out of the company and walked into Michael's office with the list in her hand. She tossed the piece of paper on his desk and flashed him a mischievous smirk. “What is this?” Michael asked, with a furrowed brow. Mia only wanted to mark her territory by showing them who the boss was. She had rooted most of Michael’s trusted followers and others who undermined her authority in the company. “Rooting out the bad eggs,” she replied and swiveled her head. Michael frowned slightly, “You can't just,” Mia cut in. “I invested my money to make sure this company rose back to its feet, and you think I can't make such decisions?” She narrowed her brows at him. “My father retired and put this company in your care, leaving Victor in your hands, but what did you do? Get a courthouse along the beach side?” Michael adjusted on his seat and cleared his throat. Mia smirked and tapped on the piece of paper, “Get it over with,” she turned her back to leave. In a few minutes, Michael's office was crowded with angry employees. “Why do I have to get sacked? I didn't do anything,” one of the executives shouted. “She can't treat us this way, Michael.” Others joined in the uproar and demanded an explanation, anger evident on their faces. Michael couldn't care less as long as his position as vice-chairman was still intact. He scratched the back of his ears at the sight of the angry people around his office. Mia smirked at the scene and left the company. She dialed Victor's number and it connected immediately. “Hey, I'm on my way home. Mission accomplished,” she smirked and disconnected the call. ** Thirty minutes later, Mia arrived at the Thompson's estate. Her expression lit up at the sight of her father, who was patiently waiting by the tennis court. “Hey, Dad,” Mia curled a broad smile on her face. “How's your day going?” “You're back. Come sit with me, Mia. Heard you made some changes in the company.” Mia shrugged, “I guess news flies fast.” “It's my company, remember, besides, I'm proud of you, Mia,” Mr. Thompson gave her a thumbs up. Mia giggled, “Where's Victor?” “Oh, he should be inside with Tristan,” Mr. Thompson picked up the tennis ball. “Wait, Tristan is here?” Her eyes widened in disbelief. “Of course, he's around. If not for Tristan, Victor would have burned down your company by now. I think you owe him one.” “I didn't know that,” Mia rubbed the back of her head. “Kid is a good one, Mia. He's been courting you for years. I don't know why you didn't give the young man a chance.” “Bye…,” Mia waved and ran away from her Dad. Mr. Thompson shook his head and chuckled as he watched her leave. The moment Mia reached for the doorknob, and it opened, her eyes met with Tristan Blake. Tristan is Victor's best friend and the CEO of Blake Empire. His family is one of the most successful business owners in New York. Tristan grew up with Victor and Mia, they were practically like families. Tristan was part of the family. He courted Mia over the years, but for some reason, Mia turned him down. “Hi,” Mia twisted her lips and rubbed the back of her head. “Hello, Mia,” Tristan’s firm voice hung in the air and Mia gulped down her saliva nervously. Tension built up in the air, Mia could feel the heat in her body, her palms sweaty and eyes flickering. “Welcome back, Mia,” Tristan said in a soft tone, looking deeply into her eyes. “Thanks,” Mia gulped down her saliva. “Uhm! Heard what you did for my company, thanks.” Tristan chuckled and shook his head, “Glad you're back now.” “Me too,” she said nervously. Victor shook his head as he watched them from afar.
