chapter eight: the meeting

Marcus was feeling weird. Actually, scratch that he didn't know what to feel. His sister's mate's brother is after his sister and he just found out he has a mate himself. Talk about complicated!

Artemis walked inside a room, not so far away from the main area of the castle. She sat down on the bed and looked at him with her bright green eyes. Marcus looked around the room and soon realised that that was her room.

The walls were painted light green and the bed and furniture were also green. The carpet and curtains were white. Few teddy bears decorated her bed and her desk was full of makeup, weapons and papers.

"So I guess we need to talk?" he cursed silently when he realised it came out as a question and rubbed his forehead with the back of his hands.

"Yeah... As you realised you're my mate" she replied, her green eyes not leaving his brown ones. He nodded and scratched the back of his head, looking uncomfortable.

"What do you think about that? Talk to me" she stated, getting up from her seat and walked closer to him. He didn't step back and simply bowed his head.

"Well, I guess I can give you a chance. I mean I can't judge you when I don't even know you. It's just... I don't like wolves" her eyes widen and hurt flushed through them. Marcus realised how wrong that sounded and quickly corrected himself. "I mean I don't like them but I will have to get used to them as my mate is one of them"

"So you're giving this a chance?" She asked, her eyes wide with curiosity. He smiled and looked down at her.

"Yes, I am"

Sophia was alone in her room. Theodore had a meeting with an Alpha and had to leave immediately. She felt lonely there and kinda missed him but she knew it was just the bond.

Then, something crossed her mind. She just told her brother to talk with his mate and give her a chance. Why couldn't she give Theodore a chance? What was wrong about that?

She knew that the bond will make things complicated but it was worth a try, right? She wasn't just going to start falling in love with him or something. She would start simple, like that movie Luna Octavia from the Gray Moon Pack had made her watch.

She would talk to him more politely, she won't flinch away from him and she will listen to him.

Here we go! She thought and smiled at the kids that were running around the back of the castle.

The next morning, Theodore walk inside his nanny's old room and was shocked to find Marcus there. He was sitting on the bed, drinking orange juice.

The King frowned at his mate's brother but didn't bother asking. He sat down at the desk chair and started explaining. "We have to go to Caius' castle before the Mate Ball which is in a few days".

"So when exactly?" he placed the cup on the floor next to him and leaned forward. The King sighed and got up. He walked towards the calendar of the room and pointed at a date.

"A week from today... I have a meeting with Caius about him signing another ten years of peace between the Kingdoms"

"So, what are we going to do when we get there?" Marcus asked, tilting his head to the right to get a better look at him.

"Caius' wife is inside this castle. She was poisoned and my doctors - who are the best in all Kingdoms - are trying to save her but they told me there's no way to save her" he took a deep breath "I think he only sends his vampires here to check on her. We are going to go to the meeting and you, Marcus, are going to be my plus one".

"So we are just going to talk with him?" The young wizard got up from his seat and stepped closer to the King.

"Basically"

"So he gave you a chance?" Sophia asked as they walked inside the kitchen. Everyone stopped what they were doing and bowed their head in respect for their Queen. Sophia told them to continue eating and shook her head.

"Yeah. He was also smiling. I love his smile" Artemis gave her a dreamy look while her friend started laughing at her expression. "How do you like being a Luna and a Queen?"

They grabbed a plate and helped themselves. A few maids tried to take the Queen's order but she told them that they're all equal and she could do it herself. They sat down at the table they had sat the other day. "Well, it's okay I guess. I just don't like being treated like I'm superior. I know I'm supposed to be a Queen but I want to be treated equally".

"That's gonna take a while but I'm sure in time it'll happen".

Demetri joined them after a while, smiling widely. The redheaded she-wolf gave her friend a weird look before she turned her attention to the Prince and Beta. "Why so happy? I mean it's not bad but you were literally ready to start hugging everyone a few minutes ago".

He ignored her last comment by rolling his eyes and took a bite from his breakfast. "The Mate Ball is in a few days and that means I may find my mate".

Artemis nodded, smiling at her best friend and Sophia couldn't help but hug him. Demetri returned the hug and only pulled away when his brother and Marcus walked inside. The King was greeted by everyone as he walked towards his mate who couldn't take her eyes off of him.

He looked breathtaking. He was wearing black jeans, a grey shirt and his hair were messily styled. She wanted to badly to ran her hands through them.

"Morning" Marcus greeted the Beta and sat down next to his girlfriend. She smiled widely at him and he returned it when she kissed his cheek.

"Hey" Sophie mumbled as she looked at him. Theodore was surprised she was even talking to him but quickly greeted her back. A small smile appeared on his face and she couldn't help but smile back.

"We're going dress shopping later" Artemis stated, looking at her. Sophie asked, "Why?"

"The Mate Ball" Theodore answered "But Sophia has to wear the Queen's dress. It's the tradition". She nodded silently while she ate her cornflakes.

"Okay... Can she help me though, My King?" he gave her a glare was the last words and she only smiled sweetly. Demetri chuckled at them as he drank his juice. Marcus asked him if he could have some juice too and he handed it to him.

"Yes, she can but only if Demetri is with you two" The said boy started choking on his juice and his brother patted his back, chuckling and shaking his head.

"What?"

"They need protection. She is the new Queen and you know what happens if she gets hurt" his words made him rethink his decision as he cleaned himself. He nodded, frowning.

"Fine, I'll go."
