Chapter Sixteen: Sneaking Inside The Dungeon

3019 Words
Maeve “Absolute bollocks!” Jonah shouted after I told them everything. From how I found out who my mate was, thinking he was already dead, finally clarifying to them why I was so detached and depressed these past few days. We were back inside Sawyer’s office in the pack house where I was pacing restlessly, talking fast and gesturing with my hands. He was really angry and not only because I hid things in front of them, but also from our earlier knock out in the kitchen. Although we explained to him what we were performing and why we did what we did to him, he still wasn´t pleased with our arguments. Anyway, that was the last of my problems. Jonah would eventually shake his wounded pride off. While Jonah was consed by anger and offended, Archer was quiet and observing. He had always been the brooding and silent type providing support without necessary words or action. I appreciated his calmness and objectivity. He didn´t comment on my situation, but I could feel his worry about me through the bond. His mismatched dark brown and pale blue eyes were as firm and intense as ever not giving anything away. I, on the other hand, expressed all my emotions as I was very distraught, feeling my heart beating painfully in my chest, pushing me to go back to my mate. The bond was already created between us, the thread intertwined our hearts, and it was growing stronger and more demanding by second. My wolf Maya was howling inside me sorrowfully, scratching the surface and demanding for me to move and find our mate, to assure that he was alright and unharmed, to run to his arms, to kiss and preferably mate with him on the spot. I wanted it too, but I was realistic, knowing there was a snowball chance in hell to do as such right now. I would be thankful if I could be in his presence, if I could see him, if he was willing to talk with me. “I need to go to him! I need to see him, Sawyer! Please!” I begged him, willing to go to my knees in front of him, desperate and “No,” Sawyer said vehemently using his Alpha voice, making me obey his command instantly as Maya whimpered inside me and retreated to the back of my head howling restlessly from being denied seeing her mate. “He is dangerous, Maeve!” Sawyer continued to say with a little bit softer voice as he probably saw the tears rimming my eyes and heard my heart broke, “I don´t want anything to happen to you nor I want to endanger the pack.” “He won´t hurt me,” I told him with resolute belief in my voice. He shook his head looking at me almost disappointed, but I could see a hint of sorrow, “You don´t know that. He is a warlock, a dark warlock for that matter. He doesn’t feel the bond as we do.” “That is utter bullshit!” Violet told him with anger in her eyes, “We feel the bond the same as you werewolves or do you think that I don´t love you as much as you love me?” she challenged him. “What? No!” he said lifting his hands as a shield from his mate´s rage, “I didn´t mean it that way. You and he are completely different, Violet.” “We are both magicians with a werewolf mate. We grew up in the same coven, so what is so different about us?” she asked him throwing her hands in the air and I could see she was starting to get pissed. She was pregnant with a werewitch hybrid after all. Her hormones must be going crazy. For as long as I knew my Luna she was a very level-headed and fair person. She was the water to Sawyer´s fire. Keeping him grounded and cool as a cucumber, but now it seemed she had enough. Jonah and Archer were both watching the match going on between our leaders, but while Archer´s calm and collected nature didn´t give any indication anyway on which side he was, Jonah was supporting Sawyer´s claims by nodding his head every time he said something. I really wanted to use the frying pan and smack him unconscious again. “He is evil!” Sawyer claimed and I felt my heart break even more if that was possible. It was already shattered into a million small pieces lying on the ground, but now his words were like an arrow piercing through me, like a stone crushing the pieces to dust. “That is simply not true,” Violet spoke with a determined voice, her grey eyes shinning with belief, “If he was truly evil from the beginning, he would never save my life!” “Saved your life?” I asked her, surprised. “Yes,” she said to me with a small smile, “You know that night Elyes disappeared my oven was attacked by the group of rogues. I now remember that Elyes was the wizard that threw the rogue who jumped at me away giving me the time to escape.” Violet admitted as she closed her eyes before the tears rolled down her cheeks. “Oh, Flower.” Sawyer sighed as he came over and hugged his distraught mate close to him, “I really understand your need to return the favour, but I cannot endanger the pack like that. Right now, he is a threat I need to eliminate.” My blood ran cold when he said it and I was speechless, just a growl escaped from me. I couldn´t lose him again. I wouldn´t survive such pain and loss. I wasn´t that strong and the worst thing I didn´t want to be. “Please don´t be unreasonable, Sawyer.” Violet said scowling as if he said the most idiotic thing in the world, “give him a chance. Give Meave a chance to get to know her own mate,” she pleaded my case. “I am not unreasonable, Violet!” he told her determined, “I am just afraid of her safety!” “Elyes would never hurt her!” Violet defended, making my heart swell with affection towards my new Luna and current best friend. “How do you know? You haven´t seen him in nine years! A person can change rapidly in such a long time and more so if he was under the influence of the dark warlock!” Sawyer argued and I saw his point. As Alpha he had a huge responsibility lying on his shoulders. Protecting the pack and its residents. I fully understood, but my patience was clouded by the mate bond. Somehow, I knew he would never harm me in any way. The look he gave me on the border, so possessive and heated, left me breathless and throbbing down there. If he desired me, he wouldn´t hurt me, right? “Please, Sawyer! Let me see him just one time. Let me talk to him. Let me find out if he is really that evil and a threat to the pack. If he is ... I...” I couldn´t even continue as my voice broke and my eyes were once again filled with tears. Jonah came over to me and hugged me to him holding me tight as I sobbed into his chest, feeling the soft fabric of his cotton shirt getting stained with my tears. He sent me reassuring words through our shared mind-link, but it simply did nothing to me. I was already far gone in my own little pitiful world. “Meave,” he called me gently with all the sibling love he had for me shining in his dark blue eyes, making them appear lighter, “You know our rules and therefore know I cannot allow that.” he confirmed what I was already dreading to hear. I saw Violet´s face scrunch in thoughtful expression before her eyes shone with mischief. She figured something out and I was praying to the Moon Goddess that it would work, because I was simply losing all my willpower and hope. “” “Sawyer?” Violet asked him as her eyes darted to me and then the door, trying to pass me a silent message. “What?” Sawyer asked her angrily, but then his furious eyes softened when he looked at him mate. He gulped and pressed his eyes shut, rubbing his forehead before his looked at his Luna, “I am sorry, what is it, Flower?” he asked her with a honey-smooth voice. His whole demeanour changed in the blink of an eye when his mate was close. She kept him grounded and calm, relaxed and made him go soft like butter in the sun. “I need to tell you something very important. I was going to wait until evening when we were alone, but I think you should now.” she said to him mysteriously, making Sawyer frown. “What is it? Has something happened to you?” he asked, concerned, holding her face in his hands and I saw once more that her eyes darted into the door. She was sending me a message. Giving me a signal to run when she would drop the bomb. My Luna was one more saving my life and I couldn´t be more grateful. I would be forever in her debt. “I am pregnant!” she spoke making Jonah and even Archer gasp while Sawyer was gaping like a fish. “Everyone out!” he shouted when he finally snapped out of his thoughts. I didn´t waste a second as I ran out of the door, not caring if someone was shouting my name wanting me to wait. I couldn´t care less whether Jonah or Archer were following me. I was going to sneak inside the dungeon and see my mate! I only had one mission in mind and no one would stop me unless they wanted to get their head bitten off. I sprinted towards the dungeon I knew my mate was in. Strolling casually past the security, I opened the door with a password, going through determinedly. No one could stop me. I was going to see my mate and I would not take no for an answer. I would fight with all my might. Maya was growling in agreement inside me scratching and barking, demanding me to move faster. The smell of coffee and cinnamon hit me like a ton of bricks, knocking me down immediately. It was so alluring and sensual. Calming and arousing at the same time. I made myself walk slower, hiding the excitement of being close to my mate again as I took two steps at the time before appearing on the long hallway leading to the cells. In the end, he stood a guard. He saw me coming and immediately got into the right position. I walked casually, forcing myself not to run and ruining all my plans. I recognized the guard, it was one of the newest and barely trained ones. I guess I was lucky today. “Good afternoon, Gamma.” Tucker, the guard, greeted me with a soft boyish smile, his shaggy brown hair moving as he bowed his had while his light caramel eyes held curiosity and caution. “Good afternoon, Tucker.” I greeted him back, seeing as his eyes shone with happiness when I called him by his name, “I came to visit the prisoner.” I stated my reason with determination and ease not wanted to appear giddy and excited, even though I f*****g was. “But Alpha didn´t give permission for any visits, Gamma Maeve,” Tucker said to me with a suspicion in his voice before his eyes clouded. He was for sure trying to mind-link Sawyer. I had to stop him! “Alpha Sawyer and his Luna are currently indisposed, if you know what I mean.” I told him with a slight smirk, playing the part, “I don´t think he would appreciate your disturbance.” I suggested with raised eyebrows. “I…,” he gulped as his eyes turned back to the original colour of light caramel brown before he nodded, “Alright, Gamma.” He opened the door for me with a glove as silver would burn him and I carefully walked through, hearing the door close behind me loudly. I waited for my eyes to adjust to the dark before I strode straight through the room seeing the empty cell searching for that special someone. My eyes adjusted to the dark and were scanning the space like a police dog. And then I found him! I saw him in the last cell at the end of the room as I slowly and as silently as I could, made my way over there. I didn´t want him to sense me just yet. I wanted to soak in the vision of him, smell the enticing scent of my mate and enjoy looking at him without him noticing. “I know you are here,” he said with a calm, low and throaty voice as I came closer to the cell. My steps flattered a little as I didn’t expect him to hear me. I was moving quietly, watching and observing him. It wasn’t possible for him to see me as it was totally dark down here in the dungeon. The only source of light was a small lightbulb placed right in front of his cell. If I came even closer, he would be able to see me, but he already sensed my presence. The reason was because we were mates, we would always feel each other. Maya and I longed for him, to touch him for the first time, to see his electric blue eyes with blazing fire inside. He was a powerful wizard with the ability to control and manipulate fire. It was hot! Literally. I plugged up the courage and stepped up to the light, getting just a few feet away from him. He stood up from the dirty floor and walked to the bars. He was tall and fit. His electric blue eyes were glowing in the darkness as he tilted his head to the side and observed me. I could feel the heat radiating off him, but I didn’t know if it was the fire power that made his temperature so high. It could very well match mine as werewolves were naturally hot creatures. His glowing, but cold gaze moved up my body finishing on my face and connecting with my hazel eyes. I gasped as I felt the mate bond snap in place again, the electricity flowing between us, the air was thick with tension as our eyes were locked together, our bodies not moving. “Who are you?” he asked me not breaking our eye contact. I opened my mouth to introduce myself to him, but I couldn’t seem to find my voice. I was left locked with his intense electric blue gaze unable to look away or to focus on something else. “What have you done to me?” he asked me again, suddenly with a fire blazing in his eyes. I could literally see the fire inside. It was spectacular. I was entranced, lost in his gaze and the mate bond growing stronger between us from the close proximity. I never felt so hot and cold at the same time. The reaction of my body to his presence was undeniable and I wanted him. So f*****g bad, but I was confused by his question. “W-what do you mean?” I stuttered, startled as I tilted my head to the side. “You know what I mean, little wolf.” He told me, moving closely to the bars touching it, but it didn’t do anything to him. As a wizard, he was immune to silver. He wasn’t burned by it. It didn´t take the ability to shift away from him, because he simply didn´t have any. “You are my mate,” I told him softly with a little bit of pleading in my voice, and I hated that I sounded so weak in front of him, but he didn’t seem to mind my tone. His eyes went wide with the realisation of my claim as he stepped back and shook his head. “That is not possible,” he said not looking at me as he spun around so his back was now facing me. “What?” I shouted, “why would you say that?” I demanded, my heart breaking from his words. Maya was howling sorrowfully. “Because someone like me cannot have a mate,” Elyes said as his gaze return to me and I could see the resolution and determination in them. With his electric blue eyes blazing with fire and his bright red hair tousled and sticking to the sides he looked so handsome. The scar was making him more rugged and just so sexy. “Someone like you?” I asked him, but he stayed silent. We were left standing inside the dungeon just looking at each other as my heart was pounding loudly inside my chest, the coffee and cinnamon smell I inhaled with every breath I took was making me dizzy. I wanted to open the cell and hug him, kiss him and jump his bones, but I knew I couldn’t. He was still considered an enemy to my pack and Alpha. “A monster,” he whispered at the end.
