Sarah tried to find her voice by swallowing hard. She managed to say, "You're... my professor," but her words were weak and unsure, as if she were trying to remember the lines that had already been crossed.

When Xavier leaned in, his warm breath hit her ear and made her shiver. "Does that really change how you feel about me being here?" He spoke in a low whisper that was full of desire. “Be honest with yourself. Tell me you haven't thought about last night."

She couldn't lie because her heart was racing. She barely got the words out as she whispered, "I... I can't stop thinking about it." His gaze made her whole body excite.

When Arah finds out that her boyfriend only dated her on a dare, it breaks her heart. She has an intense night with a stranger to feel better, but then she finds out that he is Xavier Steel, her soon-to-be professor. CHAPTER1
Sarah’s POV The loud, high-pitched laughter of Mira could be heard throughout the congested room. I stood outside, holding my drink tightly. Peeking through the small hole in the door, I saw her standing next to my boyfriend Justin. It made my heart sink. Too close. She touched his arm in that flirty way she always did to get attention, and he didn't pull away. Instead, he laughed and leaned in toward her a little, as if they were telling a secret joke to each other. “Justin, what do you think?" Mira asked softly as she twirled a piece of her glossy locks around her finger. "Where is your little nerdy girlfriend? What was her name again? "Sarah?" The sound of Justin laughing sent chills down my spine. "Oh, Sarah?Yeah, I’m still technically dating her," he said with a smile as he put his hands in his pockets. "But it's not a serious. You know that she is not my type." Mira put up a perfectly curved eyebrow to act surprised. "That’s what we thought how you went for the whole bookworm vibe.” She leaned in closer and put her hand on his chest. Her voice was full of sarcasm. Justin laughed again, and this time his eyes were beaming with happiness. He said with a smile, "No, it's not like that.To be honest, I only date her to win the dare." For a moment, my breath heaved and the room spun around me. A dare? He went on, as if he didn't know I was there and my heart wasn't breaking outside the door. "She's a nerd who always has her nose in a book and turns down guys left and right. Someone had to win the bet, so I did it. It took longer than I thought, but I finally won.” Mira laughed too loudly, and her eyes were glowing with hatred. "Gosh How did you tolerate her. It looks like she got her clothes at a thrift store. It’s hilarious she thought you were serious. Poor Sarah, always so serious and… bookish,” she sneered, rolling her eyes. After that, I could hardly hear anything because my eyes were blurry from crying. I thought Justin cared about me. I thought we were real. Why am I so stupid? All this time? Every moment we spent together and every soft word he whispered in my ear went through my mind like a movie. Everything was a lie. He saw me as nothing more than a piece in a game. As I tried to swallow the lump in my throat, I pushed my feet forward. As I took a step forward, the ringing in my ears blocked out the sound of my shoes. My heart was heavy with anger and sadness. The two of them were talking so much that they didn't even notice I was standing right there. "Sarah—" Justin began, and his face turned pale when he realized I knew everything. I raised my hand and hit him hard in the face without thinking. Mira gasped when she heard the sound over the music, but I didn't care. The pain in my chest was worse than the pain in my hand. “Is that what I am to you?” My voice was shaky but steady as I spat. "Just a bet?Dare?" "Sarah, I can explain—" Justin stuttered and put his hand on his face. "Don't bother," I yelled, my eyes filled with tears that wouldn't let out. He wouldn't get any pleasure from seeing me cry. "You are pathetic. We are done." With each step, my heart broke as I turned on my heel and walked away. I didn't look back when he called after me. I couldn’t. I would break down if I did. He had my trust—how could I have been so stupid? I was in the College's private bar, and as I slid onto a stool, my legs were barely supporting me. I needed anything to ease the pain because my chest was tight and my heart was broken. The waiter gave me a drink, and I drank it all down in one gulp. The booze didn't make my pain go away, though. What did I do to let this happen? I looked at the glass in front of me and thought. That's right, I'm the one who never falls for guys like Justin. Still… I blinked to get the thoughts out of my head. But they kept coming, waves of people. I believed he liked me because of who I am. I thought we had something unique… While putting the drink down, my fingers were shaking, and I accidentally broke the glass. The man next to me got it all over his clothes. "Oh no! I'm really sorry!" I let out a gasp and grabbed some napkins to try to clean up. I spoke quickly and wildly, letting my nerves get the best of me. "I mess up so much. Just... of course, this is going to happen tonight. Everyone thinks I'm smart, but I was fooled... by him... by everyone.” I blurted out, annoyed at how stupid I was. As I reached for his jacket to clean it, he quickly reached out and grabbed my wrist in a strong but gentle way. "It’s okay," He said, in a low, firm voice. I got chills when he touched me, even though his fingers were cold. I caught my breath when I looked up and met his eyes. There was something about him that made the air around us feel charged, electric. His eyes were a striking gray that was fierce and hard to read. He was too much for me to handle, and all of a sudden I felt...hot. His look made my skin tingle and my heart beat fast. "I... I didn't mean to spill it,"I mumbled, but I couldn't take my eyes off of him. "Its fine," he said, his voice a little softer than before, but his eyes were still on mine. Before I could think about anything else, Justin's voice cut me off. "Sarah!" I turned around, grumbling to myself. Not again. Justin walked into the bar with an angry and jealous look on his face. "Why in the world are you here? You're making a fuss over nothing. You’re being ridiculous, breaking up with me just because of a stupid joke.” "A joke?" I shot back and got off the stool. "Do you think it's okay to treat someone like a toy? For a dare, but to make them feel like they were important?” Even though my voice was shaking, I stood my ground. My heart was beating fast. Justin moved closer, and his voice got quiet. "Sarah, guys will never go out with a nerdy girl like you." You should be thankful that I even—” I told him to leave by cutting him off and pointing to the door. I didn't mind that my hands were shaking. "And just so you know, I'm not alone." Justin blinked, confused for a moment. "You're not alone? What do you mean?" It took all the bravery I had to take a deep breath and point at the man next to me. "I'm with him." Justin's whole attitude changed as soon as he looked at the man next to me. His face went from being angry to something I had never seen before: fear. His voice was shaking, and he blinked quickly. "Sir...I—I didn't know," Justin stuttered as he stepped back. His voice was shaking, and he bowed his head a little. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to—” I stared at the man next to me, my mind still trying to catch up with everything. Why is he calling him Sir? Who is this person?
