"But for now, start building an audience." Katie told Sara then she thought of something. "Anyway, why don't you also try applying as a runway model? Fashion week is about to start, so there's a lot of fashion houses that'll be hiring models." She also suggested.
"I tried to go to a go-see and applied to some of the branded houses here in New York, but I'm still waiting for a call back. My limited or lack of experience on being in a fashion runway is also a hindrance to get a call back from those fashion houses. For them it'll probably more effective to hire models who already build some reputation and popularity in the fashion world. Unless I'm Kendall Jenner, which I'm not, then no fashion houses will be contacting me and offering me a job just by my name alone. Unless I get some kind of achievement or merit to gain me more popularity, then all I can do is try my best and wait for their callbacks." Sara said matter of factly, but Katie could tell that her friend was anything but casual about this. It was affecting her friend's confidence in herself.
"Why not try to apply for Nate's fashion house. We're so busy preparing for the Fashion Week and he'll probably looking to hire models for the runway and for photoshoots for magazines. It'll be great to add to your portfolio." Katie suggested.
Sara looked at Katie like she was from another planet.
"What?" Katie asked in confusion. Did she say something wrong?
"If I can't make it to those branded fashion houses, do you think I'll even make it to Nate's go-see? Nate's go-see for applicants are well selected and for invites only. My agent tried getting invites, they were denied. Since Nate and his fashion house didn't want to waste time, so they'll only send invites to those apzplocants that they're already familiar with and probably recommended by some people who's backing them." Sara explained to Katie.
Katie's eye widened. "Whoa, I never thought it's like that. I mean, it's Nate, so I never realize it's that hard to apply as a model for his company."
"Take note that his fashion house was built way before he became the CEO, so that started even before he took over, he just continued the tradition since it works and they didn't have to pick models from thousands of applicants." Sara told her.
"How come they didn't give you an invitation, didn't Nate recognized you when your agent asked for an invite?" Katie asked with a frown.
Sara shook her head. "My agent obviously has no idea that I kinda know Nate through you, she probably asked for the invite as a request for the company and not on my name, and besides, it's not like it's Nate who'll talk to those people."
Katie agreed. Nate has his staff to talk to people who calls the company. "That's a mistake on your agents end. If she only used your name rather than your company's, then Nate would probably have recognize you when he was checking the lists for approval of those getting the invitation."
"Yeah well, it's a missed opportunity. Like you said, it's almost Fashion Week and everyone's busy." Sara shrugged.
Katie thought for a while before she got an idea. "Hmm. I'm not promising anything but maybe I could ask Nate for an invitation, but don't get so excited yet, like I said, I'll try and see if I can ask him about it. So don't tell it to your manager or agent yet since it's not a done deal." She told Sara. Even though Katie was sure Nate would give her an invitation for Sara, Katie just didn't want Sara to get her hopes up prematurely.
"Oh my gosh!!! Thank you Katie! Even if I'm dying to tell the whole world about this, I swear I won't tell anyone. Maybe later after I got the invitation. Ahhhh, oh my gosh!!!" Sara declared while she was almost yelling with excitement.
"Calm down or you'll combust!" Katie yelled as she smiled and shook her head. "Now that you're not so down anymore, I'll go back on my movie."
Sara looked at the movie Katie was watching, it was an action spy movie. "Is that Dylan Kim? Gosh he's so gorgeous! I wish I could go to one of his fan meetings to meet him."
"Only if you fly to Korea and spend money to get his merchandise or album so you'll get a chance to get a ticket." Katie pointed out.
"His fans there are so lucky. They're so near their idol." Sara said wistfully. "Anyway, now that I'm calm and re-energize, I'm suddenly feeling hungry, being sad and hopeless really isn't good for my health, it's energy consuming and it's making me hungry. What did you order earlier for dinner? Is there a left-over?" She asked Katie wistfully.
"I didn't order anything since Nate cooked and I ate dinner at his place." Katie announced.
Sara grumbled. "Lucky. Nate is such a good cook. You should marry him and then I can come over all the time and eat some food that he cooks."
Katie raised her brow. "So, you want me to marry Nate so you can eat all you want? What logic is that?"
"The logical one."
"Crazy."
"So, why didn't you?" Sara asked curiously.
"Didn't I what?"
"Get in a relationship with Nate? You're close since childhood, you obviously care about each other, you're perfect for each other." Sara pointed out.
"Hmm... " Katie suddenly paused as if thinking about something. "Like you said we're close since chilhood, we've known each other to the point of continuing each others sentences, but that's the gist of it, we're comfortable with each other like siblings, we never thought about liking each other more than that. We don't have that kind of attraction or feelings for each other. Nate is like a brother I didn't have, and for him, I'm like another loud and mischievous sister. I think if Nate pursue someone, it'll be someone who he'll feel something so strongly. Something unexpected but welcome, that'll just struck you suddenly." Katie explained.
Sara looked at her with her eyes squinted. "You talk as if you met someone who shook your world under your feet. Who is he?"
Katie blinked a few times. Sara really knew her so well. "Earlier, at Nate's office."
"Spill!" Sara said excitedly.
"I'm not telling since there's nothing to tell. I'll wait and see what'll happen next. And let the fate take its course."
"Are you gonna see him again?"
"Maybe in the near future, but not right now since he's flown to Japan. He'll probably be there for a week or two." Katie told Sara.
"So he's an associate of Nate's. Does he work at Nate's company?"
Katie shook her head. "Nope, but they're cousins."
"Wow. Seeing Nate, I'm sure his cousin is super gorgeous too."
Katie grinned and nodded.
"Oh my gosh!" Sara grabbed her phone and started typing, "I'll see what this cousin of Nate looks like."
"I doubt you can search him online, he's so aloof, so I don't think you will find something."
Sara agreed with disappointment after a moment. "Yeah, everytime I typed 'Nate Matsunaga's cousin', the search engine is giving me various people, and I'm not even sure what he looks like and what his name is. I'm just looking if Nate's photo will appear together with that cousin of his, but nothing. There was a stolen shot of Nate on a fashion show, he's with his siblings. His brother Naoki is handsome, too."
"I told you so. And yeah, their family has a bunch of beautiful people." Katie pointed out.
"Well, since I'm already online, I'll just order for a pizza," Sara declared as she started typing again.
Katie left her to it as she continued watching the movie.
