Xavier’S POV
The light coming in through the blinds gave the room a warm glow as I slowly woke up. I lay still for a moment, enjoying the last bits of the night before. It had been a long time since my body felt so calm and at ease. My mind kept going back to her—Sarah.
In a way I hadn't expected, she was different and interesting. I still felt her touch on my skin, and the way she kissed me made a mark on my mind.
The space next to me was empty, though, when I turned over.
As I sat up, I frowned and blinked the sleep out of my eyes. The sheets were cool. She was gone, not leaving a sign or a word. Slowly, my eyes moved to the bed. The white sheets had the tiniest trace of blood on them.
My chest got tight. She was a virgin. How did I miss that? It made me feel bad—had I been too rough? Had I made her leave?
There was a writhing wolf in the back of my mind. We need to find her.
His voice kept going over in my head, calling me to act quickly. He was right. Something about Sarah made me not want to ignore her. My wolf had been nervous since we first met, and now he was pacing and telling me to find her again.
"I know," I whispered, and swung my legs over the side of the bed. Even though my body hurt, my mind was already going fast. Why had she not said anything before she left?
As I put on my clothes, I swung my legs over the side of the bed and thought about Sarah another time. There was more to this than just the night we spent together. It was more than that, though. I couldn't get rid of the feeling that she was more than just a passing link.
The buzzing of my phone again broke the quiet of the city outside. It was Zander.
"Xavier," his steady, quiet voice said. "I checked that you will be giving a talk at Youth Star College about the future Entrepreneur competition. Your teaching assistant will be hired directly by the college, so you'll meet her when you get there.”
"Understood," I said, but my thoughts were already going back to Sarah. I couldn't get rid of the thought of her body pressing against mine last night. It was like a unforgettable.
I only knew her name, but I felt like I needed to know everything about her.
"Zander," I said after a short pause, "I need you to find someone for me. Sarah Haver is her name. I want to know everything about her.”
"Understood," Zander said right away, without any doubt. That was something I liked about him. He never pryed into things that weren't his business or asked things that weren't required.
As soon as I hung up the phone, I started walking back toward the window. I could see the city lights far below me, shining dimly at night. I could only think of Sarah, though. Her face, her smell, and the way she had looked at me before everything changed.
Last night wasn't just a one-time meeting. My wolf had also felt it because his feelings told him to guard her and claim her.
"She's more than what she seems. She's important.” My wolf said in a low, growl voice.
I had to agree. Something about her made me feel like I couldn't leave her alone. The feeling that this meeting wasn't just a coincidence. Not at all. Sarah Haver was important. Which made me want to know why.
After several hours, Zander called me again.
"Xavier, I've found some information on Sarah Haver. She goes to Youth Star College and is in the fashion program there. She comes from South America and is an orphan, came here on a scholarship because she did so well in school,” He gave me detail of her.
My heart beat faster. South America? The prophecy had spoken of a girl from the South Star—the one who would bring balance to the supernatural world. The Wolfsbane Star.
"Are you sure about that?" My voice was a little sharper than I meant when I asked.
“Yes,” my assistant confirmed. “Her records match the description you mentioned before. It could be a coincidence, but...”
“No,” I said, more to myself than to him. “It’s not a coincidence.”
The prophecy had said that there would be a war and that a girl from the South Star would become the Wolfsbane Star, a powerful force that could tip the balance between the human and wolves. had been following clues, chasing shadows, but I never expected her to show up like this.
Sarah.
Sarah.
My wolf woke up again. He was more hurried this time, but he also had an almost protective sense. She's the one. She needs to be.
I hung up the phone by saying, "Find her soon." My chest tensed as I felt a mix of excitement and worry. Sarah was more than just the girl I slept with that night. She might hold the key to everything.
I had to find her again. I had to understand what was going on.
