The next day, Cain and Filzer walked inside the gate again. Compared to how the knights and soldiers had treated them yesterday they were actually quite respectful enough as if Cain and Filzer were commoners and not garbage which the wind just managed to blow.
No, it was more like they were cautiously acting in front of the two.
“It seems like the news of you hoarding the clothes in that boutique has gone quite the wildfire.”
Cain casually commented and took in his surroundings as he didn’t get to appreciate it yesterday. Well, more like he was studying it and memorising so he could make his way through the city without Filzer’s help.
“Hah! Funny bastards. They should be able to adjust to it quickly since the Stan household would now change drastically.”
Filzer scoffed and frowned at the same time. The ancient Dragon was someone who held a grudge. He still couldn’t forget how the knights protecting and inspecting the city gates had treated him. Of course, this was also because of his pride as a dragon.
“The Adventurer’s Guild is just past the Merchant’s Guilds; they are stationed quite near the entrance of the market.”
Filzer informed and put a hand on Cain’s shoulder.
Cain was confused at Filzer’s actions and faced him. He frowned after seeing the neither innocent nor wicked smile on Filzer’s face.
However, Cain was certain that behind that smile was another plan by the ancient Dragon. And whatever that plan was wouldn’t be of any advantage to Cain. Or the very least, his will.
“When we arrive at the Adventurer’s Guild they will try to measure your strength and put a grade based on it. But normal humans wouldn’t be able to measure your full strength so it would be a problem. The only problem was there is a magic device which would be placed on you to determine if you're a human or a literal monster with high intelligence and could morph into a human.”
Filzer still had his smile as he explained the procedure of which the Adventurer’s Guild accepts new adventurers.
Cain finally realised what the problem was, however, he still couldn’t figure out what Filzer was smiling for. He still had yet to know what the ancient Dragon was planning.
“I see, that can pose a problem.”
Cain casually commented which made Filzer’s smile disappear. The ancient Dragon had wanted to see Cain to panic. He wanted to see what a former King of another world would do while facing a dilemma.
However, Kings are still Kings no matter where they came from. Filzer was disappointed at this fact. But he thought that there was no one who was as calm as Cain after realising that a huge wave that could wash him away was raging toward him.
For the tens of hundreds of years that the ancient Dragon, Filzer, had lived he had only seen one king who reacted this way. And, of course, that king was Cain.
"I'm sure you already have a plan for that though. I'll trust you."
Filzer's eyes slightly widened and the sides of his lips twitched. He was trying so hard not to smile right after Cain had said that he trusted him. He felt proud and attached to Cain.
However, Cain just spouted whatever came to his mind as he thought that the ancient Dragon would have already had a plan if he knew about the magic device and so, he told the ancient Dragon that he trusted him because Dragons are reliable.
"Of course, I have. Anyway, it isn't actually a plan. I can just alter the magic waves from the device and trick it."
Filzer said in a as-a-matter-fact manner and swiped his long jet silky black hair back.
"You're a Dragon."
"I am."
Both of them grinned at each other's comments. And if anyone were to see the both of them they wouldn't even think anything about the two of them being unrelated for their smiles looked exactly the same.
They arrived shortly at the Adventurer's Guild and to Cain's surprise it was not what he had expected. What he had in mind was a grand building covered with high class monster's remains but the sight which greeted him was an ordinary restaurant that serves beer.
It was quite maintained and didn't look run down, however, the people inside it, which Cain thought of as adventurers, were rather noisy and chaotic making the whole place feel unkempt.
However, that only continued for a few moments. Cain had seen the events inside through the glass door which means he and Filzer were still standing right outside the building.
A moment of silence had descended upon the adventurers and the what supposed to be the guild's employees all looked in the same direction.
The bell placed on the glass door rang and that was where their eyes flew to. Two unfamiliar men came in looking in nobles' clothing. Of course, those two men were Filzer and Cain in his teenage appearance.
They both walked to the counter where the girl who was wearing a neat suit which seemed to be out of place with the restaurant greeted them.
"What can I do for you?"
She had a bright smile on her face, however, Cain could sense her cautiousness behind the smile. Filzer hid his scoff but Cain managed to catch it.
The ancient Dragon had felt how the bright atmosphere from earlier had turned down and became quite gloomy, no, it had turned dark.
"I came to register as an adventurer."
Cain stated his business and the lady clapped her hands and said, 'oh', before getting a form from underneath the counter.
"Please fill what is needed in here and place it for hand in here after filling the form up. Can you lean for a moment, please?"
The woman had some kind of a magnetic metal which Cain thought was supposed to be the magic device Filzer was talking about.
He leaned in the wide counter, without any hesitation, in order for the woman to reach him. She then put the metal around his upper arm and like a snake it wrapped itself on Cain's arms and had a clicking sound after each end connected to each other.
"Please, pay no attention to the device for it is only the measurement of your mana."
The girl easily lied however Cain knew the truth about the device and so he paid no attention to it and started filling up the form.
It was all basic questions asking about his identity so he immediately finished and returned the form to the woman. Cain then placed his hand in a cube like marble which glowed after touching it.
It was normal for it to glow, however, the woman's reaction was quite abnormal. Her eyes were wide that it made it seem like her eyeballs would fly out of their sockets and her mouth agape that it almost reached the ground.
Her reaction made the entire place even more quiet than it already was. If a normal person was standing in the middle of the room then they would have suffocated to death.
Fortunately, there were no ordinary nor normal people inside the building.
