Chapter 12: Applicant Invitation

1093 Words
"What's on your mind, Katie belle?" Nate asked Katie suddenly. They were both in Nate's office and they just got back from another meeting. "I keep noticing you're looking at me like you wanted to say something, so what is it?" Katie sighed. It seemed like she couldn't hide anything from Nate. He knew her since they were kids afterall. It has been a few days since Katie and Sara talked about asking Nate for an invitation but Katie couldn't seem to get the right timing to ask Nate since he was so busy all the time, and she wouldn't want to interfere with his work just to ask him about the invitation for applicants his company would screen to model his creations on the runway. Katie bit her lip as she stood from her perch on the couch, put her drawing tablet on the coffee table and walked towards Nate's desk. "How's the invitation for the go-see for Fashion Week? Did you already sent invitations?" She gauged his answer to her question. Nate frowned. "Not yet. We're waiting for the print shop to deliver them, maybe later this week." He answered Katie's question, but also wondering why Katie was interested with the invitation for the models they'll screen to hire for Fashion Week. "Does the invitation already have a personalized name on each of one of them or not?" "No, we have a calligraphy artists for that who will write the names of the invited applicants manually." Nate told her. "I mean, it'll be more personalized and originally artistic to do that rather than have the printshop edit and print different names per invitation, it'll take some time and added expenses." Katie nodded slowly as she heard what Nate said. "So there's still really a chance..." "Chance of what...?" Nate asked her with a curious frown as he heard her muttering. "Are you planning to apply as a model for my Fashion brand?" Nate guessed with a grin, his eyes suddenly glinting with ideas. Katie laughed and shook her head. "No, it's not for me. It's for my friend. She's a model. Remember Sara? You met her already." Nate was a bit disappointed that Katie denied his chance of having her as his model for his collection. Despite Katie's reluctance of walking the runway for various reasons, she really has the aura and charm to get people's attention. Nate nodded in acknowledgement when he heard Sara's name. "Yeah, I remember her. Why didn't she reach out herself, though?" He asked with a frown. Katie rolled her eyes. "She said her agent already did ask for an invitation but was refused, and I just heard from her that your company is very selective to choose the models for you creations. That a normal walk-in model can't apply without an invitation from your company. This is the first time I knew about that. So, I volunteered for her to ask for an invitation from you so she can go and apply to your company's go-see. I'm not saying you must hire her instantly because she's my bestfriend and you know her, just give her an invitation to apply, then she can take it from there." She said to Nate. "I thought she's applying for some product advertisement, won't it affect her schedules?" Nate asked thoughtfully. "She didn't make it. There was another model with a backer who got her spot. And she was waiting for call backs, too. That's why I thought of asking you for an invitation after I heard from her that her agent got turned away." Katie explained. "Fine, I'll ask my assistant to add her name on the list who'll get an invitation." Nate easily agreed. "But with one condition... " Katie narrowed her eyes at Nate's devilish grin. She knew he was up to something, she could see it in his eyes. "What?" "Be my contract model, too, for this collection." Nate suggested. Katie huffed. "You know I don't like to walk the runway." "Why?" Nate asker her with confusion. "You're beautiful and you have the perfect look to be a model. You already looked like a model right now. Or even a celebrity." Katie was a model and celebrity from her previous life, so she knew what Nate meant, but despite being an ad model, she never walked the runway in her previous life. She knew she has the face, the model esque body and the charisma, but she just didn't see the appeal of walking in a long platform again and again, not to mention that she fear that her heels will snag onto something or her feet will rolled sideways and she'll fall flat on her face on the catwalk. Yeah, her thoughts are so weird and unfounded, but that was her fear, of doing something embarrassing and ridiculous while walking down the runway that will end up into an accident and at the front page of every news and magazine pages both in print and websites! Just look at what happened to her. She fell down the stairs wearing heels while standing on a small space, and then she ended up dying and brought back here in her past. So that can be added to her trauma, never stand on small dangerous-ish places while wearing high heels. Yes, the b***h ex-friend Sandra was the reason she was pushed down the stairs and not because she was wearing heels or the fact they're on the stairs, but still, it became one of the reason why she doesn't want to walk down narrow or limited space with a possibility of having an accident. Maybe she bacame more cautious or paranoid now. Does she need to go to theraphy now? "Do you think I should consult a therapist?" She suddenly asked Nate. Nate became worried. "Why?" "Because I have this weird thought that I'll fall off my face on a runway. Same with walking with high heels on bridges, stairs, and so on. I have this crazy thought that my heels will snag on something and create accidents for me." Katie explained with a shrug. "It's not a bad idea to talk to a therapist, especially if it'll ease your worries. And if you need someone to talk to with any doubts and fears you have in your thoughts, don't hesitate to tell me." Nate said softly. "And if you don't want to walk in runways, you can model my collections through various print ads and the company's website. And I'll give you lots of freebies." He suggested.
