“I will give you some time to talk.”the doctor informed us before quickly leaving us alone.
I turned to my father waiting impatiently for him to elaborate.
“The moon goddess has gifted you with the same powers your mother was fortunate to have. It’s the very reason we needed to send you away. The pack at Lock Greene would have destroyed us all if they knew your mother had given birth. They didn’t want anyone to have what they couldn’t. Amelia your powers are stronger than what we ever anticipated them to be. We need to keep you from harms way.” I listened in astonishment feeling like I’d been hit by a ton of bricks.
“So I can heal?” I processed the words carefully.
“Amelia you saw for yourself what you just managed to do. As soon as you get your wolf and first shift, you will see just how strong you are.”
“I’m scared though.” The thought of shifting sounded so horrible and painful.
“You will be fine my darling.” My father promised me and wrapped me into his arms before kissing my forehead.
“Oh my alpha you are awake. Thanks goddess you are alive.” Luna wept rushing towards us.
I decided to leave them to it and go back to the packhouse. I only had a few hours until my birthday.
I knew my father had mind linked someone to escort me and keep me under their watchful eye.
“ You don’t need to follow me. I am a big girl.” I sighed. The voice behind me chucked and jumped in front of me causing me to stop mid walking.
“What do you want? Who even are you?” I scowled at the tall guy grinning down at me. He pushed his brown hair from his face and gazed at me with a look of amusement.
“I am the son of the beta. Luke.” He held out a hand for me to shake but I politely declined.
“I just don’t feel like socialising. I’m supposed to get my wolf tomorrow and I’d like some sleep if you don’t mind.” I raised my eyebrows and gestures for him to move aside. When he didn’t, I felt myself getting mad and walked off in the opposite direction.
“Hey girl don’t go disappearing. It’s not safe.” He yelled out to me but I ignored him and kept walking until I found myself in the middle of the forest. I was so shattered I almost didn’t care that I was by now quite far out. I found a beautiful clearing with a massive tree that I could just sit for a moment and rest.
I woke and tried to stretch out my body but I felt dizzy, sick and so drained. My whole body ached from head to toe, all I could do was lie there and allow the sudden and horrible feelings to pass through me, hoping it would hurry up. I thought starting my period at twelve was painful, well that was nothing compared to this. I screamed out in agony but it was echoed right back at me. I stared up at the tall trees, trying to focus on that rather than the agony I was in.
The wind blew hard throughout the darkened forest and the trees swayed from side to side, their branches all withered and reminded me of a witches hair on halloween. The hoot of an owl pierced the night like a jagged blade and I tried to focus on the moon in the sky. It was bright, beautiful and so calming. I needed that right now.
“Amelia. My name is Ava. I am your wolf. Please do not be frightened. I will help you through this.” I couldn’t answer but just nodded.
I finally had my wolf.
A whoosh of pain shot through me again and within a few seconds it was gone. I stood myself up and noticed I was a wolf. I had just shifted. Oh my goddess. My wolf was absolutely beautiful with such soft fur and pure white colour. I let out a glee of happiness as I started to run slowly through the forest. Getting a little faster, upping my pace until I was running like a whirlwind.
I closed my eyes as I reached a small lake and took a long drink from it.
Suddenly I smelt a beautiful smell of chocolate and vanilla. It was so strong but I had no idea where it was coming from.
Then I heard the rustle of leaves and twigs breaking. Someone was near me and I panicked because I couldn't see anyone. I didn't know what direction they were coming.
Quickly hiding behind a large tree I held my breath watching and waiting for a sign of movement. I was to scared to shift back to my human form and had no clothes anyway so that would have been difficult. I decided to stay in my wolf and run back to the packhouse.
That's when I heard someone growl and the words
"Mine!"
“Mate!” I couldn’t believe it. Not only had I shifted but some crazy ass was shouting about me being their mate.
“I am not yours and you are not mine. I don’t care for who you are just leave and don’t come back!”
I ran and ran as fast as I could. Whoever the hell that was behind me was pretty quick and clearly didn’t have a clue for what leave me alone meant. Either that or they were just tone deaf.
I was still extremely fast managing to keep a decent distance between us.
The pack house was coming into sight and I was sure I'd lost my stalker but didn't want to risk that. I shifted back to my human form and grabbed my spare clothes quickly I pulling the dress over my head and rushing up the steps to the main door of the packhouse. Tears were streaming down my face and my heart was thumping away in my chest it was a surprise that I had managed to get away do fast.
"Whoah what's the rush birthday girl?" An amused voice sounded as I ran right into them. I realised it was my fathers beta's son, Luke. I didn’t care that it was him again, I was just relieved to be away from whoever had been chasing me.
"Oh my I was so scared someone was after me. I was just having a drink after shifting into my wolf ."
Luke's eyes widened in shock and dismay.
"You left the packhouse without consulting anyone first? Amelia you know you mustn't leave the ... hold on did you say your wolf?"
I nodded still getting my breath back.
He rubbed his forehead thoughtfully and looked a bit stressed.
"So that means you've shifted already and you now have your wolf."
"Yes my wolf, Ava. She’s so beautiful Luke.”
"Oh my goodness Amelia we need to keep you safe and supervised at all times. That is the word of your father, the alpha. For your own safety. How did you not get seen by our warrior and guards out there?”
“Quite easily. I dodged them and they never even noticed me once. Besides I’m far too quick for them fools.”
Luke wasn’t impressed at all and it made me feel annoyed that he was acting all macho man when he barely knew me anyway. I could handle myself.
“What’s going on baby? Who are you talking to?” A ginger haired girl came up behind Luke, snaking her hands all over his chest and snuggling into him. She glared at me like I was some sort of threat to her. I had seen that sort of look before from back at school but took no notice.
“Zoe this is Amelia we were just talking. Please go back to bed.” He demanded but she chose to ignore his order and instead continued to glare at me.
“What’s your problem?” I stepped towards her not one bit of fear in me. She looked like a silly weak girl and I would knock her into next week if she dared to look down on me.
She looked surprised for a second before smirking and grabbing Luke’s hand.
“He’s mine and you can just keep your hands off my man.”
I swung my hand in the air and slapped her cheek causing her to fall but Luke caught her. She held a hand to her slapped cheek and furiously shouted at me calling me all the names under the sun.
“Keep your b***h in check.” I warned Luke. “My father will be hearing about this. “
“I’m going to tell the alpha and Luna and you will be thrown into the cells with the rest of the criminals”. Zoe seethed which made me laugh loudly. That only enticed her further.
“I’m sure my father, the alpha would love to hear such rubbish about his only daughter.”
The colour drained from her face as realisation dawned on her that I was in fact the daughter of the alpha.
“Oh my goddess I am so sorry. Please forgive me.” She genuinely looked apologetic but I didn’t care for her or her pathetic apology. Sleep was more important right now.
“Good night.” I walked off to my bedroom without giving either of them a second glance.
“Why didn’t you tell me who she was!” I heard her shriek angrily at poor Luke.
Oh well I was far too tired to care about that. Today I was finally sixteen!
