Aren:     I'm up and it's five in the morning. Which is usually the time I wake up for a run. It has to be an alpha thing. Or maybe not, because Shane is still asleep. I laughed seeing him almost falling off the side of the bed. I shut the door to his room after lifting him onto his pillows, which was not an easy task. The guy weighs a ton.      I laughed going back to my room to change into something I can workout comfortably in. I put on my workout playlist and headed out for a run and a little sightseeing. There are a handful of morning people already working in the kitchen. They all waved at me as I walked by. I greeted them before heading out.      Running always clears my head. It made me truly feel free. All my truths left me for an instant allowing me to gather what bit of sanity I have left. It's just me and the air blowing against me. The slight liberation is always comforting and it reminds me that it's not always going to be bad.      I ran all the way to my parent's house. The guilt started building up in me and my wolf. I've been dreading coming back here for five years. I had needed to leave this place since the night my parents died. Eight years no and these feelings still linger inside of me just as prominent as it's always been. Maybe even a little stronger now seeing it abandoned like this.      I thought I had been spared of the memories only to have them all open up when my wolf reached the first stages of maturity at age fifteen. It was like a box in my mind opened up and the memories of what happened that night all fit into the blank spaces. There was no denying what I did. I can see it as clear as day most nights. The dreams keep me up sometimes.     Leaving was the only thing I could think of that would allow me to forget, but I was so wrong. The problem isn't where I am. I'm my problem, who I am is what haunts me. These urges to protect at any cost. It consumes me. Sometimes I wish I can walk away but this gets the better of me and it's only gotten stronger over the years.  I was brought out of my thoughts by the ringing in my ears. I should have used my iPod for my run.     "Aren," I answered immediately regretting it. My voice broke and I felt a few warm tears slide down my face instantly getting cold with the morning breeze.     "Aren, are you crying?" Gary's worried voice made me smile.     "No, I'm running. Catching my breath," I lied coolly.     "Oh, dude the alpha is up and is pissing bricks cause you're not, like, here. What's up with that?" I rolled my eyes taking in my surroundings.      "Gary, Shane is my mate. I found that out last night after the show. After you guys were escorted out,"     "Ahhhhhhhh!" She screamed I had to take my earbuds out of my ears and even then my ears rang with the pitch of her voice. I unplugged them and put her on speaker trying to stop the ringing by.     "Oh, my sweet mother of Jesus. Finally. I'm so happy for you. Ahhhhhhh! Hurry up before he bursts a f*****g vein Aren,"     "I'm on my way," I laughed.     "I want to run," my wolf bounced around the corners of my subconscious excitedly with the mention of her mate. I went inside my parent's house trying not take in the familiar scents or furniture.      I went straight for my room grabbed a backpack and undressed putting all my belongings into it. It's been about seven months since Cali has wanted out. The shift hurt us both. Not as painful as that first time when I was ten. I had shifted earlier than a usual pup would have. Shaking my thoughts, I barged out of the house after locking up. This walk down memory lane isn't something I want to continue.     My wolf ran like she had never run before. Excited to see our mate. As we took in the familiar surroundings, I realized that I missed this place. I want to get reacquainted with everything again. I need to make sure it's safe for not only me but my girls. I'm sure Shane has everything in order especially with Aaron and his extreme OCD on his side. I chose him carefully for this job, but I'm not takings chances on having my girls or any other wolf for that matter be mistreated or abused.     "Where were you?" someone shouted as I walked up to the packhouse pulling on my grey and yellow Nike running shoes. I looked up to see Shane dressed in shorts and no shirt.     "Go put a shirt on Shane," I said calmly.     "You go put a shirt on Aren," he shot back. I have to admit I set myself up for that one. I smiled shaking it off.     "Tell you what. I don't care if you walk around like that if you don't mind me. I believe it's called a compromise,"     "You didn't answer my question,"     "I woke up at five, Shane. You know the time you're supposed to up by. I went for a run. Scoped out the area. Let Cali get familiar with the place,"     "You could have woken me up for that. I can show you around,"     "I don't do wake up calls or ask permission to go out. The sooner you learn that the faster we'll get along," I stepped back so that I can finally take him in. He's just as tall as Aaron. Tanned creamy skin wrapped tightly around his thickly muscled well-kept body.  I can yum. my wolf said remembering what Marie had said last night.     I looked up at his face. Full dark pink lips, cute button nose, nicely chiseled bone structure, thickly eye lashed big beautiful grayish blue eyes, his hair looks black, but that's because he has it cut in a fade. The man is godly.      "What are you doing?" he asked looking me over.     "Nothing. Just sizing you up. I can easily kick your ass," I went past him into the house leaving him dumbstruck.     "Aren," Gary shouted as soon as I entered the threshold. She jumped on me. I easily caught her.     "Gary, don't do that. You could have hurt your pup," I said pulling away from her a little.     "Dude, you're more overprotective than me and Andy," she laughed.     "Baby, she's right though. You have to be more careful," Andy scolded behind her.     "Hey, man. I didn't see you there. When did you get back?" I asked fist bumping him.     "I saw you run off. I called out, but you had the music in," he smiled and hugged me. Shane growled at us.     "Don't mind him he's being an i***t," I said. He growled again and I have to say that I kind of like it. Well, I don't kind of like it. I like it a lot.     "Garena, we should get you upstairs to rest, baby. You're still weak from yesterday," Andy said turning to his mate.     "You're going to make me walk up the stairs?" she complained.     "Of course not, baby, that would be rude," he said scooping her up into his arms. She giggled like a school girl madly in love. I love that she's finally happy. I love that he could do that for her. My best friend deserves that and so much more.     "Alpha,"     "Go ahead," Shane said.     "I'm sorry Alpha Shane, but I was speaking to my alpha, Aren," I couldn't help my gloating smile. He looked at me confused.     "Go ahead, Andrew. Make sure she's comfortable," he nodded.     "Aren, you have to come to my room so we can talk about the dinosaur in the room," Gary laughed.     "Don't you mean elephant?"     "Sweetheart no. I would say ephalent if it were like a lawyer and you were being sued. That's a dinosaur," I chuckled at her logic watching as she wiggled around making Andy's job a lot harder than it should be as he carried her up the stairs.     "Get some rest, Gary,"     "I love you Aren Glass. You're my favorite," she shouted.     "I love you too, Gary," I sighed.     "No, no, no, no, no. I'm you're favorite," Lambie shouted from somewhere upstairs.     "Hell no, you bitches be Trippin. I'm Aren's favorite," Marie laughed walking in from behind me.     "Both you bitches are Trippin I'm Aren's favorite," Gary growled.     "You're all my favorite," I said shaking my head. They're energetic this morning. It's been a while since we went to bed in one place and woke up there.     "No, Gary is your favorite right now cause she's uploading a pup in her tummy," Lambie said. We all burst out laughing.     "Uploading a pup," Andy said. "I like that,"     "Get some rest guys we have a press day tomorrow,"     "Yes, Alpha," the four of them saluted playfully and laughed before they disappeared.     "Why do they call you Alpha?" Shane asked. He didn't sound so upset anymore.     "That's what I am to them. We all have our story. We all have our hero. In their cases that would be me,"     "Would you like to have breakfast with me?" he blurted out nervously making me smile. He gets nervous. Noted.     "Here?" he shook his head. "Can I shower and change then?"     "Yeah, I have to do that asuh,"     "Do you mean also?" I laughed when he mumbled that last word.     "That's what I said," I laughed it wasn't the first time he babbled or slipped a word. I did it too, but I'm sure he never caught it and if he did. He kept it to himself.     "Alpha, there's a... uh you have important mail," Aaron said coming out from what I'm guessing is Shane's study. He's in beta mode. My phone went off just as the two of them looked over at me.     "I'll go take care of this," Shane said pointing at my brother. I nodded looking down at my phone. Private number.      "Who is this?" I answered once they disappeared.      "Is this Ry?" A man's voice asked. Ry is the fake rogue name I use.     "This is she," I said going up to my room.     "This is Alpha Jeremiah. I have a job for you," Alpha Jeremiah is one of the alpha's I've met as myself. His territory is in New Orleans. He's under Shane's rule.     "Send me the information. If I decide to accept the job I will contact you,"     "How?"     "You called private, however, I already know your location and number. New Orleans is a beautiful place to live in Alpha," I said and hung up. I looked back towards Shane's room before going into my own. Interesting morning we're having already.
