#3 The Party

2190 Words
"You must come to the party," Alex shouted as he waved his hand towards us. Alex is a blood witch and Mason's best friend. His family was freaking rich. Anemone waved back, putting all her energy. She had a fuller smile. If Mason had not have held her hands, she would jump now! Mason looked at her, amazed. "You seem pretty excited. Alex has already left." Mason chuckled. "Sorry. But I am. It is the first party someone invited me to over here. Alex is so nice." Anemone looked at Mason with her sparkly eyes, filled with excitement and energy. Mason only chuckled as an answer as they walked towards the bike. He was glad Poppy left them alone after a few days. It was awkward meeting her judging eyes. But once Poppy felt convinced that her friend was in safe company, she disappeared! "Did you do your homework?" Anemone asked, catching up to his speed. "Teacher's no. Yours yes." He smirked. "You should complete everything. Here, take it and submit it." Anemone handed him over the homework she has done for Mason. She had gone the extra length to find out all the papers that he had failed to submit and finished them for him. Mason looked over the pile of papers. She completed every homework ever assigned to him. "You did them? How did you find it? We are not even in the same class." Mason huffed. He was speechless. No one has done that for him ever. Maybe Anemone interfered in his matters to find out where he was lagging, but it only made him feel warm. Had it been someone else, he would have gotten angry. But after knowing Anemone, Mason knew she is not capable of any evil. "Alex helped. It's a shame we don't share even a class when Fenris and I have two in common. I share three classes with Olivia. With you, I have none. If you were there in my class, I am definite I would not have got that crush over Fenris." Anemone's eyes popped out as she explained her feelings. Anemone wanted to share a few classes with Mason. They did not even share the same lunch hour. It was awkward that the school split the students into two sections with separate lunch hours. All the crazy ones were there with her, like Olivia, Fenris, and the football team, while the nicer ones like Mason and Alex had an entirely different routine. She felt dispirited and scoffed. "Anemone, I, too, wish that we had some classes together. But not having one makes our extra classes even more special. I look forward to it the whole day." Mason tried to uplift her mood. Anemone was an open book. She could barely keep her emotions in check. What she felt reflected on her pretty face. He knew he should not have said that, but he honestly could not see her sad, gloomy eyes. Anemone's eyes beamed with joy. She could feel her heart flutter. Her enthusiasm was over the top as she jumped to cover the distance between Mason and her. She hugged Mason, surprising him. It was a first, but it was unexpected. Before Mason could react, Anemone had already pulled away, hopping towards the bike. How silly could she get? But it was this madness that was making him crazy for her! Mason kick start the motorbike, and the engine roared. Anemone climbed onto the pillion, her big smile never leaving her face. She put her hands on Mason's shoulder before he drove to drop Anemone. "Can you drop me over Poppy's? I need to go shopping. And can I bring Poppy with me? I forgot to ask Alex." Anemone had too many questions to seek, but she only asked the most important ones. "I am sure Alex has invited her too. If not, you can bring her. I will talk to Alex." Mason was not keen to see Poppy. Despite that, Mason drove Anemone to her house. Anemone had a rough time while saying her goodbyes to Mason. They met almost every day at school unless Mason had a match day. This time, she was going to see him on the weekend too, on Alex's part. But it was still hard for her. "Mason..." Anemone blurted. She was too overwhelmed. She only realized she was speaking aloud when she heard Mason reply. With each passing day, her feelings for him only grew. "Is something wrong?" He asked. "No. I will see you tomorrow." Anemone smiled. It did not reach her eyes. So Mason knew something was bothering her. But he did not ask her why. "Anemone, will you wear your hair down tomorrow? I mean, not that you don't look good this way..." Mason had not even completed her sentence when Anemone kissed his cheek suddenly. She did things like that all the time, surprising him. But he was getting used to it. Honestly, he loved them. "What was that for?" Mason inquired, startled. "Thanks for coming there that day! I see now how dumb I was. The dumb Fae." She giggled. Mason did not feel the need to correct her. She was dumb for having those feelings for Fenris. He smirked and drove away, leaving a smiling Anemone. -- The next evening, Poppy picked up Anemone to Alex's party. She was nervous and scared. She had never been around so many people, and she was sure all popular kids would be there that night. "Before this, few knew about you tutoring to Mason. So, a lot of them might not like you there." Poppy warned Anemone one last time. Poppy was not very curious to come to the party, unlike Anemone, who invested a lot of time selecting her rainbow-colored tutu dress last night in shopping and today to get ready. But Poppy honestly could not let her best friend walk into this alone. So here they both stood in front of Alex's door, discussing if they should walk inside. But before they could walk away or decide to get inside, the door creaked open, and in front of them stood Olivia. She looked gorgeous. Her olive skin glistened as the cherry-red-colored fit and flare dress made her look like a queen bee. Not that she wasn't that already. Olivia dressed her hair down in soft curls that suited her round face well. "Look who we have, here!" She spoke loud enough for everyone to notice at the door. Poppy rolled her eyes, giving an "I-Said-You" look to Anemone. Anemone swallowed hard, trying to look normal. She has the invitation like everyone else. But before anyone else would have said anything, Alex came to their rescue. "You look different, in a good way. Come inside. You are late!" Alex side-hugged Anemone and smiled at Poppy in a manner that made it look like they were close. Olivia puffed and went inside, disappearing into the crowd. Poppy was sure Olivia ran to her clique to tell what she saw and come up with some twisted plan. Poppy looked at Anemone, who did not have a slight hint of any anger or suspicion. She kept looking over the figures, searching for Mason. "Are you now crushing over the human boy?" Poppy had to ask it. Poppy knew her friend well, but he wanted to understand the seriousness of the situation. She might need to protect her from another heartbreak. Anemone blushed as her cheeks reddened at that. She did not have a crush on Mason. Anemone, in her heart, believed Mason is the one for her. "Ane, I warn you to control your -" But before Poppy could complete her sentence, Anemone strode towards Mason. She rolled her eyes again and walked towards the juice counter. Well, Faeries can't drink alcohol. What a shame! She thought. "You wore your hair down." Mason smiled, which made him look even more gorgeous. He was wearing a black shirt and dark blue jeans. It was not anything fancy like everyone was wearing, but one can tell he was the most handsome one at that party. Mason could feel a lot of questioning and prying eyes on them. He ignored it when he saw how oblivious Anemone was to these scheming and race. She was pure and innocent. "You asked me, didn't you," Anemone smiled back. She wanted to tell how handsome he looked, or how she felt, or maybe how she would do anything he asked her to do. But she followed him silently when he pulled her into the crowd towards somewhere. Mason took her to the counter that had drinks and food for the party. He picked up a cold beer and looked at Anemone to pick something. She kept staring at the cans, unsure what to choose. Where was Poppy now? She knows all these things better than her. Anemone flustered and looked for Poppy, scolding herself internally to have left Poppy the minute Anemone saw Mason. But her eyes grew wide when she saw Poppy with some guy on the dance floor. She looked happy and was enjoying herself. "At least, someone got lucky." Mason chuckled. He offered her the same beer he was drinking. "I can't drink that. We Faeries get drunk, even from one sip. And also it affects our health later, badly." Anemone said, ignoring the beer can and looking for some juice. "Then I am afraid that anything over here is without alcohol. So drink nothing that isn't water." Mason emphasized. He wanted to see a drunk Anemone, but that was not today. "Mason, what are you doing this color palette?" Olivia mocked Anemone but looked sweetly at Mason, blinking her eyes too many times. "Olivia, not now." Mason scoffed. "But you promised me you would talk to me today. We will resolve our differences." Olivia looked at him with puppy eyes and pleaded. It confused Anemone, but she kept quiet. "I said I would talk. It's not today." Mason snapped as he moved his hand over his hair a few times. One could tell he was tensed and irritated. "Because of her?" Olivia gave a disdainful look at Anemone before continuing her friendly act. When she was looking at Mason, she had tears in them. When Mason did not reply, she stomped her foot and ran away crying. Mason scoffed and sighed, trying to relax. What was he thinking when he took Olivia on that date? "She is hurt. You should talk to her." Anemone said, making Mason even angrier. Anemone was stupid not to see Olivia through her acts. Everyone standing around them was judging Anemone. The moment he leaves, they might end up bullying her. But she was blind to that. She was thinking about someone as vicious as Olivia. Was she even real? And that is the reason he did not want to pull her into his life! It is messy! She was pure of heart and not meant for this cruel world. "You will go, or I shall? It seems I have hurt her too. Did I do something?" Anemone brooded. She was worried. "No, you did nothing. It is Olivia. You go to Poppy and stay away from everyone. I will be back in a second." Mason insinuated. "I am not a baby. I can handle myself. Talk to her, or else I will go." Anemone ordered. She put her hands on her waist and tried hard to look intimidating but ended up looking cute with that fake pout. He sighed, defeated, and rushed to talk to Olivia. He needed to ensure that she does nothing like that ever again. She has to end spreading rumors about them. They were never even together except for that first date. It took him only a few moments to see Olivia's honest side. The cunning and manipulative one behind the sugar-coated outer appearance. And that's what he wanted to talk to her. To warn her not to spread false things about them. She had outdone herself this time by hurting Anemone right in front of him. And this Fae was ignoring all of that! But now that there was no one to protect poor Anemone, Olivia's minions were already there waiting to pull her down. "Look what a slut she is! God knows what she did to break them." Someone from the crowd said loud enough for everyone to hear. "Who knew an innocent-looking Fae could get that dirty! Poor Olivia." Another chided. "I knew she was a w***e. First Fenris and then Mason." This time it was a boy's voice. "All she wants is a dick." Another mocked. "You want me, slut?" A boy looked into her eyes and ridiculed her. Anemone's eyes blurred as tears evaded them. She was not sure what she has done to get so belittled. More and more voices emerged as people started calling her several names. Poppy, who had come to her rescue, tried to shout down. But what can a single Fae do? She burst down into tears and ran away from the party as more and more voices trampled over her innocence.
