“Will. . .”
“Go away.”
“Will. . .” I called out again and this time he looks away from his computer, his finger leaving the mousepad.
“It’s time to go home.”
“Is it?” He asked, looking around for the clock and I just hugged, pointing towards it with a pen. It was almost eleven pm. “Oh s**t, I am very sorry. I lost track of time.”
“It’s alright.”
No, it wasn’t. William has been staring at his computer screen all day and he has been at it all day. He absentmindedly ate lunch in his office today, chewing on the sandwiches slowly.
There was a semi major crises that needed to be worked on today because two, pardon my French, f*****g idiots in marketing had sold the idea the company was going to use for an advertisement.
The two of them were fired and also blacklisted by William who simply made one phone call and informed the person on the other line about the happenings.
So Will kept sifting through video ideas sent through by employees while I went through what was sent by freelancers. It’s now late and I haven’t had dinner yet. Goodness.
I stretched my hands above my head, wincing at the little cracking sounds and fighting back a yawn. I needed a raise.
“Want to get dinner with me before we go home?”
I raised a brow at him. “Alright. Can it be take away though? I want to eat in bed.”
William chuckled. “Of course.” He said as he got up from his chair, grabbing his jacket before making his way towards the door. I kept up to pace with him as we made our way towards the elevator.
We take the elevator down to the underground parking and he holds open the door for me, before going over to the driver’s side.
“What are you in the mood for?” William asked as he finally pulls away from the parking slot and made his way out of the building.
“Chinese would be good. Honey sesame chicken with some rice would really hit the spot right now.”
“I’ll get the lo mein noodles and sesame chicken.”
“At least we know what we want to eat.” I said, finally letting out my yawn. Lavender had texted to ask where I was and if I was on my way home. So I quickly typed out a response.
“Is that your girlfriend?”
“Huh?”
“The person you’re always talking to on the phone. Is it your girlfriend?” William asked and I stared at him with wide eyes.
“What?”
“Never mind.”
I snapped back to attention and stuck out my tongue in mock disgust. “Ew. Lavender is my best friend. We’re practically siblings.” I said, scrunching up my nose.
William looked at me quickly, like he wanted to actually see my reaction. To know if I was telling the truth or not. I had promised myself not to overthink questions or actions from William but this one was a loud one.
Why was he asking? Was he interested in me? Was he interested with Lavender? No, that can’t be right. I’m pretty sure he hasn’t met her yet. Maybe this was just a normal conversation and I’m projecting my feelings onto it.
“I’m as single as a lone Pringle.”
William huffed out a laugh. “I am too.”
“What?” I asked, my eyes wide again. “How is that possible?”
“Why can’t it be?”
“You’re like the most handsome man I have ever met. Everything about you is attractive, even your voice and grumpy attitude.”
The car falls silent and I could not f*****g believe the words that had just come out of my mouth. The car pulls to a stop at red light and I prayed to any deity to just let me disappear or maybe go back in time to prevent myself from just blurting out the first thing on my mind. I kept staring out the window by my side but I could feel William looking at me.
He doesn’t say anything and instead continues driving. A couple minutes later, he pulls to a stop in front of a Chinese restaurant.
“Do you want to come in with me or should I go and place our order?” He asked.
“Can i wait for you in the car?”
“Sure.”
William got out of the car, grabbing his wallet on the way. In the silence of the car, I let out a loud groan. Contemplating hitting my head against the dashboard, maybe it would knock some sense into me.
I pulled out my phone and texted Lavender.
I just told William he’s the most handsome person I know and that his voice is also attractive.
Lavender’s response was immediate.
??
you fall in love with a man and you suddenly become a poet.
Me: there was nothing poetic about what I said. Oh god, he must know now. He probably knows how I feel about him now.
Lavender: calm downn. He might not know. Boys are quite oblivious sometimes and even if he does, all you have to do now is wait to see if you’ll be rejected or asked out on a date.
Yeah. That’s probably not what’s going to happen. I do not have such good luck when it comes to things like this. I have been cheated on several times, lied to, played with, led on. So I was not waiting for a miracle.
Me: it’s never going to happen, Lavvy
I ended up waiting for an additional twenty minutes before William walked out of the restaurant with two large white bags. He probably added some more things to my order.
He hands me my order with a small smile on his face. I wonder what was going through his mind? Was I going to get laughed at? Or fired? f**k.
William doesn’t say anything but he does ask me for my address and drives me home.
“Thank you.” I said as I got down from the car, my bag of food in my hand.
“Any time.” William replied, with a small wave. I quickly walked into my building, heading right for my apartment.
Immediately I got into my home, I went right to the couch, placing the food on the table and flipping face first onto the couch.
I don’t remember how much time I spent there until my phone vibrated on my pocket. I pulled it out, tilting my head to the side so I could use an eye to peek at my phone, my heart skipping a beat when I see the message.
Will: see you tomorrow, Dev
