"I'm not getting any younger get here, Elka!"
Loona, sporting a beige safari shorts and an oversized tshirt with the words 'power' encrypted on it, fixes the cap on her head as she peers through the stairs for my presence.
I roll my eyes, zipping my jean's up before peaking inside my backpack.
Phone, check. Alcohol spray, check. Power bank, check. Cap, check. What else am I missing? Oh right. Headache pills.
After shoving said item inside, I saunter out the hall and down the staires to find Loona all jumpy beside my door.
"Excited much?"
"Who wouldn't?" She responds with a wide grin. Her hair's pulled back into a high ponytail with side bangs accentuating her nose. Her baseball hat's facing backwards, preventing unwanted strands from attacking her face.
After making sure my house's locked and secured, Loona snakes her arm around mine and leads me to the car where Abel's already roaring the engine to life.
Automatically, I take the passenger seat and Loona takes the back. She's the kind of person who likes to lay back and enjoy the ride with style rather than stay in one position.
"So I was thinking we ride that monster coaster. I heard that its dope, makes you puke your guts out."
"I'd like to avoid anything that'll cause my breakfast to escape." I tell her as a matter of fact, watching buidlings pass by the window.
From here on, It'll take about thirty minutes to reach that amusement park. If we don't count time spent on traffic that is.
"Where's the fun in that. You know what? You're doing it. You're leaving anyway so that's the least you can do for us."
"Loona." For the first time today, Abel growls in warning. The girl clicks her tongue and ignores him with an eye roll, steering her attention back to me expectantly. "What do you say, Elka?"
"Fine. You win. If I don't make it out alive, at least promise me you'll demand a r****d for my plane ticket."
"Cross my heart and hope to die. I won't promise to stick a cupcake in my eye though."
This girl. I hold back a laugh. Just a few days ago she was crying her lungs out and now look at her. She sure does move on so fast.
The journey doesn't last long and before we knew it, the amusement park gateway's welcoming us in the land of risk and sugar. I can smell cotton candy and corn dogs, the bustling of machines operating. The area's roaring with life as shrieks from riding passengers fill the air. I heard this place's the third largest park to ever exist nation wide.
Once we've got our tickets, Loona suggested the best ride for last. So in the mean time, we can hit the minor once and enjoy some snacks along the way. After each breath taking ride, we'd rest for ten minutes before heading to the next one. Abel remained silent the whole time whereas Loona and I constantly screamed on the top of our lungs.
I can guess he was starting to get annoyed by our constant release of tension.
But who cares? You only live once. Might as well enjoy it.
"I really need to take a piss. Wait here." Handing me her smoothie, Loona then scurries off to the direction where the public toilet probably is.
I watch her disappear into the sea of crowds before diverting my gaze elsewhere. There's a little space to rest on the side with chairs surrounding a table and a huge umbrella above. I gesture Abel to follow along.
He takes the seat across me with a lost expression on his face. I've noticed it since we left but refrained from bringing it up.
Until now that is.
"Penny for your thoughts?" I clamp my lips around my straw and take a sip. "You look bothered."
"I am."
And here I wanted him to have a good time before I leave. Hearing him say that almost triggers guilt to swamp me. I open my mouth only to close it back again. What should I say? Shrug it off and ignore it or ask what it is that's bothering him? Although I have a clue why, I end up asking for a confirmation anyway.
"It's because of my conversation with Loona in the car isn't it."
When Abel clenches his jaw, I know for a fact that, that's the one. As expected. He's always hated it whenever I bring up the words 'death' and 'I' together in a sentence. Even if it's solely for the purpose of a joke.
"I won't do it again. I promise." Forcing out a laugh, I then tilt my head to side side to catch his eyes. "Forgive me?"
"i***t. You know I can never stay mad at you."
"Great. Now that, that's settled. Let's try that ride Loona mentioned once she's back."
"You don't have to give in to everything she says you know."
"I want to. So it's fine with me."
As if on cue, said girl arrives with a satisfied look sprawled all over her face. She links her hand in mine, grabs her drink before dragging me into the crowd once more. I glance over my back to make sure Abel's keeping up. I receive a little smile in return, making my heart beat all of a sudden. The familiar voice besides me lures me back into reality. Loona's eyes are brightened up with determination as she stares at the coaster track that's at least forty feet tall.
"Are you ready? Try not to scream too much or you'll end up puking."
"Isn't that the whole point why we're trying it?" I inquire and receive a head shake.
"We're testing if the rumors are true. So brace yourself for the unexpected."
After standing in line for two minutes, it was finally our turn to have a go on the ride. I've set my eyes on the middle seat for the reason of not wanting to fall off. It sounds stupid but I just don't really want to sit on the edge.
Abel's the last to step in, sitting on my right while Loona's on the opposite side. Safety protocols are then echoed through the speaker as a staff makes sure all our belts are secured and tight.
Compared to Abel, who's showing almost mo care at all and Loona who's acting like a little girl accepting the present they've always wanted, I'm over here thinking if I'll indeed die before I can even leave for my flight.
I've held it in because I wanted to make both Loona and Abel's last memory of me enjoyable and for once disregard what I really feel.
Because the thing is. Im not a fan of heights.
