What Happens Next?

Friday after school, I was leaving my locker when I was stopped by Anna "Hey Sam, look can we get together some time this weekend to work on our project please?" I sighed as I turn around to face her "Fine, you can come to my place Sunday" I replied giving her a look "Thanks, I'll see you then" she said giving me a small smile as she walked away. Jess and Austin were walking my way as she was leaving "What was that about?" Jess asked "She wants to get together to work on our project, I don't want to, but I have no choice" I replied rolling my eyes. I glanced behind me I seen Lucas was talking to Zack by Zack's locker, he looked in my direction before closing his locker to walk out of the school. Lucas came over to us and wrapped his arm around my shoulder "What was that?" I asked "Nothing, I asked him a question about homework" he replied "Right" I said giving him a smirk. Lucas doesn't really care about school, so I knew he wasn't telling me the truth but I wasn't going to start questioning him. "I'll see you girls at my place later on" Lucas said giving me a kiss before him and Austin left to go his place."It's a little weird seeing Lucas become all buddy with Zack, especially since you two are not really on speaking terms right now" Jess said getting in my car "Tell me about it" I replied "Maybe he feels bad and is just trying to be nice" Jess said giving me a smile "Maybe" I replied.

My parents were already gone when Jess and I got to my place. Mom had leftover ham from last night's supper, with scallop potatoes and corn, we ate, cleaned up, and went downstairs to work on some homework before we got ready to go to Lucas's. I couldn't wait honestly, after the week I had I needed some fun. "I know valentines day is still like over a month away, but we should go shopping for new dresses next week if you want?" Jess asked I gave her a smile "You don't need to ask me twice".

We decided to get ready around 6:30pm I wasn't feeling bright colours tonight, so wore a black sleeveless sparkle top, black leggings, with black high top boots. I left my hair down, but ran my straightener through it. Jess wore a dark purple t shirt that had Aero written on the chest in light pink with dark blue skinny jeans. She left her hair in the high pony tail she rocked during school. I packed a bag to bring with me to Lucas's since I already knew I wasn't coming back home tonight.

We got to Lucas's, I think it was just Lucas and Austin by the looks of it which I wasn't complaining. The boys were in the kitchen having a beer and talking "Hey, the beauty's made it" Lucas said walking over to me and placing a kiss on my cheek making me blush. Jess and Austin were having a mini make up session I shook my head gigging at them. Lucas handed me a key lime cherry cooler and we went upstairs to bring my bag to his bedroom "We are going to have a good time tonight okay Sam" he said grabbing both my hands before pulling me into a hug "Yes, please" I replied. We went back downstairs to be greeted by Amy and Nathan who just got here "Hey guys" Lucas said as the four of us walked back into the kitchen. Jess was sitting on Austin's lap at the kitchen table, we all joined them at the table, we were having a good time talking and laughing.

8:30pm rolled around, I had four coolers, and was feeling pretty good, Jess, Amy and I were talking around the island as the guys were still sitting at the table. I seen someone walking into the kitchen from the corner of my eye, I turned to look it was Zack, I couldn't say anything I just stood there staring at him with my mouth open "Hey buddy come on in" Lucas said waving him over to the table, Zack gave me a small look before walking over to the guys sitting at the table "What the hell is he doing here?" I asked looking at Jess "I don't know, I honestly had no idea" she replied looking towards the table. "I'm not letting him ruin my night" I said grabbing another cooler. Lucas got up from the table and walked towards me "I want to talk to you for a second" he said walking me out of the kitchen towards the hallway going to the living room grabbing both my hands "I know you're probably pissed he's here, but I invited him. Sammy, I want you to be happy but I know deep down you're not and you won't be until you and Zack talk things out. I know this isn't the best way to do it, but I didn't know what else to do. Please for me, talk to him if not now, then later on" I glanced behind me then turned back to face Lucas "Look, I know you want what's best for me but I don't know I'm ready to talk to him just yet. He really hurt me Lucas, but I won't make him feel unwelcome here" I replied walking back into the kitchen. The girls were sitting at the table now, I let out a sigh as I sat between Jess and Nathan, Zack was sitting on the other side of Nathan. I didn't want to be the Debby downer so I joined in with everyone, with talking and laughing. Austin brought up something that happened last year when we played hide and go seek at his house, and I managed to get myself locked in the spare room closet in the basement I was stuck in there for like an hour before someone heard me yelling. Austin and Zack had to take the door off the hinges to get me out.I couldn't help but laugh at that story, Zack and I made eye contact for a split second before I looked away.

I got up from the table to go upstairs to use the bathroom. When I opened the bathroom door, Zack was standing there staring at me, I rolled my eyes and was walking passed him, to be stopped by him grabbing my arm "Wait Sammy I want to talk to you" I stopped dead in my tracks and closed my eyes fighting back tears "What do you want?" I managed to say as I leaned against the wall looking at him "You have no idea how sorry I'am Sam. I'm sorry I didn't listen to you, and I was blind for not seeing Anna's true colours".I had to look away from him "Do you have any idea how much you hurt me Zack, you're my best friend and you took her side instead of mine" He took my hand and we both sat at the top of the stairs "My intentions were never to hurt you Sammy, it hurts me too you know.You mean more to me then she does. Do you have any idea how much I miss you?" "I miss you too" I replied. He pulled me for a tight hug, a hug that I wanted for the last week. As we both eased out of the hug he still had his hands on my waist, and I was inches from his face, I don't know if it was the alcohol but when we made eye contact that close, my heart starting racing I thought we were going to kiss and a part of me wanted to "Hey, you guys okay?" I heard from down the stairs, it was Jess. I snapped out of it looking down the stairs "Yeah, we are good" I replied. Jess was leaning on the banister "Good" she said smiling up at me. I looked back at Zack "We should get back downstairs" I said standing up "Sam, are we okay?" he asked standing up next to me "I think so, as long as there is no more drama"I replied giving him a smile "Promise" he said pulling in for another hug.

Jess was waiting downstairs, Zack kept walking towards the kitchen "So, what did I walk into?" she asked giving me a look "What do you mean?" I replied knowing she saw "You and Zack, you seemed close" she said giving me a smile "It's not what you think,or what it looked like, we hugged" I replied not wanting to tell her "I'm not complaining, I'm just happy no more awkwardness" she said throwing an arm around me at the same time Lucas walked in "Hey, how did it go?" he asked Jess walked back into the kitchen to let us talk "Good, I have a feeling you sent him up. Thank you" I said " I did yes, I was hoping if he talked first it would be easier" he replied "It was, but I was pissed for a split second til I listened to what he had to say" I said giving him a small smile. " I figured you would be, but I'm glad it worked out Sammy" he replied giving me a kiss before we went back to the kitchen to join everyone else. Zack and I made eye contact as I went back to my seat at the table.

Before I knew it it was 12:30am I was getting really tired. I got up from the table at the same time Amy and Nathan were getting up too, she was going to drive him home on her way home. "Thanks again for another fun night cuz" she said giving Lucas a hug "No problem, we will do this again soon" I was walking towards the fridge to get some water, Amy was standing next to me "I'm glad things worked out for you, Lucas really does care about you Sammy" she said looking in Lucas's direction I couldn't help but smile "He really does" I replied. Amy turned to look at me smiling "I'm also glad he has someone like you in his life. He seems like a different person, more happy honestly" I blushed "He's changed since I met him" I replied "Yeah, because of you" she said giving me a hug "I'll see you again soon" she added walking out of the kitchen. I walked towards the table, Jess was falling on Austin's shoulder "I'm getting tired, I'm going upstairs. I'll see you guys tomorrow" I said "Wait for me, I'm coming too" Jess said popping her head off Austin's shoulder to follow me upstairs.I went into Lucas's bedroom to change, I was laying on the bed, and I couldn't stop thinking about what almost happened between Zack and I, I kept telling myself it was the alcohol, and I will pretend it didn't happen.
