Paxton's POV
"No, seriously. Why are you even here?" Arnold asks me. The level of stupidity, really.
"To eat dinner," I say waving my right hand that's holding a fork but he is just staring at me. I stare back at him, and realize that even though he is stupid most of the time, sometimes he can really catch on to what's happening.
He knows what happened in the past. He knows more about my cherry red hair than I know about it. And he has a lot of vengeance deep inside his heart that sometimes terrifies me.
Even though he is weak mentally, physically he can just chew me entirely like a piece of meat and end my life in a second. So I have to be careful anyways.
"I bet I will kill you with my own hands this time, if you even think of harming Alpha Samika" he tells me. He hardly touched his food. But I am hungry.
"I would never hurt her. Because I love her," I told Arnold and that made him laugh out really loud. Probably this is my first time that I noticed him laugh this way.
"You love her? You love The Alpha of the Madfurs?! Even after what you and your cunning father did to her family? Have you no shame, you i***t?" Arnold asks me.
And I take every single word that he is throwing in my direction. Because now is not the right time to fight with him. I have another place I want to be at. Patience here will take me there later.
So I don't answer Arnold and finish my dinner in silence. I thought these people usually have tasteless food considering this is the middle of the woods and not everything is available here. But even Michelin Star restaurants fail before the taste of this food. Maybe I should take a few Omegas from here and use them as head chefs in my hotels.
"Where are you going?" Arnold asks me as soon as I get up after finishing my dinner. He still did not eat at least a bite of his food.
"A walk. Want to join?" I ask him back and he flips me off before he grabs his own knife and fork, and digs into his food.
Or maybe, he just waited to see if there was any poison so he let me have the food first. As much as I think The Madfurs are stupid, they are not stupid all the time.
I act casual as if I am really out here just to take a walk. And I sit on the rock that overlooks the training grounds. I smile at a woman who is checking the patrol line to see if everything is clear and nothing is suspicious.
I turn around to look at the prison entrance. And I see the guards standing straight and eyes on their surroundings. One of them even looks straight at me and I smile at him, before turning back again.
If my calculation is right, then I have a chance to sneak in exactly five minutes later. That's when there is a minute gap between the guards exchanging their shifts and doing their duty. I can just find a way to come out eventually. I just need to get inside first.
And just like I thought, the two guards left their posts once they saw two more guards walk towards them. I have a minute if things go right. So I grab a rock and shove it into my pocket. I smile and wave at the guards again and act like I am heading back to the guest house again.
But as I crossed the prison entrance, I carefully threw the rock into the bushes that made a sound. And the sound alerted the guards who charged that side to see if it was any threat.
I smile as I walk inside the prison and follow the line of the stink. Sure enough I see John Adams. In a silver cell. His wrists in a pair of handcuffs that's digging into his skin. He is sleeping now or maybe that's what I think at least. For all I know he could be unconscious after all that screaming he had been doing lately.
I tap gently over the silver bars that made him wake up with a jolt and look around. Poor man is now traumatized. It's okay. I can do him a favor and end it once and for all.
"What are you doing here?" He asks me, and his voice is barely a whisper. His voice sounds like sandpaper scraping against a rock. That's irritating.
"Don't shout. Because the guards outside are on orders. Alpha Samika and Beta Devon passed orders on execution. This is the last time you'll ever see anyone," I tell him and it would be his loss if he just believed in what I said.
"I know my daughter. She would never do anything remotely irrational like that," he says and I chuckle at him, crouching to his level to talk face to face.
"Your daughter? Really?" I ask him with a smirk and he gulps once before standing up. And I know he would scream at any given moment so I pull out the knife in my pocket that's laced with wolfsbane.
Usually he would have been fine with this kind of weapon, but ever since he stopped taking the drug to keep his wolf submissive.. he turned into a full fledged werewolf and now even behaves like one. Maybe I should stop taking the drug too.
Oops. I forgot that I sprinkled some of it on Arnold's food. Little does he know!
"Let me tell you something, John Adams" I call him closer and he is actually foolish enough to come closer.
I grip the knife even tighter in my hand as he makes his way, but what I did not expect was someone holding my throat from behind.
"Playing games now huh, Paxton" I hear Devon's voice.
Oh s**t! f**k!!
