Will doesn’t bring it up at work.
He pretends like it never happened and I am honestly having mixed feelings about it. Were my words to easy to discard? Do I just seem like a really playful person to him, never to be taken seriously?
I don’t know.
Will does not go back to his usual grumpy face and stoic expressions, I could still coax a laugh out of him by just being myself. Like to other day while I spinning around on my swivel chair, I tipped too much and ended up falling just in time as the elevator doors part and Will see me.
He doesn’t laugh at first and instead rushed forward to help me up and once I was seated again, he starts laughing. The meanie.
For lunch, we go out to eat majority of the time and if we were busy and swamped with work, we end up eating or even going as far as to order from the cafeteria. How did I forget we had a cafeteria?
Today had started out well, smiles all around until 11:30 when the elevator dings and the doors open. Out of it walked a tall, red haired woman dressed in a tight black dress that stopped mid thigh and a blazer the same length of the dress. Her hair was flowing down her back, dangling earring.
“Where is he?”
“God?”
The woman squints her eyes at me and I just stared her down. William doesn’t have an appoint with anyone anymore until after lunch and this lady was just plain rude.
“What are you? Are you new? Who do you think you are to talk to me that way?”
“I’m Mr. Carson’s personal assistant.”
“So. . .his secretary?”
I smiled tightly at her. “How may I help you?”
“I want to see him.”
“And what is your name? I have to check if you have an appointment with the boss and see if he’s available.”
“Amanda Deville.”
With her character and the fact that she has the last name of a villain, it doesn’t really bode well for her. I made a show of checking William’s schedule.
“I’m sorry, you do not have an appointment. I can put you in for next week at 10 am, if that is alright with you?”
The woman rolled her eyes at me and sped towards William’s door before I could so much as react, pushing it open and walking in.
“You can’t do that.” I said as I hurried after her. “I’m sorry, Mr. Carson, she just barged know.”
William raised an eyebrow at her before looking over at me, raising his hand. I held back the next onslaught of words as I waited for his response.
“Amanda.”
“You weren’t picking my calls.” She said as she walks over to William and pressed a kiss to his cheek. I frowned at that.
William told me he was single.
Had he been lying?
Were they together?
It kinda makes sense. Grumpy attitude, nasty attitude. A match made in heaven.
“Boy, get me coffee.”
I mentally rolled my eyes at her before looking at William.
“Can you get us two cups of tea, Dev?”
With a nod, I quickly made my way out of the office and towards the kitchen. I quickly made the cups of tea, placed them on a small wooden tray and went back to William’s office.
I knocked, pushing the door open when I hear come in. Who was this woman exactly? Was she an ex? Why was she glaring at me like her sacrificed her children or something?
I made sure to not spill anything as I gently placed the beverages on the table.
“Would that be all?”
“Yes, thank you.”
I made my way over to the door and has just grabbed the handle when I heard Amanda speak.
“That’s the first time I’ve ever heard you tel someone thank you.” She said and I smiled smugly to myself as I made my way out of the office.
I went back to my position and wondered if I was going to eat lunch myself or if I should wait for William? Maybe I would get an excuse or just order in, just in case.
It would be really sad to miss lunch with William today. He was in such a good mood and I would have been able to get away with asking some questions. Like what his favorite song at the moment? The one movie that always makes him sad or cry.
Gah!
I nearly leapt out of my chair when I heard William yell. Should I go in? What if he was in danger? It hadn’t been a painful yell but a very angry one. He sounded like a lion, when they roar. Scary. Ohh, I wonder what Amanda had said.
The door to William’s office opened and out walks Amanda, her nose raised and I resist the urge to laugh. It was an uncomfortable situation and I laugh in uncomfortably situations.
“I don’t like you.”
“I don’t like me either.” I replied. “Would you like to schedule another meeting?”
“I don’t need a meeting to see him.”
“Is next Wednesday fine with you?” I asked as I tapped the space bar, waking up my desktop screen.
“After lunch.” Was all she said as she made her way to the elevator. She tapped on the arrow button and when the doors part, she turned to me.
“You’re snarky and I know people like you. You think you’ll last but William. . . William always gets bored and he’ll play with you. Say the right things. “ she tilts her head to the side. “I hope you’re strong enough to survive this oncoming heartbreak.” She said and I just. . .stared at her.
She stepped into the elevator and once the doors were closed I let out a sigh. Not thinking too much on her words because they might just be vengeful, I made my way to William, knocking twice before walking in.
“Are you okay?” I asked.
William was facing the window, hands in his pocket. He turns to me and smiles.
“Perfect. It’s time for lunch.” He said, grabbing his jacket and wallet and I just blinked at him. What? I thought he was mad at something?
I wondered what happened between him and Amanda.
