Chapter 10: Model Contracts

1045 Words
After they ate dinner at Nate's penthouse, Katie and the twins stayed for a while to have some wine while chatting and then they helped Nate with cleaning everything up before they finally said goodnight and left. Nate offered to bring Katie home but she refused. It was already evening and Katie knew that Nate was already exhausted from work and then from cooking dinner for them. She could just take an Uber anyway. Nate also refused to let Katie leave when he can drive her home safely. And before they could argue back and forth, Naoki declared that he and Natsumi will drive Katie home instead. Nate thankfully agreed, while Katie rolled her eyes at Nate but she smiled gratefully at Naoki. Since Katie's apartment was on the way when Naoki drove back to the Matsunaga residence since their University was near, so instead of renting an apartment near the university, they're staying at their family's house, that was why Katie knew it won't be difficult for them to drop her off at her apartment. That was why she agreed, at the same time ease Nate's mind. Nate was so caring and protective to the people he care about, and it was sweet and Katie appreciates it, but she also care about him and didn't want to trouble him unnecessarily when she knew he was already exhausted from work. Nate walked them down his building to see them off. - "Thank you for dropping me off." Katie said to Naoki when they arrived a while later at her apartment. "Take care and goodnght." She told the twins. "Goodnight!" Natsumi called out, while Naoki just inclined his head with a slight smile. Naoki didn't drove off until Katie managed to open her apartment door. She waved at them again before she entered her apartment. She heard the car drove off. While opening some lights, she realized that Sara was still not home. Katie wondered how did Sara's audition went. - It was almost near 10 in the evening when Katie heard the sound of a vehicle stopping in front of the apartment and someone was talking in a loud voice and she heard Sara replying back, then the vehicle drove off and the keys jiggling as someone opened the locked knob from the door of their apartment. "How's the audition went?" Katie asked from her perch on the beige family couch, she was watching some movie on their flatscreen, when Sara finally walked towards the living room after she entered and locked the door of the apartment, Sara sighed. There was a slight swaying on the way Sara walked. She was tipsy if not drunk, Katie noticed. Uh-oh. "It didn't." Sara muttered dejectedly. She sat on a single couch, took off her shoes and massage her aching feet. "Your shoes is fabulous, but it wasn't so fabulous anymore when it's giving me blisters." "No one told you not to put some foot stockings." Katie pointed out. "It slipped my mind when I was in a hurry earlier." Sara reasoned. "So what happened? I was so confident that you'll get the job." Katie said with a frown. Sara made a face. "I thought so, too. And after my audition, I'm absolutely sure that I'll get chosen as one of their spokesperson for their make-up brand, and then that woman arrived, and suddenly she got my spot. It's not surprising since it's obvious that someone is backing her up and she came from a known company." She told Katie dejectedly. "Who took your spot?" Katie asked incredulously. "It's that artist from Wang Entertainment. Her name is Sandra Lane. She became a model and then an actress a year or so before I started taking modeling jobs. She's not really that popular, and she mostly got minor roles from movies, but she always got hired by companies." Sara said in frustration. Katie was shocked. So, it seems that Sandra appeared earlier than she thought, and she was an artist in one of the popular entertainment company. Back on her previous life, Katie met Sandra after Katie became a popular actress. It seems like some things are progressing differently in this life time's timeline. Hmm, maybe because she was changing something herself, like when she met Luke, for example. Was fate giving her a helping hand or shuffling things for her? And knowing Sandra's character from her previous life, Katie won't be surprise if she was using the same means from back then when it comes to getting what she wants. But now, Katie's best friend Sara was affected by what Sandra did. "Is that why you went drinking?" "Well, at first it was just to have dinner together with those other models who applied with me, but as we talked and voiced out our frustrations and bitternes, then we decided to get drinking to have a group pity party." Sara explained while grinning. Katie shook her head. "So, what's your plan now? Do you have other opportunity to audition to some other company?" Sara pouted. "Well, my agent suggested if I want to try live streaming to sell products for the same company that rejected me to be a make-up ad model. So I'll be the one selling stuff that the chosen models are going to advertise. The one I didn't get. Talk about adding salt to injury!" Then she huffed. "But if I'm gonna do a live stream and advertise or sell products, it's better if I do it myself instead of working for that company like that. At least if I work like that on my own, I'll get all the benefits, but if I work as a live streamer for them, they'll get the traffics and benefits while I'll only get paid by commision if I sell a product." "That's right. Since you'll be using their website, so all the traffics will go to their sites. You'll get less pay than the site and company will get." Katie agreed "I know, right. That's what I told my agent and my manager." Sara nodded "And who knows, if you live stream enough and get lots of following, brands will be knocking on your door next time." Katie said in encouragement. "Yeah, you're right!" Sara agreed enthusiastically.
