Chapter 19

Blake POV

It hurts me the most to see my wife having hard time to move on. I know, it’s painful that we lost our first child but I don’t want her to blame herself with what happen. I, on the other hand should’ve make sure that my wife is in good health condition but still I fail to do too. Right now I just want to comfort her all the time to lessen the burden that she carries through her heart.

Once we landed in New York, media wanted to scoop some news from me but the problem is they’re giving me new rumor that makes my wife more upset. She couldn’t handle the media and so instead of ignoring them like how she handle it before, now she gave them a reason to create a news about her when she show her hand confirming that she’s wearing a wedding band now. We need to open up with our family now or else our parents and siblings might catch the news from other sources.

When we reached her apartment, I instantly message Bradley and asked him if we could meet and talk. I hope he’s not busy right now because since he got married he become so busy with his family especially with their daughter. After almost half an hour he replied and asking me if the rumor from the news today is real or not. I don’t know, but somehow I got scared on what will my brother react when I share to him the news. And add on what my parents would tell me too, I’ll be doomed.

As usual, Celine just stayed inside her room once we’re home and sulk the whole day. I only ask her to eat but most of the time she refuse or sometimes just eating a little portion then that’s all. I’m really getting worried about her but I can’t talk to her that much or else it will just lead to confrontation and argument.

Tonight, I’m going to meet Bradley and tell him about our relationship. He’s the first person I can open and talk with about this since he knows my hidden feelings with Celine since we were kids. I hope he’ll take the news easy and accept it. I get ready and make sure that Celine has something to eat when I leave so I prepare some foods for her and will inform her about my meet up with Bradley.

“Sweetie, I’m about to meet Bradley. Do you want to come with me?” I asked and see if she’ll prefer to go with me instead.

“I’ll just stay here. Why with a sudden meet up with him?” She inquired.

“Just for some business related stuffs.” I lied.

“Then it’s better if I just stay here, I won’t understand it anyway.” She said and just pull the comforter to cover herself.

“Don’t forget to eat, okay? I’ll get back soon.” I said and planted a kiss to her head.

She just nod and closed her eyes without giving any response. I stare at her for a while and waited if she’ll still change her mind but she remained stoic and so I headed to the door and as I turn the knob I tell her I love her and then left.

After an hour driving, I reached the restaurant where I will meet Bradley. The receptionist usher me at the reserved table for us and handed us the menu lists. I ordered for a glass of brandy and my brother got confused for a while and then placed some orders as well.

“Are you okay? Seems like you’re in deep trouble. Don’t tell me that the rumor of you being married is true.” Bradley said jokingly while he start sipping his brandy.

“I am.” I confirm that makes him choke with the bitter liquor on his mouth.

“What? Are you joking me?” He asked, giving his full attention to me.

“It’s true, I am married a month ago.” I said and started to drink my liquor as well to give me a strength to voice out and share the details to Bradley.

“Are you being blackmailed or something? And who’s this woman who captures you?” He mockingly asked.

“I’m confident enough that you won’t kill me if you meet my wife but I’m not so sure if you’ll not going to beat me.” I replied and pour another brandy on my glass.

“Slow down, will you? Can you just spill the beans?” Bradley said while stopping me to pour another shot of liquor.

“I got married a month ago and we went on a trip, I know that my wife is already pregnant that time but we’re not aware that it’s a complicated pregnancy. And as a newly married couple, we faced misunderstanding and sometimes we argue. Then just two weeks ago we lost our first child and she can’t stop blaming herself.” I reveal and I can see the look on my brother’s face the sympathy when he heard about losing my first child.

I continue to drink the bitter liquor on my glass and continue to pour another one and drink again. My brother got tongue tied and couldn’t say anything, just looking at his glass swirling the liquor on it and thinking deep.

I hear him release a deep sigh and slam his back on his chair. I could see the pain in his eyes, maybe a sweet spot with my sweet child’s death even before he meet my baby. I know that as a father it pains him too to hear my sad news.

Minutes passed and we still remain silent until the ordered foods came and served in our table. He asked me to eat and try to enjoy the foods we have, until we finished our dinner.

I told him I cannot stay longer because my wife is alone right now so I need to get back home soon and make sure that she eat her dinner as well. He nods and told me to keep strong as this is just a beginning and that make sure that I treat my wife properly.

It makes me feel somehow at eased that I shared my secret to Bradley but still feeling guilty of not mentioning Celine’s name to him because he might freak out or I don’t know how he will react.

“Don’t need to go to work. You need to take care of your wife first, take a vacation I’ll handle your work responsibilities.” He said and giving me a side hug as we’re about to leave the restaurant.

I gave him a slight nod and return a brotherly hug to him. My eyes gets cloudy as unwanted tears form out of nowhere. Maybe, the feeling of having a brother who understand and always listen to you makes me more emotional. We then about to part ways but then he stops me by yanking my arm.

“Tell my lovely sister that I love her and that I’m sadden to hear the news about your child. Visit us anytime or stay with us for a meantime so that they could bond with my wife. And about you, keeping the wedding to our entire family prepare yourself. You have a long of explanation to do with our family. Especially that you marry the woman who grew up as a sister to all of us.” I was left dumbstruck and just watch him walk and reach his car.

He just wave his hand before riding and then started his engine and drive. I on the other hand is so clueless on how Bradley knew about the wife I’m trying to keep. I’m so sure that I didn’t give him a hint or even accidentally mentioned Celine’s name. Just when I’m about to start my car and drive home too, my phone beeps and notified me of the message that I received. Thinking it is my wife who’s checking my whereabouts I instantly fished my phone inside my pocket and check.

“Just in case you’re wondering how I figured it out about the wife you carefully keep to say the name, I just know you my dear brother. That you will not going to settle down unless with the woman that you keep on loving since our childhood days.”
