Chapter 4 - The Void (2)

1073 Words
Five minutes, ten minutes, an hour… Cain didn't know how many hours since he started falling in the Void. He remembered how the Lord dropped him without hesitation. The moment the darkness engulfed his body, Cain felt nothing but cold and darkness. He panicked when he realized that he was not breathing air, he knew that he was falling but felt no wind brushing through his skin. His eyes were open but he couldn't see anything. And then, he realized after a minute of falling that even though he wasn't breathing, he was not dying. Cain gasped for air, however, the Void was devoid of air. Although there was no air, he was strangely not suffocating. He kept looking around but it was no use all he could see was an endless darkness. An hour has passed, Cain didn't know anymore if he was still falling or just falling. He was becoming numb, in fact, he couldn't feel anything from the moment he entered the Void. It was like his senses were completely sealed, but that was not the case, it was just the dimension devoid of everything. However, that fact was incomplete… Another hour felt like forever for Cain, not until he remembered the mechanical voice that he heard inside his head. 'Hey, are you there?' Cain was trying to talk to the mechanical voice in his head. He waited for it to answer back but it didn't. 'Hey, what's happening to me? Did I die again? What is this place?' Cain waited for a response once again, but nothing came. He remembered the last thing the mechanical voice said inside his head. 'Oh, now that I think it said that it will temporarily go on silent mode. But what does it mean by 'until the subject has completely come out?' Cain thought that he had completely come out of his mother's womb, so why was it still silent? 'Should I just turn it off? But how do I turn the silent mode off-' [Disabling silent mode…] Cain was startled when the mechanical voice suddenly spoke in his head. [Currently in the dimensional space of a certain dragon.] Cain felt his body stiffened after hearing what the mechanical voice said. Cain thought that it was a dimensional space where no entity lives. He didn't expect that the Void that made the servants worried and nervous and the Void that could make an entire room filled with endless darkness was actually a dimension of a dragon. 'Did you just say dragon?' Cain wanted to make sure that he heard the mechanical voice right. And its answer made Cain certain that he didn't misheard it. [Yes, you are currently in the dimensional space of the oldest dragon in the continent. Do you want to scan the dimension and analyze the information of the dragon?] 'Oh, you can do things like that. Scan and analyze the dimension, but before that what are you?' [I am a system locked inside your soul.] Cain couldn't help but feel confused at what the mechanical voice had said, no, he couldn't understand anything it said. 'Can you speak in the same language as me? Explain it in a way that I can understand.' [In your life as the existence, 'Cain', you have encountered me by sheer luck, I took a liking to you and sealed a portion of myself inside your soul.] Cain was lost in his thoughts after hearing its voice and what it said. 'So I met you by sheer luck in my past life and for some unknown reason you took a liking to me and sealed a portion of yourself to me?' [To be exact, I sealed a part of my consciousness inside you and I didn't take a liking to you for some unknown reason. It is late but let me introduce myself. I am the successor of the lord of wisdom, the sage.] 'What do you mean successor from what I read and heard the great sage can't have any successor.' [That is correct. The great sage couldn't have a successor, he couldn't pass down the knowledge and wisdom he had earned in his entire life. However, he found a way to do it. Right before he died he turned his knowledge into an energy and contained it in a stone, he told me to swallow it to obtain his knowledge.] 'And you really did. I'm thinking this stone that you're talking about is not an ordinary stone?' [It isn't. Do you still have questions?] 'I have but I'll save those for later. For now, please scan and analyze this dimension.' [Understood. Scanning the dimensional space of a certain dragon.] Cain waited for the sage to finish scanning the dimensional space, while his mind wandered through his thoughts trying to remember everything he knew of the great sage. The great sage had lived his life as a mortal. He was a human who received enlightenment from his good memory, talent, love and passion for knowledge. Although, all of the knowledge he acquired was all sealed in his head. He couldn't use it, no, he couldn't apply the knowledge he loved so much into his daily life and decisions. However, that was when he still hadn't received enlightenment. The moment he received it the great sage was able to turn his knowledge into wisdom. He was able to open and travel through worlds and dimensions with his wisdom. He became known to all the people in every dimension and world he went to. That is when people started calling him the lord of wisdom. At first he was happy that the people appreciated his wisdom. But years later, as the great sage grew old he became lonely and sad knowing that he couldn't hold his wisdom forever. He decided to find a way to become immortal. He used all the knowledge he acquired through his whole life, but couldn't find a solution for a mortal to become immortal. The great sage was greedy for a longer life. He wanted to learn more, to acquire more knowledge than what he already had. Cain remembered the words written on a specific book he found in her late mother's bed. 'Knowledge that can be obtained by a person is limited. It is vast, but at the same time, it can't be too little nor too great. I wish to find an existence that can reach the arcane.'
