I arrived at the apartment I shared with Louisa. I stepped out of the taxi as I thanked the driver. He had noticed my sullen mood and cheered me up with funny stories from his childhood which I couldn't help but laugh at.
He was a funny man, I will give him that.
Walking up the stairs, i met Mrs Reynolds who always treated me like a daughter.
"Hello Angela, how're you doing today?," Mrs Reynolds greeted.
"I'm okay, just a bit tired," I replied as I forced a smile.
"I have told you several times to call me Alice but you don't seem to listen. I'll just let it slide today. I better let you rest then. Take good care of yourself," Mrs Reynolds said as she patted me on the shoulder and made her way downstairs.
I nodded and continued to walk up to the apartment.
I took the key from the potted plant where I always kept the key in case Louisa came back before me.
Entering the apartment, I flung my bag onto the couch nearby collapsed on the floor, and broke down in tears.
I didn't know if I was crying because of my pregnancy at the sound of my baby's heartbeat I heard at the hospital or the fact that I was going to raise my baby without a father.
"Honey, I'm home!" announced Louisa as she came in through the front door.
She spotted me sobbing on the floor and quickly knelt down beside me.
"Hey, hey. What is going on? Why are you crying?" she asked in panic.
"Lou, what am I going to do? I'm pregnant. Almost done with my first trimester and my baby doesn't have a father. How could I be so stupid Lou? How will I raise my baby alone?" I sobbed.
"What did I tell you this morning sweetie? I said that whatever the outcome, we will handle it together. You are not alone. I'm here and whatever you decide to do, I'm going to support you all the way. Please stop crying," Louisa pleaded as she cleaned her tears.
"But Lou…."
"Shiiiii, it's alright. Everything is going to be fine. Let's get you cleaned up okay?" Lou said as she helped me get up from the floor.
I stood up with Lou's help walked to the bathroom and washed my face.
I walked into her bedroom and put on my Hello Kitty PJs which I was always very comfortable in.
I looked at myself in the mirror imagining what I was going to look like with a baby bump.
It was going to be okay, I thought. I have Lou so I am not alone.
"Angela, the American Idol is on. It's the season finale. Come on," Lou said from the living room.
Grabbing a tub of ice cream from the fridge and two spoons from the counter, I settled down on the couch with Lou to watch our favorite show.
"I don't know why you refused to go on the show. You have an amazing voice and you play the piano really well. You can make us rich Ang," Lou said as she scooped some ice cream into her mouth.
I just rolled my eyes at her friend and continued watching the show.
"On tonight's show, we are proud to unveil one of our sponsors. Ladies and gentlemen, please put your hands together for the CEO of the Marcello group of companies, Carlos Marcello,"
I gasped at the sight of the man who came onto the screen.
It was the stranger from last night. He had a face I could never forget.
"I know him," I screamed as I pointed at the TV screen.
"You know who?" Lou asked absentmindedly as she scrolled through her phone.
"Him Lou," I replied still pointing at the man who popped up on the TV screen.
"You can't be serious babes, do you know who that is?" Lou asked.
"I need you to trust me, Lou. I know him. He was the stranger at the club,"
"What?" Lou asked in surprise as she stood up.
"That's Carlos Marcello. The number one businessman in all of New York and most importantly, my boss!" Lou exclaimed.
And that was when reality hit me like a truck made of bricks.
A multi-freaking billionaire is my baby's father.
"Lou, I need you to trust me. He was the guy from the club. He took me to his penthouse and everything," I replied as I held my head in my hands.
"Wait a minute, you never said anything about a penthouse. He took you to his penthouse?!!!!," Lou asked in surprise almost yelling.
"Well yeah, and now I'm carrying a child which is his,” I groaned.
"You need to tell him," Lou said.
"How? I can't just waltz into his office and be like; hey, I'm the girl you met at the club three months ago and I am pregnant with your child. I'm going to look like a gold-digger who made up a lie to get money out of him. He is obviously going to deny this child. I can barely take care of myself as it is with my stupid waitress job.
Besides, I'm sure he has a lot of security at this office. They'll probably throw me out before I am able to utter a single word. My child is going to grow up without a father and I have to work like 100 shifts to take care of my baby," I cried.
"Hey, hey, I've got you," Lou said as she hugged me.
"I have an idea," Lou said suddenly.
"Okay," I replied as I sniffled her nose.
"You know I work as a receptionist in his company. All you have to do is show up tomorrow and I'll send you up to his office," Lou replied.
"Really?" I asked.
"Won't you get in trouble?"
"Don't worry about that. Your baby deserves to have his or her father's name. We will make sure he takes responsibility for this pregnancy Okay?"Lou said as she patted my back still locked in the hug.
I nodded and hugged her back as I wondered what I had done to deserve such a supportive friend like Lou.
"Come on, let's get you to bed, you have had a long day mama,"
"Mama?" I asked with a little smile on her face.
"Well yeah, you're a mama now," Lou teased.
I threw her head back and let out a loud laugh.
"You really are something Lou," I replied.
"I know. Now come on, we have a big day tomorrow," Lou said as dragged me into my room.
We both walked to my room with Lou leading the way.
Getting to the room, I lay on the bed and faced the ceiling as I wondered how tomorrow was going to turn out.
"I know that look. Stop overthinking, everything is going to be fine. Good night sweetheart," Lou said as she turned off the lights and made to leave for her room.
"Wait," I called out.
"Can you sleep with me tonight?" I asked.
"Oh honey, I don't swing that way but I'll be happy to make an exception for you anytime," Lou teased as she wiggled her eyebrows.
"Get your mind out of the gutter. I just don't want to sleep alone tonight," I replied while chuckling.
"Fine, scootch over," Lou said as she made her way to my bed.
"Do you think he'll accept this baby?" I asked.
Turning to her friend, Lou let out a loud sigh.
"He'll be crazy not to,"
