Chapter 56

719 Words
Brent's POV I keep running away from who I truly am. I sometimes don't feel as if I belong here. I never did. Which was why I chose painting to be my best friend. Most of the time I put my inner self on the paper and paint it all out. Recent events showed me why exactly I feel like I don't fit in here. I don't belong to the human world. But then again, I have so many questions. Why am I a human if my both biological parents are werewolves? And even after coming to know of my existence, why is my father still not making a move to know more about me? I have so many questions but zero answers. When Samika called me yesterday to ask me a favor, I noticed the way her voice wavered just a little. It is clear that she is going through something. She asked to help me bring Tyler out of prison. And I did. But she let Devon stay there. That means something severe is happening there while I am here, in this cafe sipping my coffee and being the rich celebrity artist that I am in the human world. I raise my head up to see if I can find a waitress but my eyes are met with a lady's instead. She is already looking at me and I narrow my eyes for a second before smiling at her. Olive taught me that smiling at strangers is the form of kindness that involves no hidden agenda. And I've been trying it ever since then. But I don't know why kids start crying when I smile at them. I raise my hand to wave at her and she is already waving back at me. So I take my cup of coffee as I walk towards her. I ask my personal guards to stay down and have some coffee as well. They've been working non stop just to make sure I am perfectly alright and safe. "Good morning," I say and she smiles at me. I notice her coffee is already finished but she just sat here, watching me. I look at her, a little bubble of suspicion now starting to grow in me. But she laughs as a waitress approaches and refills the cup of the lady before me. "I was waiting for my refill and noticed you look like someone I know," she says and I shrug. "Really? Are you a native?" I ask her. "No. Settled down a few years ago. My family comes from a not so well known place. But definitely not from here," she chuckles and I smile as I take a sip from my coffee cup. "What about you?" She asks me and I shrug. "I've been here my whole life," I say and she nods. There is some comfortable silence between us as we both focus on our coffees instead of each other. I text Olive saying that I am still at the cafe and she is already on her way. She was nearby and asked me if we could grab some coffee. "Girlfriend?" She asks me and I look at her confused. "You have a smile on your face. It gave away," she says again and I let out a small laugh. "Yes. My fiance," I say and think of the day I get to marry Olive. She and I.. we both are against the idea of our wedding without Samika. But we both also know that she is dealing with a lot of things right now and it would be selfish of us to bring up the topic of our wedding at a time like this. Just as I was thinking of it, I notice Olive walking through the main door and she has the biggest smile on her face as she walks towards me. I stood up and opened my arms for her to run and give me a quick hug but what I did not expect was for her to greet the lady before me as if they have known each other for a while now. "What a surprise, Lenny. I see you met my boyfriend," she beams and I am now sure that I have to know more of Lenny. Funny how Olive never mentioned her.
