Chapter 14

1056 Words
Devon's POV Amara's head exploded into several pieces and are scattered in her cell. I don't know when it happened. And I don't know why Samika came here in the first place. She told me she had to take care of something. I hold Samika in my arms and she turns to face me. She is looking at me the way she looked at me before she shifted. Her eyes slowly are slowly turning hollow. I remember the few days before her first shift. She didn't talk much. She spent hours and hours just training and doing nothing else. Apparently she told Gladys that training was the only way that helped her stay calm. "I love you," Samika whispers and this is only scaring me now. "I love you too," I tell her and kiss the top of her head. Samika hugs me tightly. Something she hasn't done before. Now this is starting to scare me even more but I don't let her see. Tyler looks at his mother who is just staring at me. As if she is trying to read my soul. Everything here is now starting to scare me. "Let's get out of here for now, shall we?" I ask Samika and she doesn't say anything. But I still hold her in my arms, and make her walk. She blindly follows me partially because she seems zoned out. "Something is terribly wrong," Tyler mindlinks me even though he is walking right behind me. But I know that he is mindlinking me only because it has to do with Samika listening. He doesn't want her to listen because it's about her that's terribly wrong. "I know. I should find out what that is," I mindlink him back. He doesn't say anything as we walk towards the pack house. The pack members make way and bow to us but they are confused at the way Samika is walking. So robotic. Because I am making her walk and if I don't hold her, she might collapse right here. But her eyes are wide open though. I smile at everyone covering the facts up for both Samika and I. I cannot afford a suspicion within the pack. We have already had a lot of those in the past and none that ended well. As soon as we reached the pack house, Brent was in the living room and he was almost screaming when he saw Samika. But it was Tyler who got to him first and shushed him before he screamed something. I take Samika to her room, and tuck her under the sheets. I get rid of her shoes and everything that's heavy. I sing her, her favorite song and watch her slip into sleep. Even after she fell asleep, I stayed with her for a few minutes to see if she would wake up but luckily she slept well and her snores gave away. I walk out to find Brent, Olive and Tyler sitting silently, probably waiting for me to come out and say something. "I don't know what happened but we definitely should start finding out about it," I say and Tyler instantly gets it. "We should simply just go ahead with Sabrina's original death sentence! If she was dead, everything would be much better already" Tyler says and I notice how he didn't want to call her as mother. He is not even acknowledging her at this point. "Well, that will be easier said than done. Especially since she is now the only one who knows what is wrong with Samika," I say and he shuts his mouth. Cassie walks in and probably she already understood what is happening by now. "She was fine until last night!" Cassie says as soon as she walks in. "Yes. She was fine even moments ago. We both had a wolf run and I hate to admit that she beat my ass in it. We talked things out. We walked till here together but she said there was something she needed to take care of. Still not sure why she visited the prison," I tell Cassie and Tyler nods while listening to that as well. And for the first time I feel glad that Brent is calm as he is just listening. He is not even reacting and I guess he understood how serious the situation we are in. "This is not the first time," I whisper and this time I am telling that to Brent and Olive. I thought they should know at least a bit now that they saw more than what they should know. "She used to be this way. For the last two weeks you can say. But things changed after her first shift but now it's back again. Of the two people who knew about it, one ended up dead in her cell. The other one is still alive," I tell Brent and he nods. "Then torture her until she says. Once you know your problem, you find the solution " Brent says so casually that is kind of making it seem as if he was a gangster or something. "She has witch blood. A werewolf and part witch so torture wouldn't even faze her. It would also mean as if a fly landed on her," I tell him and he nods, thinking about it. "Then break Samika until she says," he says, throwing us all off guard. I thought he loved her enough to not hurt her in any possible way. But this is now turning out to be different. "It is far better to give her a hard time for a few days and then get her back to normal, than watch her this way not knowing what to do," he says simply and asks Olive to take him to his room. And that he was sleepy. Once he left, Cassie, Tyler and I looked at each other's faces. I hate to admit it again but he had a point. Giving her a hard time for a few days is better than watching her grow lifeless every single day. At least a few days later she will be back to normal after we take care of the issue. But for that, I need to get into the deeper layers of her mind. I guess I know how to do that.
