Abel kept his mouth shut and chose to disregard my request. My mind eventually wondered back to Van. Her attitude back there made it clear she didn't want to become friends with me. But she was way far from hostile as well. She didn't tell me to get lost so it should be fine if I try again. The car enters an opposite street much to my confusion. It appears that we're leaving the bustling city and driving into a much isolated area. Soon enough, we're entering a road that's shadowed with massive trees to cover our roofs. I turn my gaze towards Abel only to receive a shrug. Just as I'm about to verbally ask what's going on, he beats me to it. "It's been a while since we've last visited that place." By that place, he's referring to that certain cliff with a magical sky view. During sunset hours, the sky gets filled with warm colors everywhere. Not to mention the stars at night. Back when we were kids, Abel's parents would constantly bring us there whenever work didn't hold them. I nod my head in understanding. The next following minutes are consumed with nothing but comfortable silence. I bring my hair back and tie it up into a tight ponytail. Abel's been drowned in his own mind as far as I'm aware. He has this habit of biting his lip whenever something's occupying his mind. It doesn't take long before the vehicle comes to a stop and I'm opening the door. Fresh air greets my presence as I take a deep breath of the cold breeze. It may sound hard to believe, but the place is actually protected by a barrier. A magical shield that hides it's view from the eyes of the outsiders. In other words, not so many people and supernaturals know of this place. The backstory itself of how it came to be is quite amazing. Although some believe it to be nothing but a untold legend. An event that happened centuries ago between two lovers. Due to discrimination, society banned them from harbouring feelings for each other. Thus it left that powerful mage to come up with an idea where he can meet his lover in secret. And that's where it all started. A shield was set up to avoid those suspicious eyes. It was romantic to say the least but a tragic death met their ending. Over the cliff is nothing but clouds hovering the unknown abyss. A sight like these could prove that the earth is indeed flat as one would be literally standing at the edge of earth's end line. Abel plops down on the edge, swinging one leg while resting his elbow above the surface of his other knee. I settle beside him and stare at the setting sun. "My birthday's close." "It is. I can't wait." I express my thoughts truthfully. This place brings back so many childhood memories. Especially that one incident when I tripped over the edge. Had it not been for Abel's father catching me on time, I would've probably been a gonner. But the odd thing was, I didn't feel the tiniest hint of fear. Any five year old would have already been terrified to experience an almost death but not me. Because at that time, It felt as if I wouldn't fall. I know it doesn't make any sense but that's how I really felt that time. I even ended up laughing once I was up on safe ground. Both parents were petrified and confused while Abel was crying with fear. In that situation, you'd think it was him who fell. I'm brought back to reality by the motion beside me. Abel suddenly lays back and releases a loud groan. I hold back my laughter as I turn to carefully look at his reaction. "We should've just went home." I tell him. He shakes his head before bringing an arm up to cover his eyes. He's not planning to take a nap right? Hope not. "I wouldn't be able to get proper rest if we went straight back." I stifle a laugh by biting my lip. He's partially right. If he were to return, Mrs Parker would've dragged him back into the car and drove onward to the blind date. "You were perfectly fine even after staying up for two days straight the last time." I speak with a matter of fact. It happened back when we were still in junior highschool. There was a sports fest and he was all hyped up about it, barely had a wink due to excitement. Our team won in the end of the day. And he still appeared fresh as ever. Abel peaks from below his arm with a menacing glare. "Who's bestfriend are you, El?" "No ones." He tsks. "You're lucky I love you." And there he goes again. "You shouldn't be saying stuffs like that you know." Sniffing slightly, I divert my attention back into the horizon. "You'll meet your mate soon. I don't want to be ripped off to shreds just because I made a she wolf jealous. I won't be able to fight them off mind you. " I've heard that female werewolves were known to be very territorial. Once Abel finds his mate, I've planned to keep an understandable distance between us to avoid getting my neck snapped. "What makes you assume that my mate's a werewolf?" I turn to him with a confused expression. "Is that not always the case?" Abel sighs like I've just asked the most ridiculous question. "Our families been friends for generations. I'm surprised you don't know these." Well, excuse him. It's not my fault that I'm missing the knowledge. I don't waste my time reading books about werewolves either since I'm practically friends with one. So far, I've only ever seen them end up with their own kinds. But know that he's mentioned it, I kinda find it interesting. "Can a werewolf be mates with a Human?" He sighs. "This is the dumbest I've ever seen you be."
