Chapter14

***Nikki's POV***

While I play the guitar, I start hearing voices get louder. I guess the boys are back. I continue to play until I hear a loud bang. I know this can’t be good. I run out of my room and rush down the stairs, taking two at a time just to see my typically calm brother holding Logan against the wall.

“What the Hell is going on?” I ask, voice raised.

“Don’t worry about it, Nikki.”

I appreciate Nathaniel's concern, but I’m stronger than this and he knows it.

“I asked what was going on, and I expect someone to answer me properly!”

I glare at my brother, but he’s so focused on what’s in front of him that he ignores me. I turn and catch Blake’s eye, but he just shrugs and holds Nat closer. I know Nat doesn’t do well with violence, so I look at my twin.

“Well?”

“Not my story to tell...” and with that he walks out of the room.

“Thanks for the help!” I growl back at him, he just shrugs and continues walking away. I look at my dad and see him fighting his own wolf for control. I sigh. Goddess, please give me strength to deal with these Alpha males.

“Tanner control you mate!”

“Yes mam.”

Tanner quickly bounces into action and quickly pulls Nate away from Logan. I get he is our enemy, but we don’t want to give anything away. How can they act so stupidly?

“Theo, will you please tell me what is going on?”

He looks me dead in the eye, opens his mouth, then thinks better of it and looks away from me. Useless.

“Fine if nobody will tell me, we might as well make our way outside. My pack is waiting for a show.”

“That sounds like a good way to calm everyone down.” I look over at Tony and give him a little smile.

“My thoughts exactly.”

I walk out the door while I hear my dad tell everyone to get outside. At least this way, we can all breathe and relax.

We quickly get to the makeshift stage we use for pack announcements and celebrations. I look around and see most of the pack talking among themselves and laughing. At least some of us can have a good night. I walk onto the stage as my father takes the mic.

“Hello everyone.”

“Hello Alpha.”

“Tonight we have a special guest among us, Alpha Theodore. King of the wolves. In Honor of our king, my daughter Nikita Evergreen will be singing for us all tonight.”

I hear everyone clap as I take the mic from my father. I take a deep breath then begin my little introduction speech.

“Thank you everyone, please give a warm welcome to our guest.”

I hear some wolves howl in respect and some more clapping. I silence the crowd and prepare myself. I feel my nerves catching up with me and search the crowd for a familiar face. First I see Nick and he, gives me a reassuring smile. I look beside him and see Theo smiling at me, his eyes filled with pride and maybe a hint of lust. But that could easily be mistaken for how I am feeling.

‘You’ve got this Nikki!’

‘Thanks for the support Nikita.’

‘Anytime girly, now sing your heart out!’

I look back at the crowd and start strumming my guitar. I've got this. I smile as the music begins to sooth me. And just like that, I start singing.

I watch the smiles and hear a few gasps. I typically don’t sing in front of the whole pack, but they all know that I can. My mother made sure that I took lessons. As she put it, everyone should have a talent and a hobby.

As I sing, I notice a shadow move through the crowd. I knew something was going to happen tonight. Why does it have to be now when there are young pups running around?

'Nick, something is going to go down soon, warn the family but remain calm. I need to keep singing, so I don’t let them know that we know.’’

'You got it!’

“You told me once, dear, you really loved me

***Theo’s POV***

While I listen to her, I can’t believe how lucky I am to have her as my mate. She’s talented and earlier she showed me just how much she fits the Luna role. She will make an excellent queen. I continue to watch her when I notice her one eye glaze over. She’s still singing, yet she is also mind linking someone. I look beside me to see Nick with glazed eyes. He quickly comes to and looks me dead in the eye.

“Someone is here who shouldn’t be. I’m letting my family know. Nikki says to play it cool, so we can have the upper hand.”

For f*cks sake, can we not have a moment of peace tonight?

“Alright. I’ll let Tony know. I won’t be taking my eyes off of Nikki. She’s who they must be after.”

“No sh*t. Just keep her safe.”

“Always.”

He quickly steps into the crowd and I put all my attention on Nikki and her beautiful song.

As she sings the last note, a tear slides down her face. It’s clear this song has a greater meaning for her.

“AHHHHHHHHHH!”

I quickly turn around at the sound of the scream, only to see countless rouges attacking the pack. I quickly shift into my wolf and leap into action. There is no way I can just sit here and watch as my mates' pack gets attacked.
