I was standing in front of a massive house, or mansion.
No! It's a palace.
Yeah! It's a palace for sure. The wall surrounding it was so high, maybe 15 feet or more. Another thing was the guard; they were so many guarding every corner of this barred place.
"This is your new home, my child. This is where you start a new life." Elder Marcos said or should I say, Uncle Marcos, who was wearing his cloak again. Just like what the gossip said, they didn't want anyone to see their faces. So, as this time, I only saw Uncle Marcos face on the seven Elders.
When we reached the front door, someone opened the door for us. Guards were inline, as a royal soldier, waiting for their highness to enter. Uncle just walked straight, same as the other Elders. They walked with authority while we just followed.
"This is like a pack house, no maids because everyone helps each other, especially if needed. The family you will see inside the palace is the family of the warrior. So, it's just a small family to be exact." He paused and turned to me, then he spread his arm wide. "Welcome to Elders Domain. This is our office and we just go here for important meetings or events. Each of us has a pack. So, all our families are in the pack houses."
We began to walk to the palace ground; of course, the twin was with us. While the other Elders, except my uncle, went to I didn't know where. The twins came with me as what my uncle said. Because my uncle knew, as long as the twin is with me, I overcome or forget the pain I was suffering. They always made me laugh with their corny jokes, and they also said, I also made them happy too.
They were two years older than me and we still understand each other suffering. Even they were not broken-hearted, but they lost their loved ones. That was the reason why we complemented each other. Hunters attacked their pack that caused the death of their parents. Almost all the pack member died, but their pack, really died that day. Some of them who survived to join another pack, some chose to stay in the institution especially all the children who lost their parents.
I was busy thinking about the life of the twins that I forgot we were walking. I stopped when everyone stopped in front of me, in front of an unknown room's door. I became curious about what's inside the closed-door because it seemed so important based on the many locks on the door.
The scent coming from the room smelled so good, so addicting, and it calmed my nerves. It smelled like Uncle Marcos scent, but a feminine one. I already guess whose room it is.
"You're right. It's your mother's room. I intentionally locked this room. I didn't want Alexandra's thing to be touched and moved by someone. Also, I love her scent. I always went here every time I missed her. Many years passed, but her scents still linger inside the room, and I want it to stay that way." Uncle said and started to open the locks.
When he finished opening all the locks, he let me be the one to open the door. "Sorry if the room is dusty. I just don't want anyone to enter this room." He said again and I nodded.
When I finally successfully opened the door, I got inside first. He's right tho, it was so dirty inside but it was alright.
The first thing that caught my eyes was a portrait. I couldn't see it clearly because of the dust. So I looked for some stuff that could remove the dust and Uncle Marcos gave it to me. I small piece of cloth that can be used to wipe the stock of dust.
I came near it and cleaned the portrait. It took me a while before I finished cleaning it. When I was done, I could see the whole thing.
I couldn't help myself to stop my tears from falling. Uncle was right. I looked like her; I'm the carbon copy of my late mother.
I thoroughly looked at her portrait until I saw that something was written in the corner. There's a name written in the right corner of the photo.
ALEXANDRA KNIGHT
"She didn't die because of giving birth to you. Yes, she died on the day that you were born, but by protecting you from the person who wanted to take you. I was not with her at that time; I went to the other city to assist them because of a disaster. But, it was just a trap set by them so they can get to you and your mom." He said those words full of regret and sorrow, and I could feel him. He was blaming himself for what happened at that time.
"Stop blaming yourself Uncle. I know, everything that happened has a reason." I said while still looking at my mom's portrait.
"I can't help but think about it. I hope I was here. I could help her, for her to survive. Then I could save you and you might be with us all this time." He paused for a while and released a deep breath. "I don't know how she managed to help you escape. All I knew was that, when we arrived here, she was already dead in the backyard. We searched for you but you're nowhere to be found." I looked at him and I saw regret and many emotions that I couldn't tell.
"Please, don't. I'm already her uncle." I convinced him and I smiled at him. He just nodded with a small smile on his lips even he was still against it.
I looked inside the room for other things that might be useful. I saw a cabinet and out of curiosity, I chose to open it. Clothes were inside. Clothes that made my tears fell again. Mama's smell lingered inside and to my nostril when I smelled it. Mama's scent was so strong like she just used all the things inside just a few days ago.
I got one of her clothes. Tears falling from my eyes even I wanted to stop crying, I just couldn't. I hugged my mama's dress. I just let myself cry, for the last time. That was the only time I graved for my mother's death. I cried my heart out, wishing for my mother to hear me and help me with all the pain I was suffering.
Not too long, I stopped crying. With a few hiccups, as I looked in the closet, one outfit caught my attention. It was all black and I knew it fit. It was liked what was usually used by an assassin in a movie. I took it off from the hanger and checked it. It's nice.
"Can I have this?" I asked my uncle as I let him see the outfit. Uncle Marcos just smiled and agreed. I smiled too to him for my thank you.
Next, I came near to the table. I saw things there, but I didn't see even a single thing that could tell who my papa is. So, I asked.
"Uncle, do you know who is my papa?" I asked him still looking at the things on the table. I didn't see any important matter so I went to the bookshelf near the table.
"I'm sorry, my child. Even I don't know who your papa is. Your mother didn't tell me anything about that matter." He said. I just bowed my head down feeling disappointed.
I looked inside the room again until I saw a box on the bed. It was so flat that you couldn't see it in one look. I got it and tried to open it. But there was a keyhole. I looked closely until I remembered something. I think the key was like the pendant of my necklace. The necklace I owned since they saw me when I was still a baby. That was the only thing I had since I was born.
Using my necklace, I opened it. In just a turn of the key and it's clicked, it unlocked. Even Uncle Marcos got curious so he went near me. There was a book inside and on the cover, words were written. ‘FOR MY BABY, CASSANDRA KNIGHT.’
"I don't know that she already named you. She kept it in secret." He said with a smile and I thought he remembered his time with mama.
I tried to open the book, but I couldn't. I even shook it, but nothing happened. It was really like a piece of wood.
And my eyes saw something interesting. The bookshelf had a missing book.
Every book had a letter, some were double. And as I looked at the book I was holding, there's a letter too. So I concluded that I needed to arrange the book.
I tried the name written in the book.
CASSANDRA KNIGHT
And as I put the last book in the end, the bookshelf started to move. 'Woo', 'Wow', and 'What the?' were the words came out from our mouth cause of surprise.
What surprised us more, were what behind the shelf.
It was just a different kind of weapon. Different kinds of guns, I didn't know the name because it was my first time seeing that kind of gun. Samurai, dagger, or blade of different sizes, there's a boomerang, grenade, and a star-like thing that always use by ninja's; I don't know the name, so sorry for that.
I also saw a small box in the center. And when I opened it, a book and a locket were inside. The locket was like a watch that was used by old times. I wanted to open it, but there was a letter too.
Read the book first before you open the locket.
So, I just put all the things I got in my bag. And when I looked at my company, they still have ogling eyes. "Uncle, I want to leave mama's thing. Hence, I still don't know how to use it." I said while scratching my nape.
"Ahm... Okay... If that's what you want. It stays here and I just locked it up." They all moved backward so I could close it properly. I also put back all the things I'd touch to its original position.
We chose to get out of the room and locked it again. We continued our tour all over the palace like what we planned earlier.
And I was also excited to read the book, to find the truth; especially, who My Father is.
We were in the dining area. The twin chose to take a rest so I was alone with all the Elders.
When the cook put down the food in the center, they excused themselves and got out of dining. They all closed every entrance even the window. I got curious.
Then, the Elders removed their cloak. I thought they were all so old, but I made a big mistake. They were still young looking, but don't be deceived by their appearance.
Everyone introduces themselves to me.
“I'm Marcos Knight,” my Uncle spoke first who's sitting at the head of the table.
“I'm Athena Lee,” another woman Elder spoke with a pleasant smile on her face.
“Greg Salvador,” a serious one told me his name and started to eat without asking.
“Crain McRight, my lady.” And he gave me a charming smile that made my Uncle cleared her throat. “Hey, I know my limits. Relax!” He said while snickering.
“Veronica Cross,” a cold voice said across me, who was intently looking at me.
“I'm Josua Parker,” he also wore a pleasant smile on his face.
“And I'm the most handsome Elder, Russel Anderson at your service.” And he playfully winked at me that made me smile.
“Hi, everyone.” I timidly said.
They let me see their faces, and it was an honor, not all got an opportunity as I have.
We were eating but my mind still thinking about my mama. Someone wanted to kill me, I didn't know if it was on-going.
"Tomorrow, we are going to the pack house and I'll introduce you to them," Uncle said they brought me back from my hard thinking. But I had another plan.
"Uncle, how many people see your face and mama's face? The enemy saw her too, right?" I asked him. And I saw the confusion in his eyes, so I continued. "I just… I didn't want them to know I'm mama's daughter. I didn't want the past to repeat. And I'm not yet ready to face them, the enemy." I explained to him and he just nodded.
"If that's what you want. What more?" Uncle Marcos asked me now.
"Don't treat me like I'm above you all. I'll use my true name. No one knew about my name so it's fine. Just tell them that I just use your surname or you adopt me if it's fine with you, uncle." I said with my head bow down.
"Okay. I'll tell them that I adopted you, like what Crain does. It's not new to us to adopt if we know they are strong." And he smiled.
"And Uncle, I just want a hooded shirt, jeans, and glasses. Just some disguise." And he just smiled again.
We continued our supper. Even the Elders approved of my idea.
Just like what uncle said, we went to his pack house. I liked it. And I will not live with them so it was fine with me.
I approached my cousin; she was two years older than me. And I couldn't deny to her that we're cousin cause of her wolf who eventually recognized me. Just liked how I knew her father as my uncle.
We didn't stay long and went to our main destination, the HUNTER SHIELD ORGANIZATION. where different kinds of creatures lived together but they never fought.
And that was the start. I'd live in the dormitory while I was still on my training.
I hope, I can do it and survive. THIS WILL BE THE START OF EVERYTHING!!!
