It had been a week since I settled in the village, which I'm going to summarize. It's a little village deep in the woods, inhabited by witches; nobody can enter unless they have their approval. In the village, we had a private clinic, and schools, and it appeared like a regular human town. I found myself at Rose's house with Rebecca, and today, I was returning to classes while I worked at the clinic. "Good morning," I said upon seeing Rebecca entering the kitchen. I handed her a cup of coffee. "Do you like coffee?" I asked, giving her the cup. "Yes, thanks," she said as she took a sip and ate a piece of toast with jam. In the week since we moved here, we have been talking and clarifying several things, mostly about her. "What will I do when it becomes noticeable?" "Are you talking about school?" I asked. She nodded. "You can still go, even with your baby bump. It's not taboo for pregnant girls to study these days," I told her. "Yes, you're right, but I don't want them to find out," she said, blushing. "In that case, we'll buy some loose-fitting clothes," she nodded. After a few minutes, we walked to my car to reach the school, and I went to work. I was signing the last papers of the day when I felt someone standing beside me. I stopped writing to glance at them; it was a nurse. I turned to look at her. "You have a call, Doctor," she informed me, and I furrowed my brow, picking up the phone from the counter. I thanked her before answering. "Vic..." I heard Amelia's voice through the microphone. "What's happening? Are you okay?" I asked, but she didn't respond. Before I could speak again, I heard a noise like something falling. "Sorry, it's because a lot of guys with covered faces entered. They're looking for the girl." "Where are you?" I asked. "Under the reception counter. This will be quick because they can discover us. Did you take the papers? Tap the phone's microphone if you did. I have one in front of me," I heard her voice as if she had placed the phone on the ground. I tapped the microphone, and I saw her ending the call. I spent the whole afternoon worried about Amelia; she wasn't answering her phone, which made me even more hysterical. There were no patients at the clinic, and it was clear that the witches wouldn't harm each other, at least when they wanted to. My shift had ended, and I was driving to Rebecca's school when I saw her with another girl. They said their goodbyes, and she got into the car. "How was your first day?" I asked. I felt like a mother... "Good, they are friendly, except for one girl... She's a total witch," I chuckled. We arrived home, and I saw Rose in the kitchen. We greeted her, but she had a serious expression. "What's going on?" I asked. "Rebecca, can you leave us alone for a moment?" she asked, and Rebecca left. "Today, the hospital was attacked." "I know. How's Amelia? Did they do anything to you?" I asked. "We're fine," she reassured me. "They weren't after Rebecca, Vic; they were after you. They were Iskander's wolves." Iskander... it's impossible. Why would he return after all these years? "It's impossible that it's them," I said, shaking my head. "If anyone, it would have been Borja's men, and you must be mistaken... He threatened me to come with him if I didn't tell him where she was, but he has no proof that I brought Rebecca here." "You need to be careful from now on. You don't have your pendant; he can sense you. It's not safe for you to be here," she said. "What do you recommend?" I asked. "You should go back to the city. I'll take care of Rebecca, and you'll distract those wolves," I shook my head in fear. I wouldn't deal with him even if I were dead. There had to be another way to handle this. "He can't touch you, Victoria. There's a deal; we have to prove that you weren't involved with Rebecca, and you'll be fine, alright?" she said. I nodded. "But I quit my job a week ago, Rose," I said. "What do I tell my boss? 'Hey, I'm back! I realized I was going through a rough patch, will you hire me?'" "Well, you'll have to beg him. If we're going to do this, you won't put yourself in danger, so go back to your apartment... Tell me you didn't sell it?" she asked. I quickly shook my head. "Alright, I'll go back to the city," I said resignedly, leaving the kitchen. I saw Rebecca trying to eavesdrop, and I looked at her. "What are you doing?" I raised an eyebrow and gave her a faint smile, pulling her away from there. "You're leaving?" she asked. I nodded. "Yes, you'll stay with Rose. She'll help you, and I'll call you tonight, okay?" She nodded, and I hugged her. I packed my suitcase again and loaded it into the car. If I left at this hour, I would arrive in the early morning. I said my goodbyes to the two of them and drove back to my apartment.
