"I already knew that. You are worse." Anemone sobbed.
Why was it so hard to control her emotions, unlike others? She felt everything strongly. Everything emotion heightened for her. She didn't want to cry in front of a stranger, a hot one at that. But there was no way she could control what she was feeling. They are like that. It was not her fault.
"Anemone, you are dumb to approach that jackass. Do you even know how crazy he is? Or you are just into pretty boys?" Mason vented.
Anemone looked at him with a weird expression. Fenris seemed to be a nice boy, until today. He never made fun of her. He even helped her once. He is the soccer captain. Why would the school keep a bad boy as captain? In her old school, mean ones never became leaders.
"But crazy ones can't be captain!" Anemone looked with disbelief.
"And that's why I think you are dumb, Anemone. Not because of your hair. I think they are cool." Mason smiled to prove a point. But she gave a puzzling look.
Mason sighed. This fairy was far more innocent than he had presumed. No wonder they made her cry, and she still can't see his mistake. They are too sincere, and that was their problem.
"Anemone, this is a public school where you can find every species. Sometimes I think it's a zoo. Do you know what kind of race it is to fit in here? You have to be better and mean to show your supremacy, to sustain. And you think here being good works?" Mason scoffed.
How naive was she to only see goodness in others? He, too, was invested in her affairs for his selfishness. He wanted someone to teach him enough to pass his papers.
Anemone stayed silent for a while. His words made sense. Everything here was different. People don't interact out of their cliques. There were so many groups - the nerds, the back-benchers, the geeks, the athletes, and of course, the queen bees. Then there were people like her, the outcasts.
She was dumb not to see that. How could she even think a guy like Fenris will fall for her? She has to top the hierarchy to get there. But did she want to do that for love? Probably not. He didn't deserve her if he did not like the real her.
Faeries are narcissists. But in a good way. They loved their order, the way they see through things than being judgemental. It is less complicated and harmonious. So why would anyone want to give up that and get into chaos? But also there was this urge to know more about other kinds. She needed to mix more, to discover more about them to understand them better.
"I will teach you. But will you teach me your ways and answer my any question? I am a curious one." Anemone blinked her eyes several times as hope flashed through her eyes. It was natural for her to do that, but Mason found it damn attractive.
He wondered how she would look in a dress with lesser flowers and colors, with free-flowing hairs? She had beautiful eyes, and she was not wearing heavy makeup like most of the girls.
"Fairy girl, I am not that social to teach you anything. I may warn you at times. That's the best I can do." Mason warned her.
"Bullshit. You dated Olivia." Anemone charged, surprising Mason.
"You knew me? And here I thought you were living in a separate world." Mason jeered. He never cared who knew him or not. Most of the things about him were rumors anyways. But the fact that this simple fae knew about him made him happy.
"You are popular. Most girls fancy you." Anemone replied.
"Do you?" Mason walked towards Anemone, closing their distance. He wanted to tease her a bit, see how she was reacting.
"No! I had not even seen you before. We have no classes together." Anemone squeaked. She did think he is attractive and very handsome. But it is now, not before.
"So you don't think I am pretty enough, huh? Fenris is more handsome? Ouch! My poor heart!" Mason chuckled.
Anemone was tensed up and unsure how to reply to that. She gulped down her saliva and blinked her eyes too many times. He was handsome than Fenris. And he had this charm!
"You are nice." Anemone blurted.
She had no idea why she said that or specifically what she meant. But she had a good feeling about Mason.
Mason stopped his playfulness right there. He may have exceeded his limits and played with her emotions. She was a good girl, unlike others. He should be more careful around her. He won't be able to forgive himself if he ends up breaking or messing her heart.
"I am the bad boy, Fairy girl. The worst out there." He tried to put on a sinister smirk but failed miserably. It only made him look devilishly handsome.
"I believe that. You managed to date Olivia and then dump her." Anemone giggled.
"You don't like her?" Mason asked.
"I am not sure. Olivia is beautiful with that hot body of hers, but I think her beauty is only superficial." Anemone did not feel the need to twist. Even if she wanted, she could not have. Saying truth was hard-wired into her.
Mason chuckled but did not say anything else. He nodded his head as he picked up few books he had come looking for in this section and met Anemone. The bell for the next period rang.
"Do we have a deal?" Anemone asked. She was obviously at the better end of the deal. At least she thought so. She needed to know where she stood before leaving for her next class. She can't end up missing all her class because of Fenris. She was so over of him.
"We do!" Mason smirked.
"Meet me after school near the library. We start today!" Anemone shouted as she ran through the library and out to her next class, earning a genuine smile from Mason.
The whole day Anemone tried to find Mason, but it was as if he ghosted. Poppy kept on asking about her sudden behavior change, but Anemone invested in finding information about Mason. She even tried to sit with the girls who talk about all the hot guys in her biology lab. In the end, she could not finish her assignment, and it was overdue that she has to do it in her spare time.
Poppy was not thrilled to leave Anemone back in the school with a stranger and, on top of it, the football team's captain. So Poppy decided to stay with her. They had to wait for thirty minutes before Mason showed up.
"You give group tuition?" Mason chimed. His smile was becoming addictive.
Poppy forgot all her angst as soon as she saw him. She was behaving like a fangirl.
"No. Poppy is a friend." Anemone introduced her friend, but Mason seemed uninterested. It was as if he was a bit disappointed to find company. But none of them spoke about it.
"You are late." Anemone made a face.
"I am early. I had to miss my practice. You never listened and left earlier." Mason complained.
Anemone bit her lips. She was consumed with her excitement that she did not give him a chance to speak of his plans. "Then when we start?" She regretted not asking earlier.
"After five, alternate days?" He raised his brows. It wasn't fair to ask her to wait for an extra hour only to tutor him. But he can not miss his practice. The coach was too strict to allow that to happen. Plus, he needed to practice as much as he needed to study.
Anemone and her friend discussed something in a faint voice. Mason was sure even the vampires or werewolves could not hear it. But when they finished, Anemone was smiling at him.
"I am fine with it. But can we come and watch you play?" Anemone asked.
Her big eyes were now even bigger. How can anyone say no to that? But if he agrees that mean Poppy would be there all the days? He didn't like that idea. Mason had nothing against Poppy, and he should not even care about it. But he could not help but feel irritated about the arrangements.
"Fine." Mason agreed half-heartedly.
"Okay, then we start tomorrow. I should not have rushed you. It's just that I was so excited." Anemone tried to hide some of her eagerness.
"See you later then." Poppy smiled from ear to ear. She quickly called someone and asked over the phone to pick them up.
Anemone and Mason looked at each other. Neither of them wanted to say goodbye, but there was no reason why they should not!
Not yet!
