Paxton's POV
"They say the war is delayed," I hear from my father as he storms into my room again.
I look at him and all I want to do is punch him in the face and scream at him to leave me alone. I wanted his appreciation. I wanted his attention. I wanted to cover for him my entire life.
But the recent turn of events is making me question if I want the same anymore.
"And who do you want me to wage a war on?" I ask him and take a step towards him with a glass of whiskey in my hands,"you?"
"Well, that was a nice joke but it's too bad it's not funny," he says.
"I didn't mean for that to be funny," I say and down the glass of whiskey.
I am waiting for that one news that I could use right now. That one freaking news. And while I was waiting for it, he walked in and he is now ruining my mood.
"When are you going to reach Samika again?" My father asks. I don't tell him anything. I turn around and walk to my bar, pouring myself another glass of whisky.
I hear his footsteps towards me and I see him grabbing a glass for himself and sliding that towards me. As I am pouring him some alcohol, there is a knock on the door.
I turn around and look at the person who is supposed to bring me the news I was waiting for. And I nod at him, not caring that my father is right beside me and he is raising his eyebrow towards me, probably wondering what I am up to.
"Don't tell me everything," I say and look at my father,"I would like to break the news to him personally. So just tell me if it's a yes or no,"
The guard looks at my dad first, with a gulp, he looks at me and nods his head,"it's a yes, Alpha"
"Well. Thanks for being a wonderful help. You shall receive my gratitude in the form of an all paid vacation for a week in Spain. Thank you very much," I smile wide at him and he bows to me with a smile before walking out.
I turn my attention towards my father again. Sliding his glass of alcohol to him, I smile at him. He is clueless but his smirk is still there on his face.
"So apparently Samika finally knows who she is," I tell him.
"I have heard. Honestly I thought you could do better. Because she was supposed to be here as your bride before she came to know that she is the Alpha's daughter of The Madfurs," he says and I nod.
That was our plan. No. That was his plan. I just had to do everything I had to, and risk everything that I have in line because he wanted his plan to succeed. But things really got ugly when she killed Alpha Jerome and became the Alpha of The Blood Rose Pack.
I mean, who knew she would even find a werewolf in a city that's far from the werewolf pack radar. And then find her mate through that boy, who also happens to be freaking Devon of The Blood Rose Pack.
"And what about the war? Why didn't you go forward with it?" He asks.
"I was the one who sent the letter waging a war, true" I say and look at him again, now is the time I am going to break the news to him. And I would love to watch his reaction when he knows what I am up to.
"Now that several other things happened, I realized we need a change of plans," I smirk at him and I switch on the television in my room.
The news is already running and at the mention of his name, his focus shifts to the television.
"What the f**k is this?" He screams and I just shrug.
"I am being charged with fraud and child pornography?" He screams again, as he stands up but the door is now open and the cops are just standing there, waiting to drag my father's ass out of this room.
"All these years, I wondered what you could do the best. And I never found an answer," I tell him, standing up again and walking towards him. The police gave us just a couple of minutes before I allowed them to take my father into custody and to prison from there.
"You make the best scapegoat, I have discovered" I smirk at him, but he is boiling with rage at this point.
"Fear not, father. I was the one who pressed the charges so you'll be fine once I withdraw it and maybe use a bit of my influence," I say.
"But when I would do that.. it would be something you should leave for me to decide," I tell him again and take a step back allowing the police to cuff him and take him out, with the whiskey still in his mouth.
I down the glass of whiskey again. The air I am now breathing feels different. Maybe this is what freedom tastes like. Maybe this is what being an Alpha, but with no power felt like all these years and now that I am the one who makes the decisions enough to change the game.. It feels better.
Now there is one last thing I should do before I start working for the war that I waged and decided it wasn't the right time. I pull my phone out of my pocket and dial the one I have to. But they didn't answer my call. Instead, someone I didn't expect called me, making me answer it in a second.
"I just saw the news of your father," I hear him say.
"Yeah. Who would have thought?" I ask him back, even though it was me who did it in the first place.
"I am in human land for a while, and I should be back to the pack before someone else suspects," he says again and just like that, a brilliant idea popped up in my head.
"Hey Noah, remember a favor you owe me?" I ask him.
"Yeah. And what would it be?" He asked me.
Noah is an Alpha of The Sacred River Pack. It's a small one but a powerful one still.
"I want you to meet Samika," I smirk as I explain my plan to him.
Once everything goes out as I planned, I don't even have to wage a war anymore. Samika is going to come to me. Running.
