Four

The second I got back to the packhouse the alarm started to sound everyone was rushing around in a wave of panic. When the pack alarm sounds it is a signal that rogues have entered our borders and we need to act fast to keep safe. Alpha Morgan and the warriors are already leaving to assess the situation while Luna is ushering everyone else to rush to the pack secure unit. It is a big lock up under ground for us to hide until it is safe. By that I mean the ones who can’t fight. I wish so hard that I could go out and protect my pack but of course I can’t do that. My mother would flip if I revealed my secret. It had almost slipped out a few times but I mostly managed to keep it quiet. My mother came rushing to my side, she grabbed me and hugged me tightly. “There you are Sadie! Where have you been? Come, let’s get in the lock up. Alpha Morgan says we have a lot of rogues at the borders.” I knew that meant we would be here for a while. I hated being in the lock up. It got so boring. I followed my mother and wondered what was going on out there. Would they all be ok? I really did hope so. One day just one day I might get to be the warrior I know deep down I was born to be. I held my locket to my chest and sighed at the thought. “You can’t, it’s far to dangerous.” My mother told me, reading my mind. I rolled my eyes because I knew she was right but it didn’t stop my longing for it to be reality. “The Alpha has been injured.” Someone shouted as the message came through on the intercom. Everyone gasped because our alpha was the leader of our pack. Nobody had ever been able to bring him down and now we were hearing he was injured. Luna paced the floor her eyes wide with concern. She pursed her lips together and kept her eyes down to avoid contact with anyone. “He will be fine. He has to be.” Someone reassured our Luna causing her to smile and nod, like she wasn’t as worried as we sensed. Almost an hour passed by before any news of the alpha was announced. It turned out the guards on duty had fallen asleep and that’s how the rogues had gained access. I’m sure they would not be doing that again once the alpha started to heal up.
