Jakob’s pov
Kellan was passed out when we got back from shopping so I carried him in and laid him in his playpen. We bought him some more toys, a car seat, a stroller, and a few outfits. While we were out Anna and I talk a lot about Kellan and Anna and I decided we wanted to take custody of Kellan because it was obvious that Colette didn’t know how to take care of him. I needed Hardin and Aspen’s help to get the elders to allow me to take him full time. while Kellan was napping Anna told me to go talk to them. I mind-linked Hardin and told him I needed to talk to him and Aspen and he said they would meet me in his office. When I got there the door was open and I walked in. Aspen closed the door and Hardin asked what was going on. I said Anna and I have been talking and we have decided it would be in Kellan's best interest if we take custody of him and raise him giving his mother visitation. If we don’t do this who knows if Kellan will ever be able to walk, talk and or even get the nutrition he needs to stay healthy.
Aspen said, “are you sure this is what you truly want to do Jakob?” I said yes Anna and I feel like if he is with us full time we can work on getting him on track with walking talking, potty training, and eating habits right now he can barely talk and all he can do is crawl. She has been giving him nothing but juice in his bottle and because of that he pee’s way too much and I know it can hurt his kidneys. She gives him sleeping pills for teething and I know that isn’t right either.
Aspen said, “I know doctor Morris would never give a pup sleeping pills so I wonder where she is getting them.” I said I don’t know all I know is my son needs me and it is in his best interest if Anna and I take him so we can get him where he needs to be developmentally.
Hardin said “I agree Jak. if she isn’t being a responsible mother and helping him developmentally the way a parent should then yes he is better off with you and Anna. I know Anna can handle helping you raise your pup. She has been around to help with our pups and has helped our parents with Wisteria, Acer, and Rose.”
I said she has already been a big help with Kellan and has gotten him to start eating fruits and veggies and she has gotten him to start drinking milk at night. Hardin said “let me guess milk with a drop of honey?” I nodded and he laughed and said “that is what mom used to give her when she was fussing or had a hard time sleeping and Anna even gave it to Rose and Acer after they moved here to help calm them at night.”
Aspen asked if had talked to Colette about any of this yet and I said no. she said “good because I'm sure if you do she is going to blow up and it’s going to get ugly. I would keep quiet until we can talk to the elders and get something set up with them for a custody hearing. I am going to take the pups to Amanda and then go get started on research and paperwork to send the elders.”
I hugged her and told her and Hardin thank you for doing this to help me. Hardin said “no need to thank us Jak it’s what family does.” I told him I was going to go let Anna know what was going on and get ready for dinner.
I left Hardin’s office and went back to my room when I got to the door Anna opened it and said “he is still sleeping.” She pulled me inside and pushed me against the wall and kissed me. When she pulled away I asked what that was for and she said “just because I wanted to.” she had already put away the stuff we bought for Kellan so we sat down and I told her what was going on.
Aspen’s pov
As soon as Jakob left Hardin’s office I went and got the pups and took them to Amanda and Clay’s. I went back upstairs and to my office and began looking through our online library catalog to find the books I would need to read. When I found the books I was looking for I went to the library and checked them out. I went back to my office and got to work on my research. Once I found out everything I needed to know I went to work on printing out papers for Jakob to sign and I would have elder Todd come meet with us so he could go back to the other elders and get their approval and to call a hearing for Jakob and Colette. I called Hardin into my office and told him everything I found out and what all Jakob needed to do.
He said “I will mind-link Jak to come back up so you can go over everything with him.” a few minutes later Jakob and Anna came up with Kellan and I explained the process to them and showed Jakob the papers I wrote up and printed.
Jakob said, “well I already have his birth certificate with my name on it and a DNA test that she had done.” I looked at Jakob and said we are going to get doctor Morris to do another DNA test before I have elder Todd come down just so we have current proof and so if she gets mad she can’t go back and say she never had one done. He said that was fine and Anna agreed as well. Once we were done discussing that Jakob and Anna took Kellan down for dinner and Hardin and I went to get ready for dinner.
Annalynn’s pov
When we left Aspen’s office we took Kellan down for dinner Jakob and I knew we were going to get a lot of stares and whispers but we decided to just suck it up and take Kellan to the dining hall with us instead of going out every time we have him. We didn’t want to hide Kellan from the pack but we wanted to wait to tell everyone until Kellan was used to us and was staying with us more. As we predicted as soon as we got to the dining hall the pack members who were already there started staring and whispering. Jakob put Kellan into the high chair and we sat there and waited on the food to come out. When everyone was at the table and the food came out I noticed Aspen was staring off into space. I asked her what was wrong and she shook her head.
She stood up and said, “ok enough with the whispering. Yes, there is a new pup sitting at the ranked table, and it's no one's business as to why he is up here.” the pack said “yes Luna” and Aspen sat back down.
I looked at her and she said “I could hear them whispering and it was driving me crazy.” I smiled and said thank you. We all sat there and enjoyed our dinner I was even able to get Kellan to eat broccoli and fish and Not once did I look up to see if she was watching us.
