Simone POV
I combed my hair and pulled it in a high ponytail. It was monday, and I was getting ready to go to school again. This is how my life is supposed to be. I convince myself that I enjoyed my youthful time studying and fooling around with my friend instead of marrying a cocky alpha. It’s been two days, and I haven’t heard from him over the weekend. I scoffed. Did he give up that easily on me? He doesn’t even bother to come here and talk to me. Man is such a disappointment.
My phone buzzed, and it was a text from my best friend, Mandy. She had been worried because I didn’t keep her updated ever since I’ve got engaged to Marcus. She was shocked to hear the news, and I assumed she would be even more shocked if I told her today that I already called off the wedding. Well, actually, I never officially talk to Marcus about this. But I think I already make myself clear with my dad. Mandy asked me when I’m going to be at school. I quickly typed her a reply before snatching my bag.
“Good morning, Simone,” Dad said as he saw me entering the dining room. I walked into his chair and pecked his right cheek. “Morning, dad,” I said as I pulled the chair and took a seat in front of Ethan. I tried to ignore a conniving look from my other brother, Oliver. “So…How’s your prince charming doing? Did he finally got sick of you? Why I haven’t seen him at the weekend?” Oliver sneered at me. Dad hit the table hard with his palms, making us all startled. “Stop it, Oliver. Don’t talk bad about your sister like that!” Dad warned him in an angry tone. My heart shouted in joy. I loved it when dad stood up for me when my brothers are bullying me.
Oliver’s face turned sour, and he continued to eat the piece of bread in front of him. More like killing the bread rather than eating it. I quickly finished my food to get out from this awkward breakfast situation with my family. “I think I’m done…” I said as I got up and took my bag from the floor beside my chair. “Simone…” Dad said, causing me to paused and looked back at him. “Yes, dad?” I halted, waiting for his response. “Have a great day at school.” He said. I frowned in confusion, he rarely said that to me. I’m not even sure what’s that supposed to mean? “Okay? See you, Dad. Bye…” I said and making my way out of my house.
The school was pretty packed today. All the girls at school were talking about something, and they looked very excited. I was struggled to find Mandy, I couldn’t find her anywhere. I pulled out my phone and called her. She said that she was already in class, waiting for me, what a typical Mandy. She was, without a doubt, one of the brightest students in my class. Her determination was undeniable.
I saw her sitting on the right side of the class, near the window. “Hi girl, looking good today.” I complimented her as I saw her dressed differently today. She wore a yellow summer dress underneath a jeans jacket. She looked vibrant today, the yellow dress complimented her tanned skin very well. She rarely dressed up to school because she only cared about her score, rather than seducing boys at school. “Do you think so? It’s just my regular outfit.” She said, hiding her blush. Since when did she care about dressing up?
“Is there something I don’t know? Oh my God, don’t tell me the chemistry presentation was today? I thought it was for next week.” I said with a worried face as I checked the schedule on my book. I flipped the page a little bit too hard that it was slightly torn on the side. “Didn’t you hear? There will be a new student here moving here today. Rumor has it that he was cute. It was all over the group chat yesterday. Don’t you see it?” Mandy said with a blushing face. Truth be told, I never bothered to check the school group chat since they mainly talked about school gossip, and I’m not interested in it. I rolled back my eyes. “You know I never cared about that stupid group chat. Thank God! I thought I missed the presentation. Dad would kill me if I failed the subject.” I sighed in relief.
Not long after, I saw Mr. James, our chemistry teacher, enter the class. “Good morning, students. As I supposed you might all already hear. We will be having a new student joining us this semester.” I suddenly felt the ambiance inside the class had changed. It was cold, making the hair on my back stood up like I just saw a ghost. I heard a few gasps from the other girls as I saw someone walked into our class. I lifted my head, and I nearly passed out as I saw his face. His lips curved a smirk that did a funny thing to my stomach. This couldn’t be true. What is he doing here? “Class… This is the new student, Marcus Cooper.” Mr. James introduces him as he patted his shoulder.
His eyes won't leave mine. He seemed to enjoy this moment to make fun of me. He cleared his throat before he starts speaking, “Good morning, all. I’m Marcus Cooper. Nice to meet you.” His voice was still as deep and alluring as I remember it to be. I mentally slapped myself for gazing at him for too long. I was supposed to be avoiding him. “Well, why don’t we find you a seat?...” Mr. James said as his eyes searched for an empty spot. I saw a few girls pointing at the empty seat beside them, hoping that Mr. James would put Marcus sitting next to them.
I looked away, pushing his attention away from me. “Marcus, how about there? Next to Darla?” Mr. James finally said after a while. Darla is sitting on the left side of the classroom, far away from me. Which is good. I let out a breath of relief. “I’m sorry, Mr. James, but my vision is not that sharp. Can I sit there next to the lovely girl in a ponytail?” I found my heart thumping against my ribcage. “Ms. Johnson? I hope you don’t mind?” Mr. James asked me as I froze out. “Sure she doesn’t…” He said confidently and walked into my table.
He purposedly rubbed the side of my hand as he took a seat beside me. I throw him a deadly glare even though I’ve been yearning for his touch ever since I left his pack. I saw a few girls in the class throwing me envy and disapproving look. What? It’s not like I wanted him to sit right next to me? It was unfair. But I know they wouldn’t dare to pick a problem with me because I was the daughter of the Alpha.
Before I could realize it, Marcus put his hands over my clenching fist, and it startled me at first. I couldn’t say that I hate it. On the contrary, it was unbelievably comforting. “Hi…nice to meet you again, Simone.” He said with his signature smirk that makes me want to kiss him right now. I was doomed.
