Shane:
-Alpha Shane
Welcome to the real world. Now that you have revealed your beautiful mate to the world. We gladly thank you for showing us the one thing that can help us retrieve our packs and restore the balance you solely destroyed.
Aren Glass is only guilty of being the mate of a monster who has taken so much from our kind. I did say you will one day pay for all of the murders you committed in your four years of reign. Your time has come.
~The Rogue Ry.
"When did this come in?" I asked Aaron.
"This morning," he answered worry in his eyes.
"Aren went for a run this morning," I said calmly trying not to think of what might have happened if she had been spotted.
"Shane, we have to get her guards. She can't be out there all alone. This rogue is dangerous,"
"I know that. This isn't the first time that f*****g rogue has threatened us,"
"You have to tell her. We can't just put Aren on lockdown without an explanation. She'll fight it,"
"I'm taking her to breakfast. Have Asher and Richard get ready to stay with us. I'll tell her there," Aaron nodded.
Twelve hours. Twelve f*****g hours was all I got before the threats on my mate began. f**k, it's like the universe is against me being happy. I really hope Aren isn't going to make this more complicated than it should be. She's already started to say no to anything I say just to mess with me.
"Lambie, I need you to be on alert. Marie, I need you to find out why. Keep this from Gary. I don't want her stressed out about this," Aren was telling the two other girls in her band as she walked down the stairs with them flanking behind her. Three of them wore the same serious expression.
"Something going on?" I asked.
"Not really, I just feel... we're new here. Precautions. I'm ready," she smiled.
I looked her over. Grey shorts, fitted purple v-neck, grey, and purple Toms, hair wet and tousled pinned back with a giant purple bow. She dresses like perky skater girl.
"You look beautiful," I said. The two other girls snickered.
"Thank you. You two are excused," she told them glancing over her shoulder. They ran up the stairs.
I offered her my hand to take. She hesitated for a second, but then she put her hand in mine making me and my wolf beam. For some reason, I feel like she's going to fight this. Like at any moment she might turn around and bolt taking my soul with her. It's her demeanor. How she kind of looks around without actually paying attention, without letting the scenery catch her attention.
"Alpha, your car is secure. We are ready to go," Asher said walking in behind us. Aren looked up at me with curiosity.
"Is something wrong?" she asked.
"I'll tell you at breakfast. It's nothing you need to worry your self with. I can handle it," she took in a deep breath and slowly let it out as we got in the car.
As we arrived at the restaurant she looked around on high alert. Can she feel that she's in danger? I took her hand and pulled her close to me trying to ease the tension. She looked down at them before she let out a heavy sigh.
"Aren, everything is fine," I said.
She looked around one last time and gave me a simple nod. The worried shade in her green eyes told me she felt like she's in danger and not just that, I can feel her wolf on high alert as well. The strength of her is unexpected.
"Where were you established before you stopped here in Tennessee?" she asked trying to ease her tension. I smiled glad to distract her.
"New Orleans," her eyes met mine as she put down her menu.
"Were you part of Alpha Jeremiah's pack?" She asked.
"Sort of, my dad was his Alpha. When my dad met my stepmother her pack was in need of a better Alpha. Someone took care of him before my dad could challenge him. We moved out this way because our pack was too big to keep in one area. When we moved here three years ago, I met your brother. He told me the situation and about the territory being unclaimed here. So, we got together to keep it. The wolves in the area joined shortly after,"
"How did Jeremiah become Alpha?"
"My father gave him the title of that region. We don't really go that way, it's his. My father trusted it to him,"
"Do you trust him?" she asked.
"Yeah, he's my uncle. How do you know him?" I asked.
"Can I take y'all orders, sugas," the waitress interrupted us. Aren looked up. "Oh, my lord. Did you know you're Aren Glass, sweet pea?"
"Not really, but I had my suspicions," Aren laughed the waitress joined her. "Can I have your dirty breakfast with a side of blueberry pancakes, and a tall glass of cold milk,"
"That's a lot of grub, little lady," the waitress said but wrote it down anyway.
"Yeah, I like to eat," Aren smiled.
"How would you like your eggs,"
"Sunnyside up a little undercooked,"
"For you sir," she said still looking at Aren.
"I'll have the same thing I prefer orange juice and my eggs scrambled,"
"Sure thing suga. I'll be right out with your orders,"
"Hey, do you guys have yogurt?" Aren asked before she left.
"Yes, Ms. Glass. We have plain yogurt on strawberries, blueberries, and honey gram crackers,"
"I'll start with that," Aren said.
"You do know this is Tennessee. They serve enough for three people a plate here," I laughed when the woman left.
"I like her. She kept her eyes on me the entire time," Aren smiled and waved behind me. I turned just in time to see most of the staff run and get back to work. I had to laugh.
"So are you going to tell me how you know Jeremiah?"
"Yeah, I played in his territory last year and last month. His son Jacob tried to get me to join their pack. He had a thing for Marie," she laughed like it was a constant occurrence. "New Orleans was one of my favorite places to stop. I want to take Ana and Aaron there. With your blessing of course," The waitress returned and put a sundae glass filled with fruits and yogurt.
"Anything else?"
"No, thanks, I'm good," the woman glanced at me.
"We're fine. Thank you," I assured her.
"Alpha Shane. Pardon me I didn't notice you there," Aren laughed.
"It's fine," I said with a smile.
"Excuse me," she said. Her face reddened as she quickly walked away.
"Definitely tipping her,"
"So, you like the attention," she continued eating her yogurt.
"This is really good. Want some?" She asked licking her lips changing the subject. This girl is going to drive me insane.
"No, thank you," I laughed.
"So, what's with the guards?"
"Aren. I don't want you to freak out,"
"s**t. Tell me," she said without looking up at me, but still getting serious.
"I received a letter this morning. That kiss outside the stadium. Everyone knows you're my mate. You're being threatened. There's a hit on you're head. A rogue named Ry sent the letter,"
"The Rogue Ry sent the letter? You're sure?" she asked with a smirk on her face.
"Yes, that's what the letter was signed," I said unsurely now with that expression on her face.
"Did it say why they want me?"
"I'm the strongest Alpha in North America, Aren. Wolves want what I've fought for,"
"Tell me something, Shane. Why did you take over so much territory? You ended a lot of lives. A lot of people call you a murderer,"
"I didn't do it for the power of that's what you're implying. I did it because I had to save those packs. Most of the packs I took over had no real leadership. They were falling apart. I don't take pleasure in killing. I want to protect as many wolves as I can. They can call me what they want. Not one member of my pack would complain about what I've done," she smiled looking satisfied with my answer.
"Good. Shane, that's something we have in common then. I know about the hit on my head. There's one on yours too. I didn't know Ry was the one who was going to carry it out though," that took me by total surprise. I had expected her to say a lot of things, but not that.
"What do you mean you know? How do you know?"
"Shane, you might be a very powerful Alpha, but I have friends all over the world. I've pulled a few strings for many people. Nothing in the wolf world happens without one of us finding out. I even know a few fangers who would be interested in keeping me alive,"
Aren:
The look on his face told me I said too much. I swear I probably sounded like some kind of mob sweety or something. That would be kind of cool but I'm not. I'm a rogue. Doing things under the table is what I do and up until now, I've been completely under the radar.
~Lambie, get Marie back to New Orleans. I want eyes on Jeremiah~
~What you find Alpha?~
~Jeremiah isn't born to power. It's granted, he answers to Shane. He sent a fake letter to Shane saying Ry is going to get me~
~You didn't tell him why that's impossible right?~
~Of course not. I'm going to let him believe Ry is after me. Get Marie out there. I'll send in back up once you get there~
~Yes, Alpha, be careful. I here The Rogue Ry is a crazy b***h~
~She is but I got her on a really flashy leash~
"You look like you want to say something," I told Shane.
"Here you are,"
The waitress returned setting our food on the table. She continued to smile at me. I have to admit I'm used to the attention, but I sort of expected Shane to take some of the spotlight. She left without that hospitality from earlier. She looked back with a sad look on her face. That's all I needed to know that our food isn't edible.
"Don't eat that," I said. Shane looked up and took a deep breath.
"What is that?" he asked getting the same smell I was.
"I think it's Arsenic. Someone's already here," It was a shame because all the food smells really good. Looks even better. "Hey, can I get some ketchup and syrup,"
"What are you doing?" Shane asked. The woman was shoved out of the kitchen. I stood up and walked up to her. She forced a smile and handed me the two bottles.
"Stay here," I said. She grabbed my arm and shook her head.
"Just leave," she whispered.
"Man or woman?"
"Two men,"
"Thanks, everything looks amazing," I said and walked back to our table.
"What is it?" Shane asked.
"Have your fighters go towards the back. She said there are only two men. f*****g insulting," I growled.
"I'm going to kill them," he said completely serious.
"No, Shane I need to know who sent them," I sighed. "I guess we're off to a complicated start,"
"Aren, I'm so sorry. I'll make this right," I put my hand in his.
We're going to have to tell him the truth Aren. This isn't just going to be about him. We have enemies as well. They'll come after the pack eventually. Cali said.
She's right. I knew we would eventually have to tell him and it looks like it will be sooner than I expected.
"They're in the back. Let's do this," he said.
He stood up and pulled me close to him as we made our way to the kitchen door. I liked that he didn't tell me to stay put. That gains him several points in my book. He counted to three on his fingers before kicking the door open. One guy pointed a gun at his guards and the other pointed one at us.
"Ivan and Louie," I said meeting their eyes. "It's a little hot here for you two isn't it?"
"The warmth suites you Ms. Glass," Ivan said. "Its been a while since we met you back in Russia,"
"Yeah, it has,"
"You should have stayed in our pack," Louie added.
"That's a little selfish, no? You have a mate I didn't. I do now,"
"Not him," Louie said. Their Russian accents have always been really attractive. The sound of their deep vodka rugged voices had done it for me when I was there. We had a really big party when we were there.
"Yes, him. Tell Dmitri where I stand. That I'm highly insulted that he only sent you two,"
"Ms. Glass he only needs us two," Ivan laughed. I jumped up kicking the gun out of his hand and shoved him towards Shane who grabbed him and slammed him into the floor. I put the gun to Louie's head.
"Maybe, you've confused me for someone else. Like I said. Highly insulting. Drop the gun Louie,"
"I can shoot your guards," he chuckled.
"Or I can spray them with your brains,"
"You do that?"
"Would you shoot them?"
"Da,"
"I'd kill you then,"
"You do not know them,"
"It doesn't matter. They're wolves just like us. They don't deserve to die. Neither do you. Drop the gun and I'll make the call," he let the gun go. "Can one of you please pick that up?"
"Asher, get the gun," Shane demanded. The tallest guard leaned down slowly and picked up the gun. He slightly jumped when Ivan's phone went off.
"Umm, maybe I should take that Asher," I said motioning him to hand the gun over he handed it over to me letting out a sigh. I put the safety on and tucked it into the back of my shorts.
"Back pocket," Ivan said. I pulled the phone out and answered it.
"Is it done?" Demitri asked in Russian.
"Two men, Dimka?" I asked.
"Aren, my dear," he sighed. "Your Russian has improved,"
"Not cool,"
"You should have stayed at my side as my Luna,"
"I don't like the cold. I can't wear shorts when it's cold," Ivan chuckled.
"Is it true? Is Shane Blake your true mate?"
"He's my mate, Demitri," Shane smiled at me.
"I see, then, my apologies. Can't help the jealousy of seeing you display him on the television. I thought it was a show,"
"It was. I'm going to need some help. You owe me,"
"Keep the boys then," he said and hung up.
"He kicked us," Louie whispered looking at me before letting his head fall back.
"Aren, what are we doing?" Shane asked.
"How forgiving are you?" I asked.
"I'm listening,"
"Russian's don't like it when they're players fail. These two are dead if we send them back,"
"Brush up on your English, guys. You're on probation," he said releasing Ivan.
"Thanks, slick," I sighed letting Louie up.
Mate is merciful. Cali acknowledged as we looked around the room. I sure hope so.
