There was a majestic silence throughout the place after the person standing in front of her uttered these words, as if it fell on them like an explosive bomb, and for a few moments her mind did not comprehend what he said, so she said, and it seemed that her voice came out loud, although she intended to say that inside her mind, "Did he just say mate?"
He turned halfway to her, and despite his sharp eyes that gave off blazing sparks, he was damn handsome—the kind she hates the most in men. Don't judge her, but handsome men are always followed by trouble wherever they step foot.
Then he looked forward again, while she caught a glimpse of Sarah and Lydia, who were watching the scene with their mouths open, and she had a hunch telling her that this was not an ordinary shock at all.
That fiery woman said, "You're kidding right, it can't be her."
Suddenly, out of nowhere, Lydia said sarcastically, "And were you waiting to be his mate? God have mercy, b***h, that would have been eternal torment for us."
And while another quarrel started between them, her eyes did not leave Sarah, who looked at her for the whole time, and she did not understand what her looks meant, but Emily certainly looked at her, as if to say please help me, but before Sarah could move, the handsome young man turned to her and took her hand and then began to pull her out behind him, and it did not seem that he would stop soon, so she said out loud as she pulled her hand hard from his, "Chill dude, I don't want it broken."
He turned to look at her, and she said, while rubbing her wrist gently, "Who are you?"
"You must be joking," he said sarcastically.
She raised her eyebrows and looked at him as if to say, Excuse me. Who do you think you are? Then she said out loud, "Do I know you? Sorry, but we are not friends."
He looked at her for a bit without saying anything, as if he had just realised who she was, and said, "Eric, the alpha of the wolves."
Emily nodded at first, but the name soon rang a bell in her head. "Eric, Eric, the famous Eric!" she said, as if making sure.
He nodded softly to her, and she said, after giggling in disbelief, "You must be kidding me."
"I don't do Emily Winter," he said in his usual stern tone. "I expected my mate to be as strong as I am, but," and then he gave her those looks of disappointment.
She looked at herself, then at him, and said, "What?"
He said, "Nothing; come on, you have to go with me."
He was about to grab her hand again, but she pulled it quickly and said, "I don't like physical contact; you'd better keep a distance. I don't trust you yet."
Eric exhaled sarcastically, looked at her as if she had lost her mind, and said, "Follow me, human."
Then he moved towards the academy headmaster's office while Emily was walking behind him, but she had to run a bit to be able to keep up with him.
Emily reached where Eric was standing. "Good start, wolf," she said, regulating her breath.
Eric looked at her out of the corner of his eye, but he did not speak, but he knocked on the door, then entered quickly without waiting to hear a response from inside, while Emily exhaled sarcastically and followed him, and Eric said directly, "I found my mate."
Then he pointed to Emily, who was standing behind him nervously, without even turning to her.
In the room there was an old man sitting on the office chair, and there were two others in front of him. Emily was able to distinguish them. One of them was the beta of the King of the Wolves, and the other was the commander of the army of the Queen of Siren.
The man said excitedly, "This is good news, and the king will surely be happy ti hear it."
Before the other two could say anything, Emily said, "Sorry, who said I agreed to that. I just followed him because I was in a tough spot, that's all."
Everyone looked at her in shock, including Eric, who turned to her completely and then said, "Do you reject me?"
Emily shrugged and said, "Yeah, so what?"
Eric's eyes reddened for a few seconds before the headmaster said, "How about we let the king and queens know first before you take any decision, as it seems that you do not yet know what mate means?"
Emily shrugged again. "That won't change my decision anyway. I'm still 16. I don't need a boyfriend at that age, and he's not good enough to be an exception anyway."
"As if you're good too," said Eric. "You're nothing but a human idiot."
"Oh, really, said the fang, wolf" Emily said.
The beta stopped them before the fight broke out. Then he said "Stop it, both of you"
Emily turned to him and said, "There is no law that forces me to accept it, right?"
The beta and those with him fell silent, not knowing what to say, while Eric exhaled sarcastically and said, gritting his teeth, "I must have committed a sin in my previous life for the gods to choose for me a useless mate like you."
Before the quarrel intensified, the Queen of Witches suddenly appeared. The headmaster of the academy was a magician, so it took little time for him to send the news to the Queen. After everyone bowed to her, Emily did the same after Eric gave her a fiery look. She had forgotten that she should bow too.
"Emily," said the Witch Queen very happily, "it's not long since you came and all the good news followed. Congratulations, Alpha! You've waited so long."
Emily said, "I didn't say yes."
Before the queen could reply, Eric said, "Don't speak rudely to the queen, human."
Emily replied, "It's none of your business."
The beta interrupted them again, saying, "Please stop fighting."
"My God," said the Queen of Witches, "have they been like this since they met?"
Emily said, "He started it."
Eric did not pay any attention to her, and the Queen of Witches said, "What will you do when you move in together then?"
Emily's voice cracked in shock, "What the f**k?"
"She curses too, awesome," Eric said wearily.
"Emily, my dear," said the Witch Queen understandingly, "I know this is all new to you, but it is the tradition. You and your mate are destined for each other, so you must live together."
"That will never happen," Emily said sternly.
Everyone looked at each other in confusion, not knowing what to do. Emily was now the most important person in all the kingdoms for them, so scaring her would not help them with anything, especially since this world was new to her.
As for Emily, she was haunted by her mother's ghost. Her mother became pregnant with her while she was still a teenager, so she had a phobia of relationships. Even when she was in the land of humans, she did not have a lover, although Mia and Mark had many relationships. But Emily was afraid to try that. In addition to that, she remembered Sarah's words about Eric, she would never repeat her mother's history; she had sworn to that, she would never open her heart to anyone.
As for Eric, his feelings were incomprehensible even to himself. Eric was raised to live a strict life. He did nothing but carry out orders. His parents did not have children but him, so they prepared him to take the lead.
And he is not only the leader of a pack but the king of all packs, so he did not think much about feelings; all he was thinking about was getting his mate so that he could be crowned as soon as possible.
But Emily breaks his plans, and she stubbornly stands in front of him and rejects him.
"My dear," said the Witch Queen.
But Emily interrupted her, saying, "Never in a million years."
