Ivan’s pov

I sigh heavily and look at Cora sleeping in my arms and smile sadly.

She's very tired and feel asleep a while ago and I decided with Leo not to wake her up, she needs a little rest.

Until now no doctor has come to tell us something about Noah and I am freaking out here…

When Cora brought him in, his condition was critical, he didn't look well for the seconds I saw him and I can't hide that I'm worried about him. I know that I shouldn't have been worried about him living or dying or maybe I should want him to die but I can't say that. It is unfair, it is inhumane and who am I to wish something like this for someone else?

I know that what he had been doing to Cora should be enough for me to wish him the worst but his ‘loss’ is going to cause her pain and I love her so… I just hope he survives because I don’t want Cora to suffer more, we need some peace and no more tragedies!

I am trying to stay strong for Cora and everyone else these last hours but to be honest I am not sure I will be able to act like that for too long. From last night I am doing my best to seem calm and not show how worried and frustrated I am but I feel like my psychological strength and patience are leaving me gradually and in the end I am going to explode.

There are so many things that have been happening to us these last days and the main target is Cora and you have no idea how much this is freaking me out!

Someone wants to hurt my woman and not being able to know who is that son of a b***h is driving me crazy!

First were Natalie and the note, then me (fortunately because I wouldn’t have made it if it was Cora or anyone else in my place), then Noah and now…

Caleb?

I can’t lie, at the beginning, I mean about two hours ago I thought for a second that maybe Caleb is behind some of all these incidents but I changed my mind immediately because I can see what a great man he is and how much he loves Cora and his sons and then with Alena…

I got sure that he can’t have done such a thing and s**t!

I had realized nothing and I don’t know how!

I was spending time with both of them, they were acting so discreetly that none of us got suspicious and if you ask me I am sure that Sebastian knew about it but he had been helping them till now. They wanted to hide it from us and I think I know the reason but I don’t agree with them.

Both of them feel bad and it’s awkward because they loved their mates very much and also they don’t know how to deal with it because of Cora and Noah’s past, they don’t want to make things more complicated than they already are.

Alright, I understand them at some point but for me these two need to find happiness and love again and I actually like them together very much!

They are so appropriate, royal, imposing, strong yet discreet personalities with kindness, generosity and sympathy, they are full of love for their people and they feel no fear.

Alena is like a mother for me, she has helped me more than anyone else and I want her happy. Caleb from the other hand is a decent man, I like him even though he is Noah’s father, he has nothing to do with his son and I am sure he can make her happy!

“Ivan?” Leo whispers making me snap my head to him worried.

He has been crying from the moment Alena told us that Caleb is in pain, he is scared like all of us and he is his son so it’s worse for him especially with Noah fighting for his life.

“What is it? How do you feel?” I ask him in sympathy and he sighs wiping some tears from his eyes.

“I can’t do it anymore! I am dying here! What if I lose them?” he asks trembling and I do my best to stay calm and help him even a bit.

I can say I feel great with him from the first moment I met him! We could be very close friends in the end, he is a nice and very sweet man with grace and wisdom! I can’t see him so broken!

“I want you to calm down and think positively! Noah is strong, Cora brought him here and he is going to be fine! From the moment he managed to make it till here then there is no way to leave us now and as for your father… He is such an amazing man that there is no way for him to have an unfair end like this and Alena with the others is going to find him! She is not a simple lycanthrope Leo, her senses and abilities are way stronger than the usual! I assure you, he will be here soon!” I say with confidence and he stands up and walks to me and Cora that is still sleeping.

He sits next to me and with my one hand I tap his knee and smile while he stiffens and shakes his head nervously.

I hope the others find Caleb soon because between us even I am worried no matter what I just said to Leo.

After Alena told us that they are mates and he is in danger Sebastian rushed to leave and go to find him with Owen, Jose, Chloe and Mischa but Alena, Cora and Leo wanted to join them (okay, I also wanted to go but Cora almost killed me so I stepped back) and I am happy to say that Sebastian took full control over the situation and saved us all!

He agreed Alena to join them because of her bond with Caleb as she is going to be able to find him easier than anyone else but he denied allowing Cora and Leo to go because their condition is not so good and also because Noah surely needs Leo and Cora here with him but…

What you don’t know is that Adrian, George and Amanda are also with them with some men in order to help even more! Adrian was informed about everything and he is Caleb’s king and Alena’s friend like George and Amanda that couldn’t leave her alone in a time like this!

So they all left, Rosana went to check on Natalie and little Cora after she got sure that Camilla won’t try to come here again and I couldn’t go and help the others find Caleb for obvious reasons considering what happened to me yesterday and I stayed here with Cora and Leo.

The more time we stay here with no news the more my fear grows bigger and Vital is doing his best to help me but the fact that he keeps on moving in my head in impatience has exact the opposite results! I am nervous and in tension and I have to admit I am getting panicked gradually.

What are these doctors doing and…

Have the others found Caleb?

~at the same time, forest, some kilometers from the city~

Sebastian’s pov

We keep on running nonstop with Alena and Jose heading to the mountains behind the lake Cora had gone to meet with Noah and I can’t stop my heart from aching.

Feeling Cora is pain killed me at first and especially last night that Ivan was fighting for his life. I know my daughter even if this is the first time I am spending time with her. She has an amazing heart just like her mother and if I may say her aunt as well but she is also strong, fearless and under the right circumstances sensitive.

And the last days she is sensitive and in pain and this is breaking my heart!

Knowing that my daughter is in danger and pain is something I can’t deal with so easily and after the last incidents today things get even worse and tougher!

I have no idea who is or are behind all these but I know what is going to happen once I find out everything because believe me I am going to find him or them and I will send them to hell and even further away!

I knew from the beginning that nothing was a coincidence, even Natalie’s poisoning was something too strange for me and it is confirmed that I am right and moreover Cora is in danger with all of us being possible targets in order to weaken her but…

What I can’t get is what happened with Noah and Caleb… I mean…

Shit, I don’t know anymore!

“Alena are you sure that you are right?” Jose asks her through our link breathless bringing me back to reality.

“Don’t ask me again!” she shouts outraged and he turns and gives me a nervous look.

I just look at him strictly running out of patience and he turns again in front of him.

He had already asked her three times and this was the forth one! I had told him not to bother her all the time because I know she is freaking out, her nerves are a mess and she is not able to control her temper but he didn’t listen to me.

I feel how scared Alena is and I am concerned about her as well!

I am the first that knew about her and Caleb because she told me and asked for my help! She feels comfortable with me for a weird reason as until some days ago she hated me but now I am happy to say that we are very close and she trusts me. I had been helping her and Caleb hide it all these days, Alena confessed to me that she is not sure about them because of Noah being Caleb’s son but I didn’t tell him because Caleb believes that they are in a very good path and they just need some time until they tell everyone! Alena asked me not to tell him a thing about her thoughts because I guess she was not sure and if I am right after this incident she won’t manage to stay away from him from now on.

They are mates, she can’t do this, he is in danger and she has lost her mind! It’s the first time she is acting like this, I have never seen her so scared and desperate and I feel sorry for her! She deserves happiness and so does Caleb!

We continue running and running and running towards following Alena blindly and till now we have no news from the other teams as Owen is with Chloe and Mischa and Adrian with George and Amanda. There are also some more teams as Adrian ordered some of his best trackers to help but I am sure they have found nothing till this moment!

We run for some more time, we have passed the lake, we have seen Caleb’s car totally burned and we are about to get deeper in the forest being extremely close to the mountains when Alena stops abruptly and looks around her in frustration.

I stop next to her and take some deep, long breaths trying to take any useful, familiar or abnormal scent and it doesn’t take me long to make it…

“Petrol!” I murmur through our link and Alena starts running again to our right.

“s**t!” Jose screams as we start following her and I sigh frustrated.

I run behind Alena and after about two minutes we slow down reaching a small glade in the middle of the woods.

“CALEB!” Alena roars and I snap my head to the direction she is staring at to see…

Noah’s car crashed on a tree and Caleb lying on the ground pinioned without his consciousness some meters away from the car but…

He has no blood on him!

“Caleb?!” Jose murmurs a bit dizzy yet relieved that we found him and runs to him with Alena mimicking him.

They reach him and after some seconds I am standing next to them above him and fortunately I listen to his heartbeat strong and steady and I sigh grateful while Alena leans closer to him and smells him more carefully purring.

I guess he is fine but what happened to him?

His hands and legs are tied up, his mouth is covered and I smell nothing strange or dangerous like silver or wolfsbane.

“I am going to shift! Sebastian, can you please tell the others that we found him and where we are? I want a car to take us back and at least one doctor! Inform Adrian!” Alena states dragging me from my thoughts and I nod immediately.

She walks quickly behind a tree to shift and get dressed and Jose gets ready as it’s his turn later while I open my link with everyone else and call them.

“Dad? Did you find him?” Owen asks immediately worried.

“Yes! He doesn’t seem to have any problem but he is unconscious. Adrian, Alena wants a car! We are some minutes after the lake in the woods but from what I can see there is a small sandy path from which the car can come to us. If you don’t find the way then tell me to bring him at the lake!” I say in hurry and they all groan in understanding.

“I will Sebastian! I am telling my men right now!” Adrian replies and with this we close our link and Alena walks to us from the tree she had gone fully dressed with a pair of dark blue jeans, a black top and her long dark cherish hair free in big curls.

It’s the first time she is so simple and I have to say that she looks much younger than her real age. She looks like Cora very much anyway, she is a beautiful woman but the thing that gains my full interest is her eyes…

They are filled with tears and the pain is more than obvious!

Jose goes behind a tree to do the same thing with the clothes he has tied up around his leg and Alena kneels next to Caleb, unties him and in the end remove the piece of fabric that is keeping his mouth closed. Next she takes him in her arms, places his head on her knees and leans to kiss his forehead sniffling while caressing his hair with shaking hands.

“I am sorry…” she whispers breathless and kisses his forehead again.

“Alena…” I whisper and she turns and looks up to me while some first tears fall from her eyes.

“Don’t reject him!” I state seriously and she nods ready to break into crying.

“Thank you Sebastian, for everything!” she replies with trembling voice and raises her one hand to caress my fur.

”Sebastian, you can go and shift as well!” Jose says walking again back to us in his human form and I do as he says after I give one last look at Alena and Caleb.

I walk behind a tree, shift and once I am done I put on some black jeans and sigh running my hand through my hair.

I take one moment to clear my mind, relax my muscles that are tensed and shake my head in frustration.

At least Caleb seems to be out of danger and we don’t have to worry about him but…

Something feels way too wrong here, his car can’t have been crashed on a tree by him because he couldn’t have been able to do that in the condition we found him.

I take one last deep breath and go again back to the others. Alena is at the same position I had left her with Caleb but Jose is walking to the car troubled.

“Someone must have brought him here…” I say looking around me at straight at the sandy path that has trails of a car.

“But what if he was here when the accident happened and then took him out of the car and tied him up?” he asks thoughtfully and opens the driver’s door looking inside it.

“I think Sebastian is right… There was no reason for Caleb to be here! It’s too far away from the place Cora had gone to meet Noah and it’s pointless for someone to come so deep inside the forest. The city is from the other side of the lake, he wouldn’t want to lose time and come here! It makes no sense!” Alena says thoughtfully lifting up her head and looking at us.

“Can you please see if his phone is in his pockets?” I ask her walking to Jose with a weird feeling building up and she nods quickly remembering what Cora told us about his messages and the fact that he wasn’t answering her calls.

“Something in here smells weird… It’s not only Caleb’s or even Noah’s scent for sure and I can assure you that it’s Noah’s as well because he always leaves a jacket at the back seat of his car. He had it when we came to the palace.” Jose says and I finally reach him but I walk at the front of her car that is crashed on a big old oak tree.

I kneel down and look at the ground, I have been smelling petrol but now it’s stronger and I see the reason immediately.

“This is not normal…” I murmur frustrated.

“The phone is not in his pockets! Is it in his car?” Alena asks worried.

“Um… No! From what I see here it’s not in here or in the small cupboard…” Jose replies and I stand up narrowing my eyes confused.

“I don’t get it!” I say through my teeth and walk next to Jose that looks at me confused.

“What is it?”

“There is petrol’s leakage, the car’s engine is fuming a bit, it’s warm but no explosion happened… Like…”

“Caleb!” Alena exclaims making me jump up and I turn to see him moving and opening his eyes slowly.

Thanks Goddess!

“Are you alright? How do you feel? What happened to you?” she asks him in hurry and I run to them breathless.

“Ugh… What… Cora, Noah…” he whispers trying to move but Alena stops him and I kneel next to them ready to start crying touched.

Alright, he is awake, we can calm down now!

“Don’t worry about it now!” I say and force a smile.

“What happened to you? Who did this? Are you alright?” Alena asks again trembling panicked while Jose leans his back on the car relieved crying that Caleb is fine.

This boy loves him very much, it’s like Caleb is his father and I know their story but I guess it’s not time to remember it!

“Shh… I am not leaving you, don’t worry, I am just dizzy…” Caleb whispers taking Alena’s hand in his and she kisses his forehead again ready to burst into screams.

“You scared me till death! Don’t do this again, don’t leave my side! I can’t lose you too now that I found you!” she mutters and he smiles warmly as some tears fall from her eyes on his cheeks.

“Oh God!” Jose says through his sobs gasping for air while trying to stand on his feet properly and I stand up again to go and help him.

He is going to collapse!

“Jose?” Caleb exclaims worried and tries to sit up but for once more Alena stops him.

“Calm down! He is here but he is supporting himself on the car and…”

“NO!” Caleb screams cutting me off and I look at the car as I put all the pieces together instinctually.

Petrol, crash, vapors, hot engine, no fire till now…

“s**t!” I roar and run to Jose that is still lost unable to stand on his feet yet.

“What is happening?” Alena screams panicked.

“They did it! They directed it!” Caleb shouts as I reach Jose and grab him shaking.

“Did what?” Alena asks again frustrated and for a second there is an absolute silence that helps me listen to the low, discreet noise.

“THERE IS A BOMB!”

I am back with the 22th chapter in about four days since the last update and yes, the chapters in this book are never going to end peacefully!

I am a true demon, aren't I?

Well let's take it one by one now!

There is a new book!
