"Good luck with both. I'm sure you can handle that well. All you have to do is stare them to meekness." Nate said half-joking.
"If only. Grandmother could do well with staring someone down to meekness. You know that. It'll be more easier with the second problem, which I rather face than confronting grandmother." Luke shook his head, but he doesn't looked worried at all.
Nate laughed at the mention of their whimsical grandmother who acts spoiled most of the time. "How long will you be there?"
"A week, give or take. Unless grandmother asked me to stay longer. She always laments that her grandchildren are all so busy that she barely see us." Then Luke stared at Nate meaningfully.
"Tell her I'll visit after I'm done with the preparation for Fashion Week. I barely go out these days because of the hectic schedule. I'll also bring Natsumi and Naoki along." Nate compromised.
Luke nodded. "She'd like that I'm sure."
"I wonder why she won't visit us here if she misses us." Nate frowned. "We could spend more time with her, and it's not like the family doesn't have a private plane."
"Then she'll miss her mahjong buddies and other grandchildren in Japan. Remember she brought her mahjong buddies along on her cruise trip." Luke pointed out. "They were playing mahjong on the ship rather than sight seeing."
They both grinned as they shook their heads.
Then Nate groaned. "Please tell me it's not a floating Casino."
Luke shook his head. "Nope. Just a luxury cruise ship that mother booked for her and her friends."
Nate sighed in relief.
"If that's the case, then your grandmother will enjoy Las Vegas." Katie suggested after she ordered their food. "Foods will be here in 20 minutes." She also declared.
"She'll probably stay and buy a house in Las Vegas if that happened." Luke stated in a matter -of-fact voice.
Nate nodded in agreement.
Katie rolled her eyes. She knew they were half-teasing her. "Why buy? When Nate's dad has a hotel branch in Vegas. She could play in the hotel's Casino too." She pointed out.
The cousins looked at each other, then shook their head as if in defeat.
Nate's father will probably be chagrined if that ever happened, if his grandmother, his father's mother, would stay in Vegas and never plan to leave at all.
"Uncle will combust." Luke stated.
Nate nodded in agreement. "Yeah, he'll get worried if grandmother will stake the hotel as collateral for her gambling."
Katie eyed them both unbelievingly. "You're both not serious right."
They both looked at her.
"We're not joking. Once grandmother is immerse on something, she'll pursue it without rest. That was why I'm ending her idea about matchmaking me with a stanger while it's still early." Luke told her.
"Yeah, Luke's right." Nate agreed. "It's like when you became so obsessed with that game you played a while ago, for example, you never stopped until you won, claimed the victory, bought the merch and all their stuff, and then went to all the fanmeets and convention, and cosplay for it too. I can say that fact because I was dragged into that obsessiveness of yours. You also made me cosplay a character!" he reminded her. "That's how our grandmother could be. Only in different vices."
Nate nodded while looking at her with a raised brow. "Cosplay?"
Katie rolled her eyes. "That was ages ago and it's a long story."
"That's gone on for years and you only mellow a bit 3 months ago!" Nate reminded her.
Well, for Katie, it was ages ago since she only got back in this time of her life just this morning when she woke up.
She was saved from further being exposed in front of Luke when one of the assistant informed them that their orders was here already.
"I'm sure everyone's hungry already, so excuse me and I'll get the foods." Katie said as she got up from where she was sitting.
"Brat."
"Tattletale."
Katie and Nate both made a face at each other.
"Children." Luke admonished them. They both eyed Luke before sticking their tongue out at him. "Very mature of you two." Luke rolled his eyes, but he was amused. So he was not surprised anymore how immature they could be, based on how he saw them earlier.
"Go ahead and talk business, while I prepare everything. I'll go ahead and choose a wine on your collection Nate."
"Yeah, yeah...." Nate agreed and then he and Luke finally talked about business.
--
After a while. ..
"So, besides our original business plan which was the reason of this meeting, what else is on your mind?" Luke said after they talked about why they were having a meeting in the first place.
"Since I'll be leaving this afternoon, I want you to look and handle over some business of mine on this end while I'm away. I was waiting for some movie bigwigs to call me back regarding a project for some of the artists on my company. It's a joint project and my company will co-produce the movie if this push through." Luke told Nate. "So if they contact the company while I'm still in Japan or Korea, I told my assistant to contact you so you can speak on my behalf."
"Fine, I'll deal with it for you. Though this can also be a good experience for Naoki if he's gonna be handling one of our family businesses." Nate pointed out.
"Maybe another time. This is an important deal and no matter how brilliant Naoki is, they'll see him as someone who's still green with talking about business, unlike you who's already making a name on the business and fashion world. They'll take you more seriously." Luke pointed out. "But that doesn't mean you can't let Naoki sit in the discussion. To gain him ideas and experience. Just lead the meeting."
"Good idea. I'll talk to him later." Nate agreed.
"Okay enough shop talk, let's eat first while the food is hot." Katie declared after preparing the food, cater style, on Luke's conference room adjacent to his private office.
