Prologue
My name is Nikita Evergreen. I am daughter to one of the most powerful alphas in existence. I have deep red hair and bright turquoise eyes. Compared to my brothers, I am the odd one out. Everyone in my family has brown hair and gray, blue or pale green eyes.
I was always told growing up that I would be one of the most powerful wolves in existence, that I was special. I never believed them until my 10th birthday. That was when I first found my inner wolf. She was strong and very stubborn. Unlike myself, I was kind and often very shy. My wolf was the only red wolf in our pack. Unlike most red wolves, she was more the color of a ruby, earning us the title of Nikita the ruby wolf. There are many rumors about us, since anyone who sees my wolf often doesn't live to talk about it. That is everyone except for my pack. Even then, if someone from my side pisses my wolf off, may the goddess have mercy on them and hope my twin is there to stop me.
Since I discovered my wolf, I typically go by the name Nikki, whereas my wolf only listens to Nikita. Most of the time, Nikita and I don't agree, but there is always one thing we both know we want: our mate. We often stay up late thinking about what they are like and how they will treat us. Being a werewolf, you grow up learning that one day you will find your mate. That once you do, you feel complete. I was always told that your mate would love you unconditionally, love you for who you are, and that you are the strongest you could be when you complete the mating ritual.
We thought we had found our mate once. He was my best friend Tanner. We always got along, made each other laugh. He knew how to handle Nikita, and that is a hard thing to do. We were inseparable until he met my brother Nathaniel. As soon as they met, they couldn't take their eyes off each other. They were so consumed with each other. I was upset at first, but I got over it quickly when I realized that I still had a mate out there somewhere. From that point on, Nate and Tanner have my blessing.
I remember yelling at Nate for stealing my friend from me, but Tanner was quick to assure me that we would still be friends. That we would now be family. I was so excited that I ran up to them both and gave them the biggest hug I could muster. Apparently, I have quite a temper, cause the next day, Tanner told me how scared Nate was of me. My brother actually thought I'd wolf out and kill him. Tanner and I laughed for a good bit about it before I went down and apologized to Nate.
Once I turned 18, I started having strange dreams that seemed too real. I remember one dream I had. It was of my sister. She was curled up beside her mate crying. In every dream I have I can only hear bits and pieces. But from this one I heard a couple of things. Father, angry, Jessie, lose, baby, calm down. I was shocked, to say the least. When I woke up that morning, I ran straight to my sister's room.
"You're pregnant!" I remember the look on my sister's face. Pure shock.
"How did you know?" She whispered.
"I had a dream about you, Nat. You were crying. I could only hear a little bit, but I know you for sure, said baby." She just stared at me wide-eyed.
"If I were you, tell dad and stay close to home and your mate, and far away from Jessie. I think something bad will happen."
"What do you mean?"
"In my dream I heard you say Father, angry, Jessie, lose baby."
"OK, Nikki, whatever you do. Don't let anyone know about your dreams. I think you might get glimpses of the future, but I can't be sure. Not yet. "
"Seriously!?!"
"Whenever you have a dream like this, write it down and talk to either me or Nickolas. If your dreams do come true and someone finds out, you will be hunted down and possibly killed or at least held captive."
"Ok I'll keep that in mind." I said.
And ever since that day, every realistic dream I had came true. I started meditation and began honing my skills. I could put myself into a trance and see into the future only slightly. I never told anyone else like my sister said. Eventually, I was able to see further into the future, but I try not to look into it. For knowing the future can be a dangerous thing and when you see something you don't like you want to change it. Now, that's not to say that the future is for sure. I've seen it change countless times. It's all based on choices made by the people in the vision. The only things that have always come true to the t, would be my dreams. That means once I found out my sister was pregnant, and I tried to change the future, she still lost her baby. And it was one of the most heartbreaking things that ever happened in our pack. Here I am now a year older, still trying to come to terms with my dreams.
