Chapter Thirteen: A Locating Spell

2108 Words
Maeve This was it. We were finally going to try and locate my mate. Elyes. I was excited and scared. I was worried about his reaction. Would he be angry or would he be happy? I saw the hatred behind those electric blue eyes and I didn´t know why it was there, but it was so obvious. I remembered Eden telling me about the attack on their coven, about the night Elyes disappeared and never returned home again. Those were rogues´ doing. I hated them too. They were vicious creatures and destroyed everything within their reach. Killing supernaturals and conquering territories that didn´t belong to them. Was that the reason? But how did he end up with the dark warlock if he was taken by rogues? There were a lot of questions that needed to be explained and only one that knew the right answers. We needed to find him and learn those things if we were to be able to protect all those innocent hybrids and Lucas. "Alright," I nodded my head, giving a green light to my Luna, "Let´s do this!" I said to her determinedly. We would be starting with the locating spell right now. She smiled at me encouragingly and waved her hand, making a caldron appear out of nowhere and fall to the dinner table with a loud thud. I leant over to see a light yellow liquid inside as Violet came over to stand next to me. She pulled a knife out of the cabinet and a translucent crystal out of the palm of her hand. It was attached to a short silver thread. The crystal shone in the sunlight, showing all the colors of the rainbow. It was an incredible sight, almost hypnotic. She put the crystal on the counter next to her and focused on the bubbling yellow liquid in the caldron. I stood up from my chair and went over to her, standing behind her as her calming Luna's presence immediately made me feel better. I watched in awe the image in front of me. I had never seen a witch brewing a potion, but it was mesmerizing. The yellow potion was bubbling slowly as the vapors were lifting and clouding the air around us. It smelled of coffee and cinnamon. The scent of my mate and I felt longing and desire awakening inside me. "Can you bring the map?" she asked me as she continued to murmur some words in Latin that I didn´t understand, but I assumed it was a spell. I nodded before realizing that she couldn´t see me, "Yes, I will be back in a minute," I said to her as I ran out of the kitchen and up the strains to my room. I took the paper map from my bedside table and sprinted back to Violet. I basically took two stars in one and was quite amused and proud that I didn´t fall down and break something. In record time, I entered the kitchen with a huge map in my hand. "Spread it on the kitchen island, please." Violet told me not even glancing at my direction, but now that I knew she was pregnant, I noticed that her senses were highlighted and she was more aware of her surroundings, sensing the presence with of other person and a very sensitive nose. "Got it, Luna." I told her playfully, making her turn around and flip me. She learnt quite quickly from Sawyer. "The potion is almost finished," Violet said to me and I felt my heartbeat speed up, "Now I just need your blood," she smiled as she handled me a knife. Before I could cut the palm of my hand I heard someone enter the house and the footsteps nearing the kitchen. The buttery scent of freshly baked bread filled my nostrils together with a aroma of thyme, letting me know that it was Jonah who came. What was he doing here? He should be training like the rest! I quickly took the map folding it and shoving it into my back pocket while Violet put the crystal into the cupboard. Before we could remove and hide the caldron Jonah appeared in the doorway with a grin on his face. "Good morning ladies!" His baritone voice called. "Hi Jonah," Violet greeted him standing right in front of the caldron where the potion was bubbling. "Hey!" I told him waving awkwardly making him raise eyebrows. Not suspicious at all. Good job Maeve! So much for covering our secret. We agreed it would be for the best if no one other knew what we planned to do. Nobody other than Violet knew my mate was Elyes and I wanted to stay that way for now. I wasn´t ready to say it out loud to anyone else. Jonah was holding a loaf of bread as he walked to the kitchen island and put it in the basket. He then turned around and narrowed his eyes watching us carefully with a scrutinizing gaze. "What is going on here?" he asked us with a curiosity in his voice. "Nothing," I told him casually, "We are cooking some soup." I lied with a small smile. "Okay," he shrugged and turned around to leave going around me, but when he was almost at the door he spun abruptly and ran to Violet pushing her out of the way softly. His eyes widened when he saw the caldron and he looked at us with a silent question, wanting to know what it was. Damn his stubbornness! Didn´t he know that curiosity killed the cat? Bloody hell! "What is this? A potion?" Jonah asked with his big mouth, his pale green eyes switching between Violet and I. At that moment, I saw panic fill Violet´s eyes as she took the first thing in hand, which was a frying pan, and hit Jonah hard on the side of his head. His head slumped forward and he hit the countertop with his forehead before his body fell on the ground. Double hit! "Why the hell did you do that for?" I whispered-yelled towards Violet as we were both watching unconscious Jonah slumped on the floor. "I..., I... don´t know," she stuttered, looking at the frying pan in her hand, "I panicked!" "I didn´t want him to know what we were doing here. I didn´t tell Sawyer and if it comes to it, I want to confess on my own," she explained, and I felt instantly guilty as I was the one responsible for all this mess. "Of course. You are right." I nodded my head, "Great hit, by the way." I told her in appreciation before we both burst into the laughter. I knew we probably should be laughing at Jonah´s unconscious body, but it was quite hilarious. I was so sad and nervous, distraught and in pain for so many days that my own laugher seemed almost foreign to me. The frying pan hit the ground with a loud tud as Violet was laughing her ass off and after we were both finished with the tears of laughter in our eyes we rushed to Jonah´s side and checked his head for wounds. Letting out heavy sign of relief she turned around facing me, "There is no blood, he will probably just have a massive headache," she concluded with a slight nod of encouragement, probably for herself. "Oh, thank the Goddess! I know I should be laughing but his face before he hit the counter was priceless!" I giggled again, shaking my head. "Yeah, it must have been comical," she looked at Jonah with a smirk, now that we knew he was alive, "He probably deserved it at one point in his life," "Yeah, I can actually recall a lot of moments where I would love to knock him out cold with a frying pan." I smiled at Violet as she mirrored my expression and in no time we were both laughing like crazy again. "What are we going to do with him?" I asked as I picked up the frying pan and put it back on its place. It was heavy in my hand as I imagined how much it would most likely hurt when Jonah woke up. I should not be happy about his pain, but to be honest, lately he was pissing me off so much, that I could have justified the hit Violet delivered. The only thing I regretted was that it wasn´t my hand holding the pan. "I will send him to his room," Violet said, and then murmured something under her breath, waving her hand as a white light appeared and then Jonah´s body was gone. "There," she said, "And now we can continue," she told me and gestured on the small knife. I took it and cut the palm of my hand, seeing the blood oozing out of the wound. I dropped the knife and got closer leaning over the caldron. "Three drops are enough," Violet instructed, and I saw how three deep red drops of my blood fell into the bright yellow liquid. Right after the last drop fell, the color changed to deep purple and the smell changed, mixing with the scent of roasted sugar nuts. The bubbling stopped for a second before a cloud of grey appeared over the caldron. I looked down at my palm seeing that my healing powers were already working and the wound was closed. "Sanguis sodalis tui vocat, vinculum te inveniet," Violet´s voice came and it sounded rough and raspy. "Sanguis sodalis tui vocat, vinculum te inveniet," she carried on saying, increasing the volume of her voice slightly after every sentence and soon she was screaming what I assumed to be a spell. The potion started bubbling again, but this time it was faster and I felt heat coming from the potion. It was like cooking on fire, the molecules of the liquid moving so fast and creating such energy that was emitted into the environment, making a sweat appear on our foreheads. The huge bubbles appeared on the surface and then the color changed once again. This time it was lighter purple, almost like my hair. Violet took the crystal from the cupboard and dipped it into the potion a few times as if she was infusing a tea. After a minute, she pulled it out and I saw that the crystal was now completely purple. I spread the map on the dining table and Violet started to move the crystal on the silver thread around in circles. It was rotating above the map of the country like a carousel. I was holding my breath nervous and excited to find out it the potion and spell actually worked. If I still had a chance to find Elyes on my own and not wait for him to emerge on his own. The thread attached to the crystal made a whooshing sound before it landed on the map showing us the place where my mate was staying right now. "This doesn´t seem right," Violet whispered, sounding confused, and I leant over to see the position where the crystal was pointing. I frowned and looked over at my Luna as our gazes connected. I lifted one of my eyebrows, "What is this supposed to mean? Did the locating spell fail?" I asked her, my voice shaking and in distress as I felt myself starting to panic. "No," she said, shaking her head with vigor, "The spell didn´t fail. It shows the exact position where Elyes is right now." her voice was steady and determined. I looked at the map again and again, but nothing changed. I tried to move the crystal but it was stuck. It felt as heavy as a giant rock, not moving at all as I tugged. I took a deep breath and pointed my finger at the position on the map next to the crystal, where we were now standing in real life. "That´s not possible," I whispered as I closed my eyes feeling a foreign, but at the same time, known presence within my reach. "He is here!" Violet confirmed my suspicion. My eyes once more wondered at the map as the crystal showed the exact position of our western pack border where my mate should be right now. "What the hell!" I said before I heard the loud noise of alarm going on.
