Maeve
Oh dear Moon Goddess!
He was here!
He was at the borders!
What was he doing here? Was he here for another attack? I didn´t know, but I needed to go there and see him.
´Clive?´ I mind-linked a warrior I knew was on patrol today as I saw him on my morning run.
´Gamma?´ he mind-linked back.
´What is happening?´ I asked him as the alarm stopped.
´There is a warlock at the border and he has Lucas with him!´ Clive told me making me gasp as the information was registered.
´What the hell! Just don´t hurt him, Clive!´ I linked him urgently.
´We would never hurt Lucas!´ Clive linked back a little angry.
´I meant the warlock,´ I said back, cutting the link as I turned and told Violet the new information.
"Elyes is at the border and apparently he has Lucas with him!" I said to Violet as she looked at me with surprise in her eyes.
"What? How?" she asked me and I shrugged because I also had no idea how exactly it was possible.
"I don´t know," I told her honestly.
Did he bring Lucas back home or way it just a distraction? Did he really change his mind or was he here spying on us? I didn´t know but my wolf, Maya, was growling, scratching a barking for me to move and go to him. To make sure he was alright and nobody touched even a hair on his head. My body moved on instinct towards the borders, ready to shift and ran as fast as possible to him.
"We have to go to Sawyer!" Violet spoke, snapping me out of my thoughts, and now it was my time to be surprised.
"What? Why?" I asked her flabbergasted.
"You need to tell him that Elyes is your mate before he does something reckless as trying to attack and kill him!" she told me, "If he knows that he is your mate, maybe just maybe he could ... you know not kill him." she whispered in the end.
"That is actually a good idea," I told her agreeing as we started to run towards the pack house and office.
I took three steps at the time rushing towards the office, my heart ready to jump out of my chest from the fear and excitement of seeing my mate. I broke the door down seeing as Sawyer was ready to leave, ready to fight and protect his pack. His powerful Alpha aura sweeping through every pore, hitting me fully as I was catching my breath not knowing where to start.
"What is going on?" Sawyer asked us with an impatient and excited voice.
The border patrol, for sure had already informed him that a wizard was at the border. He was looking at Violet, but turned to me when she didn´t answer him. I could say he was losing his patience and wanted to go there as soon as possible but we were slowing him down.
"I need to go! There is warlock at our border with Lucas!" he said urgently, trying to walk around us, but we blocked the exit.
"We know," said Violet, nodding her head as Sawyer looked at her confused.
"We came here to tell you that he... he..." I started to say.
"He what? What are you trying to say?" he asked me with an angry voice and blazing eyes.
"What I am saying is, that the warlock is my mate." I managed to get out, ripping the bandaid off.
"You got to be kidding me!" Sawyer roared, his voice laced with fury, and I could hear Soren there too.
"It´s true, Sawyer. I am sorry I didn´t tell you sooner, but ..." I couldn´t find the right words to describe what I was going through after finding out that my mate was most probably dead and I would never meet him.
I felt so lost and heartbroken, I didn´t want to talk to anyone. I couldn´t express the grief and sorrow that was gripping my body and soul in a hard and inescapable hug.
"How did you find out?" Sawyer asked and I saw it in his dark blue eyes.
His voice was still very angry and laced with the dominance of an Alpha, making me feel the power over me he had over me and Maya. I could see the thousands of questions in his eyes and on his lips he wanted me oo answer, but there was no time for them now.
"Are you certain?" Sawyer asked me with a blank face, but I could see his eyes were angry and his voice was shaking.
"I am," I told him seeing him take a deep breath as he shook his head disappointed.
I was pleading with my eyes, that were full of promises to tell him every little detail once all this was over, but now we simply didn´t have time. If there was to be another attack, we needed to act.
"Let´s go!" The Alpha order sounded and I couldn´t be more happy.
I was finally going to see my mate again. Maya was jumping up and down from the excitement of seeing her mate again. To smell his intoxicating coffee and cinnamon scent, to see his fiery red hair and electric blue eyes. I wondered if he would recognise me. If he behaved differently. If he acknowledged our bond. If he even knew what it was. He was a wizard after all, but they were still able to feel the bond fully.
We ran out of the pack house and shifted immediately to our wolves. Violet sat on Sawyer´s back and I was already running towards the border, desperate to get there. The mate bond was pulling me towards him. With every meter I ran, the connection was closer and growing stronger. Soren was running faster than me as he was larger and an Alpha with longer and more powerful legs, but I kept up his tempo with all my might, scared of what would happen once we entered the borders.
I could sense that Jonah was up and ready after our little stunt we did on him. He was running closely behind us and soon I could feel him breathing down my neck. He ran around me and barked angrily at me while mind-linking me that I would need to explain to him everything soon. He had a solid reason to be angry with me and Violet, but right now it was the last thing on my mind. His wounded head and possibly also pride.
The pack bond was vibrating with all the different links and orders Sawyer was sending while running, as Archer and a small group of his warriors were closing on us at the same time at the other groups were checking the rest of the borders around the pack.
Finally, we reached the border and I could see the group of border patrol warriors standing around a figure circling him carefully while in their wolf forms, ready to attack and kill him at any given moment. I couldn´t let that happen as I tried to get through Sawyer, but Jonah was blocking me and Jay even growled at Maya. However, we didn´t back away and roared back as much as we could, desperate to get to our mate.
The need to see him was overpowering and gave me the strength I needed to push through two more powerful wolves getting in the front of them and then I saw him.
My mate.
Elyes.
In flesh and bones he was standing there, strong, unmoving and unbothered by tens of wolves circling him, Alpha and Beta roaring in his direction. My eyes were transfixed on him and I didn´t even notice Lucas with his father Dean embracing on the side. Just the knowledge that Lucas was safe and sound was making me feel better, but my whole focus was on him.
He was even more handsome than I remembered him. It was the mate bond snapping on second sight. I was in love instantly, while I shifted to human revealing my naked body to him and basically everyone else around. His electric eyes went wide and his blank face slipped for a second as he frowned and groaned before gathering himself, but I could see the fire blazing behind those deep blue eyes as they swiped through my naked form. He took his black cloak off and threw it in my direction.
I caught it and wrapped the thick and soft fabric around me. The intoxicating aroma of roasted coffee and cinnamon hit my senses full force as his scent was all over the cloak. All I wanted was to run and jump into his arms, humping him like a horny dog I was, but I just took a deep breath, which wasn´t the brightest idea, as the scent hit me even more powerfully. I had to close my eyes and push Maya and my desire down.
Breathing heavily, I opened my eyes and was met with his electric blue ones that penetrated my soul and took my breath away. The butterflies in my stomach were like a hive. My heart was painfully beating inside my chest as the thread of the mate bond started to weave between us, pulling us closer and pushing for the bond to intertwine our souls.
I was drunk from his scent that was embedded inside the cloak, overwhelmed by his presence, thrilled by watching him move knowing he was real and alive. His electric blue eyes were watching me intently, blazing with a literal fire inside them as I could feel the heat radiating off him in massive waves.
His hands were fisted and I could see the protruding veins on his sculptured arms that were revealed when he took off the cloak I was now wearing. He was tall and wellbuilt, lean and fit, not like a werewolf, but smaller in muscles, nonetheless an impressive physique. I could see his ripped chest under the shirt he was wearing and I was sure he would be sculptured to perfection underneath.
He was already perfect for me.
I never knew I had a thing for red-heads, but seeing my mate made me go wild and crazy with need to run my fingers through his ginger locks. The hair reminded me of the colour of flames and I wanted to burn in his arms.
The pack border wolves were circling around him growling and snarling, ready to bite his head off his neck when the order would come from their Alpha to attack.
´Sawyer, please order them to retreat!´ I begged him as Soren got down, letting Violet jump down before the dark blond wolf shifted to my best friend.
"Elyes," Violet whispered, and I turned around seeing her grey eyes filled with tears and look of disbelief.
My mate shifted his gaze from me to her, tilting his head as if he was trying to remember who it was, but then shook his head while the look of indifference stayed on his handsome face. The blue in his eyes was shinning like lightning, so intense and distinctive that I was sure it could glow even in the darkness.
"You are alive!" Violet exclaimed as her hand went to cover her mouth.
She took one step closer to him, but Sawyer held her back, wrapping an arm around her waist. My gaze returned to my mate, who narrowed his eyes at the couple in front of him as Violet asked, "Don´t you remember me? Violet?"
He looked her up and down studying carefully, his eyes still so cold and calculative, hooded with secrecy, not revealing any emotion. It was like looking into a void.
"I do not know you," Elyes told her coldly with a blank expression.
"What happened to you?" she asked him, her voice breaking and I could hear her sniffing.
My heart was breaking from hearing my Luna cry as I could feel her sadness and from the cold stare my mate was giving me. He regarded me with a stone-cold expression, his eyes were glinting, but I couldn´t read the emotions behind it, if there were some.
How could someone with fire power be so cold?
"Why are you here in my territory?" Sawyer asked him with a voice full of dominance and power, making even me tremble.
"I am returning what was taken from you," Elyes spoke with a deep and husky voice and hearing his voice for the first time caused my knees to wobble and my heart pound faster in my chest.
His gaze shifted to the right and I saw Lucas who was crying on his father´s shoulder as they were embracing each other happy to finally be together after the days of torment.
"Forgive me, warlock, but I struggle to believe you," Sawyer said mockingly.
"Believe what you want," he continued to say, looking right into Sawyer´s intense eyes, his gaze not wavering the slightest, "But know that I came in peace."
"So, you want to tell me that out of nowhere you had a change of heart and decided to bring Lucas back home after kiddapping him?" Sawyer continued to ask and I even had to admit it sounded a bit ridiculous.
"Yes," Elyes simply said, not bothering to explain or defend himself.
"Why would you bring him back just like that?" Jonah asked from behind Sawyer, coming closer towards my mate, who just shrugged, not answering, but his eyes moved connecting our gazes and for the first time, I saw some emotion in them.
Was it lust? Or maybe longing? I couldn´t read it as it was gone as fast as it came.
"How do we know this is not just a game?" Sawyer demanded.
"I don´t play games, Wolf." Elyes said so coldly that I almost shivered.
"Why shouldn´t I tell my warriors to kill you right away?" Sawyer asked him folding his hands.
A cold wicked smile spread on Elyes´s lips, "You should, but if you don´t want them to die with a painful dead, I would recommend you to hold your horses."
Sawyer snorted unimpressed, "I could kill you with my bare hands," he exclaimed.
"I have had enough of this chitchat," Elyes said, looking bored, "I will take my leave now." his voice was resolute and his gaze cold as ice.
He didn´t even look in my direction as he said it causing my heart to shatter into a million pieces like crystal glass. Didn´t he feel the bond? Didn´t he want me? I was once again broken and this time I didn´t think it would be possible to glue the pieces together.
"You are not going anywhere!" Sawyer screamed, "Warriors!"
Immediately, a dozen of new warriors with Archer entered the border from different sides, creating a double circle around my mate and cutting the sight of him for me. I couldn´t let anything happen to him so I looked towards Sawyer connecting our eyes.
´Please Sawyer! Alpha! I beg of you!´ I mind-link him, ´Don´t hurt him!"
´He is an enemy, Meave!´ Sawyer linked back, ´I am protecting the pack!´
´No, he is my mate!´ I pleaded, feeling the tears gather in my eyes.
´Mate or not, he is a warlock!´ Sawyer argued, ´He will die!´
´Please! What if it was Violet? Would you kill her too?´ I asked him, seeing as he roared at me.
´Don´t compare the two entirely different things!´ He said to me with an Alpha voice making me whimper while holding Violet close.
She was watching the tennis match between Sawyer and me, trying to understand what was wrong as she hugged him to make him relax and calm before whispering into his ear. I could see the warriors closing on my mate, ready to leap and rip him apart.
´Please Sawyer! If you care about me at all, you will not kill my mate!´ I begged him while a single tear fell from my eye.
For a second, my eyes connected with Elyes´s and I could see his electric blue changing into an orange one. He was ready to fight the wolves with his magic. He would for sure defend himself with his fire magic, causing huge damage to our warriors.
"Fine! Don´t attack!" Sawyer exclaimed at the end after our staring competition and I saw the wolves retreat slightly, "But lock him up!"
´Did you bring them?´ Sawyer asked Archer and I saw him nod his head as he took out the shackles charmed by the High Priestess that were used for imprisoning magicians.
A wave of relief washed over me as I heard his words and I felt like I could finally breathe. At least for now, my mate was alive and safe, but I wasn´t sure what would come next. I knew I could never lose him. It would kill me and Maya. For now he was safe, but we would need to sneak into the dungeon and talk with him. Find out if he really had a change of heart or if this was all just a trap.
Archer walked towards Elyes without any fear or uncertainty in his steps as he cuffed him. I was surprised Elyes let him. His eyes shifted and connected with mine. There was a literal fire burning in his irises making me inhale deeply.
I got a second chance for happiness and I would do everything in my power to not waste it.
