NOBODY'S POV
Candy was making chicken fried rice in the kitchen that night when her phone started ringing. Gabe who was leaning against the counter grabbed it for her.
"It's your mom."
She frowned, wondering why her mom was calling her so late at night. Cleaning her hands with the napkin, she turned around the counter to get her phone. Her heart skipped a beat as thoughts of something bad happening crossed her mind. No. Nobody could have known about their plans.
"Hello, mom," she signaled to Gabe to watch the food before walking away. "Yes, I can hear you. What happened?"
"We...I don't know but this is getting out of hand, Candy. I know this has nothing to do with us but it just goes to show Connor will do anything for this girl. You could have chosen someone else! Why her?"
