CHAPTER 4: SORT IT OUT

1903 Words
If Amber thought that having her mother worry over her health as bad, she was clearly mistaken. Her sister Scarlet topped it all off. What started out as a day where Amber could sit and enjoy was ruined by her sister who showed up out of nowhere. Amber loved her little sister Scarlet but she had to admit that often her sister was a pain in the butt. She waltzes though on the balcony where Amber was sitting on her rocking chair and soaking in the sun, blocking Amber’s sunlight. “Scarlet do you know that you’re blocking my sunlight” she asked her younger sister who did not seem bothered by what she was doing. She watched her little sister pull closer a coffee table and she sat on it. “Boy I’m glad to see you feeling so good” Amber wanted to believe that her younger sister, Scarlet was genuinely happy that she was feeling so well but her she was smart enough not to believe that one bit. Her younger sister had a motive and all Amber had to find out was what the motive was. “Spill it Scarlet, I need to rest and you are keeping me from doing just that” Amber told her sister, telling her as blank as she could. “Okay you got me. I just want to know I hope you’re not pulling the same string that Viola pulled?” “What do you mean?” she asked her younger sister, although she knew where her sister was headed, she tried her best to play dumb. “Oh please Amber. I know you told me that there was nothing going on between yourself and that criminal— I think his name is Steven” Amber badly wanted to yell out at her younger sister for calling Steven a criminal. How dare you Scarlet? Amber thought in her mind. Her sister had no idea who the real Steven was, the loving man that was not close to resembling a criminal. “Scarlet the poor man is dead, lets allow him to rest in peace” Amber said, she tried her best to sway her younger sister from wanting to speak more about Steven. The last thing she wanted to do was fight with her sister over Steven. “I know he’s dead but you have not forgotten about him and I want to know why” her younger sister leaned in towards Amber. “What makes you think that?” she asked her younger sister, feeling concerned that her sister was getting closer to finding out that Amber had really love Steven. “Well I saw you cry a few times while looking at his picture and you were at his funeral when not even his family wanted to show up to bid him farewell” She knew that her sister was telling the truth, there had been times when she had cried for Steven, she was there for his funeral, and that she will certainly do it over again if it came to it. Amber was not going to allow her younger sister make her feel guilty for loving Steven, if Scarlet had no heart certainly Amber had one. “Scarlet what are you actually trying to achieve here? Aren’t you supposed to be doing something useful like maybe finding a job or studying like everyone else does” she taunted her younger sister, she knew that it would hit her sister where it hurt most. She knew she had to do it or Scarlet was going to do what she had always did and that was to run her over. Scarlet was not looking happy at her sister Amber for revealing the truth about her situation and how she was throwing it back in her face. Scarlet quickly stood up from the coffee table and looked down at her elder sister, her face reddening, trying to control her anger, and refusing to lash out at her sick sister. “You can try to hide it all you can but I know the truth Amber” “Then why don’t you tell me Scarlet what the truth is?” Amber dared her younger sister who did not seem like she would let this fight go. “I know that you were not faking a relationship with Steven and that there was something going on between the two of you right before he died”. Amber did not get her sisters obsession with the pact, she understood that Scarlet was traumatized that night when they made the pact, but what Amber did not get was how extreme Scarlet had gotten over the years. Her hatred for men had gone beyond the simple pact that they had made; she even despised their eldest sister Viola, all because she met the love of her life and she had the most beautiful little girl ever. A part of Amber craved for that kind of love which her eldest sister have but that chance was over, because Steven was gone and there was no hope for her to fall in love. “Why do you have to be so bitter?” both Amber and Scarlet turned their heads only for them to see none other than Viola, standing there holding baby Ariel in her hand. She walked up towards them without a smile on her face, looking right into Scarlet’s eyes. Viola walked up to Scarlet and causing Scarlet to take a step back, afraid of what Viola might do to her. “Hey little sister, I think you have over stayed your welcome” Viola told her sister Scarlet as plainly as she could with a hint of sarcasm in her tone.. Scarlet did not reply, instead she looked from Viola to baby Ariel and something in her eyes changed. Instead of acknowledging her niece she chose to ignore the little girl and walk away from her leaving just little Ariel, Viola, and Amber. Viola turned towards her sister Amber and smiled at her, immediately Amber stretched out her hands to hold her niece neglecting her eldest sister Viola.  “I cannot believe that my daughter is outshining me so much that my own sister has chosen her over me” Viola teased as she handed her daughter to her younger sister. Viola waited for the moment of truth when she thought that her daughter was about to cry, instead Ariel studied Amber and then she smiled at her aunt. “I think she likes you” Viola told her sister who smiled at her. Amber felt her heart soften at the thought that someone so precious would like someone like herself, it made her wonder what her and Steven’s child would look like, if they were given the chance—if life had not snatched him from her. A tear fell from Amber’s eyes, she looked, and Ariel, who kept on laughing. The poor girl did not know anything at all, because she was so full of innocence. “Amber, please do not cry” Viola handed Amber a tissue in which she used to wipe her tears away. “Thanks sis” Amber told her eldest sister, whilst sobbing. Amber knew that she couldn’t stay here in New York, these days not even the thought of her job excited her one bit, which was strange because a year ago her job was all that she could think about and now she resented her job so much. Amber had had the same thought swirling above her head for almost a week and she knew that this was just the right time to tell her eldest sister. “Viola, I think I’ve made up my mind” Amber told her sister, who seemed confused about what her younger sister was saying. “I don’t know what you’re talking about” “I’m moving in with you and Tate in in Houston Texas” Amber told Viola, who sat there staring at her younger sister as if she’d swallowed a frog. “Amber that’s great but I don’t think that you’re well enough to—“ “Viola I have made up my mind. Look with everything that has happened I just want to forget everything” Viola held her younger sisters hand and looked at her in the eyes and she could see hurt. “This is more about Steven than the operation right?” she asked Amber, who did not answer instead she chose to look away. “Viola I just need to get away otherwise I will have a breakdown and that’s the last thing I need” Amber told her sister, sobbing in the process of it all. “It’s okay, but we’ll have to talk to mom about it first” ** Four days later After struggling to convince their mother, she had finally agreed to allow Amber leave with Tate, Viola, and little Ariel. She hated the idea of leaving her sick daughter wither eldest daughter Viola. Amber was relieved that they had taken a plane instead of driving down to Texas; as much as she wanted to see the scenery she would much rather just fly there. As she sat on her seat in first class the letter that Steve had written her before he died bothered her whole flight. Everyone had told her to forget Steve but how does one forget someone that meant so much to you without really doing so much but being there for you. Amber had succeeded; as much as she wanted to visit her the country to relax but her true intention was deeper than just relaxing. She did not know much about her donor but she did know that he or she was from this very town and she would do whatever it took to find that donor, she had to at least thank him or her for saving her life. She remembered the call she had with the nurse at her father’s hospital in Houston Texas, although the nurse could not reveal the donors personal information she did however inform Amber that her operation was done in Texas and the donor was apparently from the town. What she could not figure out was how she was going to find that donor and how was she going to draw him or her out, the town was small but it was not small enough for her to simply point out who her donor was. She looked out the window and she saw that it was dark, but they set scheduled to arrive that morning and as soon as she stepped onto Texas soil she was going to begin her search for her donor. She looked next to her seat, she saw her sister Viola, who was now fast asleep, and Amber smiled. Her sister was happy and she prayed that she too could be so happy but she did not feel like that was going to be happy anytime soon. For now Amber shut her eyes because tomorrow was a big day for her and she had to be ready.CHA
