Chapter 6: Get To Know You (2) * * * ‘Everything here is insanely expensive…’ Felix thought to himself after taking a single glance at the menu, there wasn’t a single thing he could afford to consume and not feel guilty about it afterwards. ‘I wonder if the food is so good that people don’t mind the price… or is it just that rich people have too much money to spear so they throw it on things like these?’ Even though all these thoughts were going through his head, his expression looked as calm as a river. Nobody would ever assume he is internally panicking. “I couldn’t possibly allow you to pay for me.” Felix said with a smile. “I’d be more than willing to treat you instead Director.” This move might have seemed strange to most people but the actor had a clear aim when he asked that simple question. First because it was polite to suggest to pay for the other person and second… because he clearly saw how proud Griffin was as a man. And no prideful person would allow someone else to treat them to food like this. Such was the male ego. Now that isn’t a bad thing to say the least… “I invited you here, so allow me to treat you.” Griffin said as he handed the menu back to the waiter. ‘This is the first time someone’s suggested to pay for the food…’ The Director thought to himself, the gesture certainly made an impression on him. ‘As expected he rejected my offer, now I can order anything I want with a clear conscience!’ Felix thought to himself as he also gave the menu back to the waiter. “I’ll have the Island Duck with Mulberry Mustard.” “Understood, and as to wine?” The waiter asked. “I’m driving.” Griffin said as he turned to the man. “Order whatever you’d like for yourself.” Regardless of the fact the man wasn’t going to partake in drinking, he didn’t want to limit the other person. “A glass of water for me as well.” Felix said with a smile. “It’s bad manners to be the only one drinking.” He continued as he turned to look at the man sitting before him. The waiter nodded his head and went to fulfill the two men’s order. The quiet and classy atmosphere of the restaurant certainly made everything feel quote more comfortable than if it were the opposite. ‘He’s polite, understanding, kind and also a good actor…’ Griffin was slowly but surely beginning to understand why Harriet spoke so highly of someone she’d only seen for less than half an hour. But there were still a lot of things he didn’t understand as well. “How long have you been an actor?” Griffin asked the man, he had previously already seen all the man’s files available to him so he knew the answer to his question but he asked it anyway. “I officially began as an actor five years ago after I finished the training classes which I attended for two and a half years.” Felix said, giving maybe a bit more information than he was asked for. “You must have started very young then.” Griffin remarked. “Yes, when I was about seventeen or so… I was lucky enough to have an incredible tutor in the acting classes.” Felix spoke words of praise for his teacher. “He must be very proud of you. Winning such a large role for yourself without using any connections.” Griffin said as he took a sip of the water he was brought. “Unfortunately there is no way for me to know whether or not he’d be proud of me…” Felix said as his expression saddened ever the slightest bit while he spoke. His shoulders slumped and he looked down at his lap. “I’m sorry for your loss.” Griffin said as he looked at the man’s darkened eyes. He instantly knew how much the teacher he spoke so fondly off meant to him. “Ah… it’s nothing like that!”Felix waves his hands slowly in front of his face. “He’s not gone… He moved to the States a while ago, I haven’t heard anything from him since.” The actor explained. “I’m sorry for misunderstanding.” Griffin instantly apologized. “I’m the one who should apologize… I misled you with the way I worded things.” Felix said as he took a sip of his own glass of water. ‘Not that I didn’t do that on purpose.’ He thought to himself. “Tell me… I heard you have incredible acting talent. So why haven’t you made it in movies yet?” Griffin asked, the man in front of him didn’t seem to hesitate to answer him. “Unfortunately… most agencies are looking for already established actors. Nobody wants a no name celebrity no matter how good they are. After all… it’s the actors that sell the movie.” Felix said as he looked at the man questioning him. ‘That’s exactly what I was thinking…’ Griffin thought to himself, the more he listened to the man the more he realized how intelligent the other person was. He was self aware and seemed to adapt quickly as well. “That’s exactly why I’m so thankful to you Mr. Hendrick and to the judges from today… This role is truly my opportunity to make it, that’s why I certainly won’t disappoint you with my performance.” Felix said confidently, but that confidence wasn’t over the top. The man seemed humble in his speech and everything from the micro expressions he made to the body language he portrayed, everything pointed to him being sincere… However hidden beneath that overly polite façade was his true personality which had not a single similarity with what he outwardly portrayed. ‘The Director’s obviously asking me this because he doesn’t agree with me taking the role. I bet he came here to try and gauge what kind of person I am…’ Felix thought to himself, the entire performance he was putting on at the moment was for the sake of more or less manipulating the man in front of him to leave the role to him. There is no way someone would push away a hardworking aspiring actor, right? “Truly… I was having doubts about you being the second male lead… Just as you said I also thought that the actors sell the movie.” Griffin said in a low voice. “But I’m willing to make a bet on you. You will become a star with Higher Entertainment, I’ll make sure to it.” And with those very words… the Director put the start of my career as an actor…
