Chapter 3

2220 Words
It has been two days since that ugly incident, Mia packed up her belongings and signed the divorce papers. She didn't take anything Brian had given her for the last two years, she didn't want anything that would remind her of him. She is finally ready to let go of Brian. “Take this, you'll need it,” he tossed her a credit card, “Consider it as p*****t for those years you cared for me.” Mia clenched her fist tightly and a dangerous glare danced on her face, “I don't want your money.” “Don't be ungrateful, Mia,” Vanessa smirked as she sipped from her glass of wine. “You'll surely need the money.” “I don't want your money or anything that has to do with you, Brian,” she shot him a cold glare, “Just don't ever show your face around me.” “How dare you talk to my son that way,” Mary slapped her across the face and turned to her son, “Brian, make sure she leaves with nothing.” Mia let out a cold laugh, here comes the evil mother-in-law, she sneered at Mary. For the last two years, Mary had been a thorn in her flesh. Of course, the woman was excited when Brian chose to divorce her. Mia bit her lip hard and chuckled, held the suitcase beside her, and made a phone call. “Hey sis, you're ready?” Victor asked his big sister over the phone. “Yeah, come pick me up, Victor,” Mia sighed over the phone and turned her back to leave. Who’s Victor? Brian was surprised to hear a guy's name. He furrowed his brows and stood up from the couch. He followed her from behind and when they were outside, he grabbed her hand. “Who’s Victor? Have you been cheating on me?” He frowned at her with disgust clear in his voice. “Let me go,” she snapped at him. “All these years I thought you were faithful, but you couldn't just wait a day after the divorce to call your boyfriend to come pick you up. You disgust me, Mia,” he spat out in disgust. “Let go of me,” she struggled to release her hand from his grip. Two sleek SUVs parked outside the mansion, two young gentlemen alighted from the backseat. “She said you should let go,” Victor's firm voice hung in the air. He released his grip on her and moved back. Brian felt a pang of jealousy at that very moment. “Let's go, Mia,” Victor stretched his hand towards her and took the suitcase from her. He handed it over to the other man beside him. Mia slid into the backseat of the car without sparing Brian a glance, the car drove onto the road. “Are you okay sis?” Victor glanced at her and flashed her a warm smile. “Yeah, let's just go home,” Mia sighed and leaned on his shoulder. ** Brian went into his bedroom and the sight of his favorite jewelry brands hit him. The wristwatch was placed gently on the bed with a letter beneath it. Brian moved closer and read the content. The letter reads: “Happy anniversary Brian, but again, what does it matter? And for the last time, happy birthday.” Of course, he forgot about his anniversary and his birthday. But where did Mia get such an amount of money to get him such an expensive gift? The piece of jewelry cost $500,000 and he knew that quite well. He never gave her any allowance and even when he tried to, she would always come up with a reason to reject it since she was just a stay-at-home wife, so she didn't need the allowance. “How did she get this?” He questioned himself. He put a call across to Jeremy, his assistant, and the call connected instantly. “Find out everything about Mia, something doesn't seem right.” “Alright boss,” Jeremy gave a prompt reply. Brian disconnected the call and held onto the gift Mia had left him. ** “So tell me Victor, how's the company?” Mia asked her younger brother with a broad smile on her face. “You mean your company,” Victor furrowed his brows at her. “Two years you left the company you built from scratch just to be with that scumbag.” “I had you and the shareholders. And you did amazing,” she kissed him on the cheek. “Eww!!! I'm a grown man now, don't do that.” Mia chuckled at her brother's reaction. For two years she focused on her marriage with Brian and forgot about her company, Shaw Group, a fashion and technology company she built from scratch without her father's support. She only wanted to prove her worth and not soar on Daddy's wings. Mia had left because of the danger that surrounded her at that time. Her father had willed his company, TY Corporations to her. Her adversaries grew in numbers and the fact she had her empire made it even worse. Mia fled for her life the night she was almost abducted. Thanks to Brian's grandfather, she was able to start all over again. He knew who she was the day he met her stranded on the road. He offered to help her by making her a part of his family, that way, she would have protection and when she was ready to take charge again, the Wilson family would be right behind her. They arrived at the Thompson’s mansion. When the car came to a stop, Mia sighed in distress and inhaled the fresh air outside her father's mansion. “Welcome home, Mia,” Victor pulled her in for a hug. Everyone stood still outside the mansion to welcome the mistress of Thompson's estate. Mia could remember the familiar faces and a surge of emotions ran through her body. “Welcome back,” everyone said at once and tears fell from her eyes. Mr. Thompson stepped out of the mansion and everyone stood still and bowed slightly as the billionaire made his way through. When their eyes met, Mia stammered, gazing at her father. “I-I,” she began to sob. “I miss you too, come here my little angel,” Mr. Thompson pulled her in for a hug, and they sobbed greatly, as they made their way inside the mansion. ** A week later, Mia discovered that TY corporation, located in the heart of New York City, was in trouble. The company's stock had drastically collapsed and someone needed to do something about it. She couldn't blame Victor because all these years he had done fine with both companies. The executives were gathered in the boardroom on the top floor, awaiting the arrival of the new CEO. Somehow, the company was revived, and the gossip spread fast like wildfire, that someone bought a huge stock in the company and magically saved the company from the brink of bankruptcy. The employees were lucky enough to retain their jobs, but panic surged through them. “Who's the new CEO?” The boardroom was filled with murmuring and core whispers. “Who could it be? Victor didn't say anything about this strange person. I wonder who it might be?” A man among the board members asked. “I hope it's a young man,” another said. “What if it's a girl?” Another man asked with a furrowed brow. “Oh, please, you wish Miss Thompson were back,” the man scoffed. “No one knows her whereabouts. She might even be dead.” “Or maybe the family is just trying to cover up the facts,” another cut in. “Little wonder Victor is handling the company, she might be dead.” “Then who is the new CEO?” someone asked, and the room was filled with whispers. ** Meanwhile, on the first floor, everyone waited anxiously, standing still with their eyes flickering around the entrance of the building. Who could the new boss be? What if he's ruthless? Why did Victor have to step down? The tension filled the air. “Here it is, here it is,” they whispered to themselves with their eyes fixed on the entrance as a black Rolls-Royce came to a stop. One of the senior employees walked up to the car door and opened it. A pair of black four-inch heels alighted from the car, followed by a man tugged in a black suit. She moved slowly, her exquisite makeup radiating her beauty. The familiar face struck those employees who started with the company when it was founded. “It's a woman,” all the new employees engaged in core whispers. Mia smiled, “Long time no see.” She entered the elevator with Victor by her side and the senior employee, along with some security guards. “Are the lots present?” Mia asked, sliding her cell phone. “Yes ma'am,” the man answered. “Good, let's go,” she said without sparing a glance. “Are you sure you're ready for this, Mia,” Victor asked with a worried expression on his face. “Yeah,” she flashed him a reassuring smile. Richard Thompson and three other executives sat majestically in the board meeting with their legs crossed without a care in the world. The rumors spread fast and everyone in the boardroom now knows who the new CEO is. Richard looked like he cared less, but inside of him, fear flushed through him. Mia is back. What now? “Are you sure our plan will work?” Harrison asked, his hands trembling. “Dude, relax. This is our company, we won't let her take it away from us,” Richard patted his younger brother on the back. “Father won't let that happen.” “Okay,” Harrison exhaled. They had planned on how to intimidate Mia on her arrival. Tracy walked into the office with a pale face. “What is it?” Richard asked his secretary. “Sir, the meeting is over. According to a source, the new CEO had a brief meeting in her office.” “What?” Richard stood up angrily, with a clenched fist. “How dare she disrespect us?” As Mia concluded the meeting, Richard stormed into her office with Harrison beside him, slamming the door against the wall. “M-Mia,” Harrison stuttered with his eyes widened. His body reacted on its own at Mia's appearance. Two years ago, the news circulated about the disappearance of the TY corporation heiress. There was no trace of her, but the police did record a case of abduction. Mia was attacked by some group of goons on her way home. She called for help but by the time the police arrived, she was nowhere to be found, just her car and the tracks of other vehicles. Richard stole the opportunity to tamper with her stocks. He wanted to be CEO so badly. Mia smirked at Harrison's expression, she leaned back in her seat with her fingers interlocked. “Hello, cousins,” Mia's cold voice hung in the air. Immediately, Harrison and Richard had a pretentious look on their faces. They sobbed slightly and rushed to her side trying to steal a hug. Mia was enjoying the show of pretense. The door flew open, and Michael Thompson stormed into the office. “Mia,” her uncle called out with a surprised look on his face. “Dad,” Harrison turned to his father. “It is true, Mia is bad.” “Hello, Uncle Mike,” Mia flashed him a pretentious smile. “Thank goodness you're back,” Michael rushed to her side and tried to steal a hug. Mia pushed her chair back, with disdain, a pretentious smile formed on her face, “Yeah.” Michael and his sons took a step back and glanced at each other. Mia turned to the executives, straightening her face with no warmth in it, “The TY corporation is the hard work of my parents unfortunately, one of them is no more, but now that I'm back, I'll set things straight and root out every conniving scheme,” she shot Michael and his boys a cold glare. ** Michael paced his office, thinking of ways to thwart Mia’s authority. He has worked so hard to keep the company at his feet since her disappearance, he's not going to give up just yet. “That damn girl, how did she make it?” Michael groaned in frustration. “Dad, what are we going to do now?” Richards' voice hung in the air from behind, as he made his way into his father's office. Michael turned to look at his son, he sighed in distress and slammed his office desk with his fist. “We have to make her go away permanently,” Michael exhaled, his fist clenched. “But how do we do that?” Richard asked, his tone a bit skeptical. “Leave that to me,” Michael went straight to his seat and leaned on it, interlocking his fingers.
