Chap.4*Anything To Keep My Crush Safe*

1246 Words
"Did something happen with Kai?" the confusion in my mother's voice didn't come off as a surprise, everybody knew about Kai and me. The issue wasn't our friendship, the main problem was that lately, we have been arguing a lot. "No! It's nothing." I lied and tucked the hair behind my ear. "Uncle Paul will be here soon, he said he couldn't mail you your 19th birthday gift so he wants to personally hand over the gift to you," Mom yelled while walking upstairs to take out the laundry. "Oh goodness!" I rolled my eyes at I don't know why she decided to do all the chores when I planned to stay at home. Uncle Paul was my father's friend, someone I never liked. When my father one day just randomly left me and my mother in the middle of the night, uncle Paul's interference in our lives grew bigger. Shaking my head from the useless thoughts, I watched my phone's screen to see if Kai had messaged me. He did not! "i***t!" I pouted and began to type a message very aggressively. Me: So, you are not even gonna ask me why I skipped school today? Before sending the message I asked myself, do I sound desperate? Or perhaps, Clingy? Erasing it all, I let out a tiring sigh before my phone beeped itself. The caller ID excited me into smiling like a silly person at my phone. Kai Rascal: Are you okay? Although it was not much, but a smile still plastered across my lips. Me: It's 9:00 am, thankfully you remembered that I've missed school. Yes! I was bitter because we spent every single second together, how the hell did he not message me when I didn't go to school with him. Kai Rascal: There is something weird going on. They are cutting the wifi connection here in school, can you please check quickly what is going on? I frowned upon his message and tilted my face. Usually, I would ask my mother what to do and what does certain things mean, but she was upstairs doing laundry and listening to the radio probably. Me: What do you mean? I waited for 5 minutes and when he never got back to me, I saw my mother coming downstairs with a laundry bin in her hand. "The radio went out all of a sudden, I was listening to my favorite show and then they started screaming and it just cut off," She complained, taking the clothes outside to draw them on the rope. "That's weird!" I got up from the side of the window, mending the red check long shirt I was wearing over a white tank top. That was the attire I was known for, a tank top with a long unbuttoned shirt on. I tracked to the out to talk to my mom about the text Kai had sent me and that's when shi* began to turn weird. "LOCK THE DOOOOOR!" I wasn't even near the door when the loudest screams penetrated my eardrums. A few hours later: The weather had turned even worse now. The loudest screams that had once engulfed the neighborhood had somehow subsided. I had been on my foot for the past 3 hours to my high school. I was offered a ride to the safest place by my neighbors but I couldn't leave behind the ones I care about. Kai Pascal! I had a baseball bat in my hand, one of my father's pride possessions. I might be the very first few to know what happened to us, what was chewing upon my beloved Town Derton. "Zombies!" I muttered under my breath. "I'm coming to save you Kai," I whispered when I was finally standing in front of my High school. The accidents and the fires around me, the weird silence after the passing of the thunderstorm, it felt like a doomsday. I crossed the main ground and reached the gate, it was busted open. My heart missed a beat when I saw a few corpses, partially eaten by the zombies on my way in. "Please be safe, Kai!" I mouthed to myself, my eyes scanning around in alarm and fright. Thankfully, so far I hadn't spotted any zombie but the way the entire school was upside down, I could tell Zombies had invaded it. Once I reached the science department, which was on the 3rd floor, I heard some noises coming from one of the locked hall. "Kai?" I instantly ran and stopped in front of the door, voicing for him and waiting for his response. I will die if anything had happened to him and then I heard the voice. "Vivienne?" That was Kai's voice. A hope fluttered through my entire existence and I smiled like a silly. "Yes! Oh My God! You are okay?" I placed my palm on the door and inquired happily, waiting for the door to be open. He didn't respond, but I heard some commotion going on inside. "Kai? Is everything okay?" My heart was jumping up and down in my chest. And then suddenly the door flew open to reveal our science teacher and the jock, Caz Lane, from Kai's rival team. "Get inside quick," The teacher was holding a knife while Caz had a handle of a chair in his possession. I agreed to what they said and soon they had locked the door again. "Vivi!" the familiar voice who had given me enough courage to walk my way all the way to save him fall upon my eardrums. I turned around to be welcomed by Kai, who rushed my way and wrapped his arms around me. "Wait! How do we know she is not infected?" Caz, always being a selfish dou*hbag, raised a question, making Kai to break the hug and glare at him. "She is not. Don't you remember, whoever got infected had a high fever instantly?" Kai responded very aggressively. "We don't have time to fight, just stay silent for a few minutes till they think nobody is here." the teacher, Mr. Mitch shook his head and ordered us all to calm down and stay quiet. I was able to look around and see the scared and frightened faces. There were a lot of teachers and students but not enough to say the whole school survived. "Come here," Kai held my hand and took me to one corner, I could see the happiness in his eyes. He cupped my face in his hands to probably ask me how I came to the school when someone intervened. "Kai!" The soft and gentle Whisper made him drop his hands from my face and turn around to the fragile Irene. Irene Griffen, a transfer student who had joined two months ago, and almost made the entire school fell madly in love with her fragile and gentle appearance, was standing behind my friend, calling his name. "Irene, you okay?" Kai quickly ignored me and turned to her. She batted her eyelashes in fear and hugged herself, she looked shaken up. This is pretty much what I was dealing with ever since she had come to our school. Kai was always looking for ways to speak to her, to have a glimpse of his crush, Irene, while I would constantly try to get his attention, the attention of my friend who was also my crush. Now we were in the apocalypse, and who was whose priority was the basic issue.
